WikiCup 2022 May newsletter

The second round of the 2022 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 115 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top seven contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 11 featured articles and the 79 good articles achieved in total by contestants.

Our top scorers in round 2 were:

  1. New York (state) Epicgenius, with 1264 points from 2 featured article, 4 good articles and 18 DYKs. Epicgenius was a finalist last year but has now withdrawn from the contest as he pursues a new career path.
  2. Christmas Island AryKun, with 1172 points from two featured articles, one good article and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews.
  3. Kingdom of Scotland Bloom6132, with 605 points from 44 in the news items and 4 DYKs.
  4. Sammi Brie, with 573 points from 8 GAs and 21 DYKs.
  5. Ealdgyth, with 567 points from 11 GAs and 34 good and featured article reviews.
  6. United States Panini!, with 549 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and several other sources.
  7. England Lee Vilenski, with 545 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and a number of reviews.

The rules for featured and good article reviews require the review to be of sufficient length; brief quick fails and very short reviews will generally not be awarded points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

What is your problem?

I am not the first person to come to your talk page to complain about this sort of issue.

You are not the arbiter of what does or does not stand in articles relating to Washington, though you certainly act as if you do hold that role. This is not your encyclopedia, it's not my encyclopedia, it's our encyclopedia. I've gotten used to making edits that improve stubs around Eastern Washington and then waiting for you to come in eliminate them to say nothing more than, effectively, "because I said so."

Next time you make a revert to an edit that I, or anyone, makes, especially those that include legitimate sources, please provide more than, "not a reliable source" when you make the change. Please, do like we do and cite your source as to why it isn't. Then, I'll listen. Otherwise, you're coming across as someone on a power trip saying because I said so. I look forward to continuing to contribute to Wikipedia and unfortunately expect to keep encountering you acting like someone on a power trip.

I'm just here to clean up sources to comply with WP:V, such as those topographic maps you've misused to the point of conducting orignal research. censusreporter.org cites its sources (literally the census bureau). This is far from the first time you've undone an edit of mine (and many others) because it didn't meet your standards. censusreporter.org is cited in many other articles. Why? Because it takes raw census data and makes it public through visualizations. It's not original research to cite a source that cites a direct source. You have two options here, one is to keep things as they were in 2013, and the other is to use real census data from 2020. Which serves the readers of a given article better? Pickleball article

You recently removed bolding for three individuals mentioned in the Pickleball article in the History section. The reason the three individuals were bolded is because none of them warrant their own article, but they do each have a redirect to the Pickleball#History section. @OvertAnalyzer: While bolding a redirect is allowed, it's generally only used for when the redirected term/subject has their own standalone section in the article. The three bolded individuals would not be notable enough to have their own article and having overcoverage in the parent Pickleball article would be unnecessary cruft. Want any aerial photos of Seattle places or Olympic National Park area?

Hiya SounderBruce! I'm heading out to the Seattle Area, as well as Olympic National Park. A lot of my amateur photography is on my good ol' DJI Mini 2, and I was wondering if you wanted any places in the Seattle area aerially photographed? I can't legally fly in the national park, but I'm heading to areas such as Forks, Washington and Port Angeles, Washington, which are outside of the NP boundaries, so I can legally fly there. Here's my current list for Seattle: Climate Pledge Arena, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Amazon Spheres, T-Mobile Park, Lumen Field, and a random view of the Port of Seattle. Port Angeles has some weird DJI drone restrictions that make it almost impossible to fly in, so I'm not sure about there. Finally, I have nothing to get a photo of in Forks other than a aerial view of downtown. If you have anyplace in specific you want photographed, just reply! @Sea Cow: I've been thinking about acquiring a drone of my own, so I have a list of places that would fit the bill:
  • Either of the floating bridges, especially the west side of the SR 520 bridge over the arboretum (where there's a new approach under construction) and the center of the I-90 bridge (where there's light rail construction)
  • The West Seattle Bridge, which is currently under reconstruction for emergency repairs. Fairly close to the Port.
  • Colman Dock, the city's main ferry terminal that is also under reconstruction and close to the Port.
If you're able to get out to the Eastside, there's a few interesting spots I think would be worth the time:
As for Seqium, depending on the timing of your arrival you might be able to get some good shots of the lavender fields in bloom. There's also Dungeness Spit, famed for its connection to the crab of the same name, but it might be too close to the restricted zone (which is used for submarine testing). Cheers and enjoy the trip. Welp, as obvious, I'm back from the trip. Thanks for cleaning up the large amounts of issues and MOS whoopsies I had. Uploading 50 something images in the middle of the night doesn't exactly make me be on point with my editing skills. I got a lot of great photos, but my plans to the photograph Redmond and the Bridges fell through due to good ol' Pacific Northwest rainy weather. You can expect more photos and a lot of video to be uploaded over the next few days (mostly gopro stuff). Brace yourself...???? Anyways, it was a great trip and it was a beautiful area. Feedback request

Hey Bruce! Hope all is well with you. I wanted to get your feedback on a sort of beta test on a new project: Template:American transit ridership.

As you know, trying to keep the daily and annual ridership updated on most agency pages is a game of wack-a-mole. Some pages get a lot of love and are regularly updated, some may go years between updates. My thought is that putting all of that data in one central location will allow for one page to be updated, and have that trickle down to all agency pages at one times.

So... I've added my proposed changes to the Seattle Streetcar and Trolleybuses in Seattle pages because they provide a good idea of the functionality I am trying to include.

SounderBruce, it's been another four weeks, and this and the other nominations haven't been edited (though you did a quickfail recently). There is a GAN backlog drive ongoing, and an excellent chance that Talk:Letchworth/GA1 would be taken up pretty quickly since it's been over 90 days since the review was opened (and therefore worth 1.5 points to a participant), and reasonable chances for Talk:K-101 (Kansas highway)/GA1 and Talk:Morristown, Tennessee/GA1. I hope you'll consider releasing one or more of these to other reviewers; for Letchworth, the nominator has been waiting since May 1 for a response. Many thanks. Black Diamond - Master Planned Development Section Deletion

The updates made to the Black Diamond, WA page outlining the signification of the First Master Planned Development on the City of Black Diamond were removed on the grounds of:

  • Try to cut down on information about specific developments unless they are covered by major regional news sources.
  • Far too much detail on development and far too many subsections.


I agree history should be neutral, non-bias, fact driven, with factual sources referenced.

Question: Given the below (impact of the Master Planned Development; structure and content used by other cities pages), how do we outline the significance of how the First Master Planned Development has and is reshaping the City of Black Diamond, within the city of Black Diamonds wiki page?

How the First Master Planned Development Is Neutral And Black Diamond's Rebirth

In the late 1800, the City of Black Diamond was originally named due to the coal (black diamonds) the locals mined for a living.

In the mid 1900's, coal mining died off, with the dying off of coal mining, so did the lively hoods, and the future of the City of Black Diamond.

Fast forward to 1990, in 1990 a new Black Diamond City Planner had an opportunity to create something that had never been created before in the state of WA, that being a Master Planned Development (source).

The significance of the first Master Planned Development for the City of Black Diamond has been covered by major news sources such as KUOW (source), Seattle Times (source), and many others.

The First Master Planned Development and has gone on public record to be the largest Master Planned Development in all of King County (the same county Seattle is in)(source).

Due to the sheer size (156 acres; largest Master Planned Development in King County) the Master Planned Development is not only part of Black Diamonds history, it is literally reshaping the city and everything around it; more over, what is odd is most people are not aware this reshaping is part of a master planning going all the back to 1996.

Just like the or coal mining, or the depression, the implementation of a Master Planed Development has and is reshaping the City of Black Diamond into something historically and significantly different -- all by design.

As for the rest, please try to keep to summary style and not dive too deep into the details, as they aren't interesting to readers and are not under the scope of a general encyclopedia. Part of what is historic about Black Diamond, is the establishment and birth of a concept called "Master Planned Development".
There is an assumption made that the "Master Planned Development" does not address all aspects of the city -- of which the Master Planned Development does (impacts all aspect of the city); which is in part why the concept is historic, informative and information residents within the City of Black Diamond are very much interested in understanding more about -- especially newer residents to Black Diamond, and/or those looking to relocate to Black Diamond.
This Master Planned Development concept is in no way affiliated with a single neighborhood, or commercial organization -- which is part of the point of the Master Planned Development.
A "Master Planned Development" is not something you buy or sell. It is a thing that has a legal definition and is being used by the City of Black Diamond to rebuild itself into something new.
In sticking the the non-bias theme is why I created a "Master Planned Developments (MPD)" section to enabling the house of any other MPD the City of Black Diamond may choice to create in the future.
I am on trying to be obstinate here. What I am trying to do is help to inform people of historic information that has shaped, and is reshaping the City of Black Diamond.

I hope I didn't break any rules when I added the info, I just thought that it would be interesting to note it on the wiki page with how popular Homestuck is/was and that the address John lived in was actually real and findable on Google Maps. @Anethea: All lists of people living in X city must be backed up with a reliable source, of which none was provided. For a fictional character, it needs to be a significant plot point or setting that warrants real-world coverage in a secondary source, not a passing mention that can be brushed off. WikiCup 2022 July newsletter

The third round of the 2022 WikiCup has now come to an end. Each of the sixteen contestants who made it into the fourth round had at least 180 points, which is a lower figure than last year when 294 points were needed to progress to round 4. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

  • Zulu (International Code of Signals) BennyOnTheLoose, with 746 points, a tally built both on snooker and other sports topics, and on more general subjects.
  • Kingdom of Scotland Bloom6132, with 683 points, garnered mostly from "In the news" items and related DYKs.
  • Sammi Brie, with 527, from a variety of submissions related to radio and television stations.

Between them contestants achieved 5 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 51 good articles, 149 DYK entries, 68 ITN entries, and 109 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. @迷斯拉10032号: Per WP:V, an updated link citation must be included when data is changed; if it's from the same website as the original citation, then the access-date and other parameters need to be updated. For climate data especially, it's critical to know what years are being used to represent the normals. Next time, just include the appropriate link (I'd recommend the Western Regional Climate Center over a generic NOAA webpage) and don't revert without following WP:BRD. Reason for reversion on Millennium Line station pages

Hey there, I just wanted to get some clarity on why the information I included on five of the six future Millennium Line stations was reverted. While I understand the rules surrounding WP:CRYSTALBALL, I don't think the information I included coincided with the ideas of prediction, extrapolation or speculation, since the bus connections currently exist in the exact location where the stations are being constructed. I will concede that the specificities of the bay numbers have not been determined, which is why I left a "?" for the time being. Between CRYSTALBALL and WP:OR, it is not allowed and should not be published so far in advance. Please refer to other GAs/FAs about future services and stations for best practices, such as describing expected services in prose instead of something as authoritative-looking as a table. WikiCup 2022 September newsletter

The fourth round of the WikiCup has now finished. 383 points were required to reach the final, and the new round has got off to a flying start with all finalists already scoring. In round 4, Bloom6132 with 939 points was the highest points-scorer, with a combination of DYKs and In the news items, followed by BennyOnTheLoose, Sammi Brie and Lee Vilenski. The points of all contestants are swept away as we start afresh for the final round.

At this stage, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. What is the Problem?

Hi, Sports event article need symbol section like 1998 FIFA World Cup. Only 1998 FIFA World Cup had a symbol section. So I added a sympbol section in 1990 FIFA World Cup, 1994 FIFA World Cup, 2002 FIFA World Cup and I added reliable source from FIFA Official Website.

I don't understand that What Problem is ?

Besides, Inserting a non-free image at 2002 FIFA World Cup article is just a mistake.
