DuPont station pictures

I created a Commons category for DuPont station and added the link to the article. Not sure exactly where the future station will be wrt the existing bus station. Maybe the images I took over the weekend should be moved to something for the bus station alone? Anyway, thought you'd be interested. I have created Category:Sound Transit transit centers on Commons for the bus station, but will hold off for your input on whether this is a good idea. This seems to be a unique site in that it is a) future combined rail and bus transit center and b) wholly owned by Sound Transit, i.e. not part of another regional system such as Pierce Transit or KC Metro. Or maybe it isn't unique; is the Overlake Transit Center in the same category? ☆ Bri (talk) 18:59, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

@Bri: The rail platform should be close to the bus station, but design of the station is a few years away. Having a combined category is fine (and thanks for uploading the images), but breaking down transit centers by ownership is probably not a good idea. Sound Transit/WSDOT/local agencies often swap ownership of the facilities for various projects, and various agencies may serve the centers. The Bus stations in Washington (state) category is fine as it is, though it could be broken down by county if there's too many subcategories. Overlake is wholly owned by Sound Transit, though the land was donated by Microsoft (not sure if it's a lease or was given outright) and Metro owns its own shelters for RapidRide. Wow that is fascinating on the ownership issues. It looked to me that the DuPont station was for Sound Transit only, no Pierce or other agencies involved in the signage at least. I wonder how jurisdiction shakes out if there's a law enforcement issue, say at Federal Way transit center. ST has their own police right? Do they have the ability to make arrests on station property if it isn't actually ST property, I wonder?

The category structure on Commons is starting to look a little messy especially with so much stuff directly below Category:Transit centers in the United States. 73 categories to be exact -- that's really not good. I think DuPont is intended to be used by Pierce Transit, but the service area doesn't extend that far anymore (and it never had local bus service). ST contracts with the King County Sheriff, so I think a Federal Way situation is straightforward, but I think that law enforcement issues are left to whoever responds first. As for the commons category, I believe it might be time to start having state-level transit center subcategories, though it would overlap again with the Bus stations categories. I don't much care for your heavy-handed reverts of entire edit sessions due to your fixation on a single aspect of an edit. You seem to be in the habit of swatting flies using a baseball bat. @Hydrargyrum: Your "copy-edit" was almost entirely made of unnecessary backend work (adding a dash to the accessdate parameter changes nothing, since it isn't deprecated either way), with the only visible changes breaking consistency in the use of The Los Angeles Times and US 101 as an abbreviation. Had you instead changed all of the uses of The Los Angeles Times to your preferred format, then it would be acceptable and there would be no conflict. List of Link light rail stations

I don't want the station articles to be inconsistent, so I'll let you determine if you think they should have "see also" sections linking to List of Link light rail stations. I just saw the University of Washington station article was nominated for Featured status, so the issue might be raised there. My argument is based on this link, which says, "As a general rule, the "See also" section should not repeat links that appear in the article's body or its navigation boxes." @Gilligphantom: The bus roster that you added to the page has no direct, in-line citation. Please provide one or it must be removed. The lead section of the article is not supposed to duplicate information from the history section that has not been properly condensed into a readable summary. @SounderBruce: As for the fleet, 115-122 are not Orion VII buses, and 215-222 aren't Gilligs. It is the other way around.

The info is incorrect in the intro paragraph, it shows that Salem Area Mass Transit District changed its name to Salem Keizer Transit in 2003. This is not true, they have kept SAMTD as a formal name since their creation. Salem Keizer Transit replaced the Salem Area Transit name.

That kind of granular detail should not be included in the lead, per the policy I linked above. It's u to the history section to explain the three names in detail. SounderBruce 03:52, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

GA Review for Easton Area Public Library

SounderBruce, first let me thank you for taking on my GA nomination. It's been sitting for a long time now and I was surprised and thrilled this morning when I got your first message. I worked pretty hard tonight going over your recommendations and leaving replies on the GA list. This is my first time going through this process so I used checkmarks to help myself mark my progress and to show what is completed. There are only a couple things I did not touch and I gave my explanations why I left them that way for now. The Palmer Branch and recent news I can expand on more over the coming months/years, but I still haven't found anything worth mentioning in the Wikipedia article. I figured I'd post here to let you know I'm done for this evening and await your replies to my comments on the GA page. @Semmendinger: The backlog is indeed pretty awful right now! I will be looking over the review tomorrow, since it's getting a bit late here. I am actually planning to expand coverage of libraries in Washington state over the next year or so (and have started with articles like Sno-Isle Libraries), so this review is going to be helpful in forming my own style of library articles. Very Newbie!

Hi, Bruce, thanks for the notes you sent me. Not sure I'm doing this right, so please forgive if not--one thing I haven't done yet is posted on anyone else's Talk page. I was working on this page in collab with a fellow librarian, as we have new info about the history of Hwy 99 around Bellingham. As we poked around further, we came to realize that there's a lot about the Highway 99 whole series of pages, but especially the ones dealing with Washington, that don't seem to follow the structure that is in Calif. and Oregon. So for now I'm going to let it go, until I find out more, but one of my questions was how to hook in to other people who are working on it, so that I don't plow right through someone else's effort! So you helped a lot on that right out of the box!

@RoySmith: Typically, DYK reviews aren't placed into the approved queue until after all issues are resolved by the reviewer and given the green tick mark. After that, it will sit and wait until one of the coordinators pick the hook for a set in the preparation area. From there, it gets copyedited and looked over (and possibly pulled aside for further work) and placed in the queue that gets on the Main Page. SounderBruce 05:58, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

Project Triple Crown's

Hi there. So normally I process all the Triple Crown nominations, purely because I noticed that nobody else was doing it. In all the years I've been watching the nomination page you are the first person to nominate for a project-related Triple Crown. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around how these particular nominations work. For example, as per the criteria, how am I supposed to check whether "five or more members [of the project] qualify for a standard triple crown on the basis of editing work for that project"? Even though you need to have five qualifying members, do I only place the award on your userpage? Anyway I'm mainly just contacting you to let you know the reason I haven't processed your nomination (though I am still processing others) is because I don't know what to do with yours. So yeah, just a heads up that you'll either have to wait for someone else to process it or find someone who knows what the deal is and can explain it to me as if I'm eight-years old. :) Freikorp (talk) 12:35, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

WikiCup 2018 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. With 53 contestants qualifying, the groups for round 2 are slightly smaller than usual, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining users.

Our top scorers in round 1 were:

• Aoba47 led the field with a featured article, 8 good articles and 42 GARs, giving a total of 666 points.
• FrB.TG , a WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points, gained from a featured article and masses of bonus points.
• Ssven2, another WikiCup newcomer, was in third place with 403 points, garnered from a featured article, a featured list, a good article and twelve GARs.
• Ceranthor, Numerounovedant, Carbrera, Farang Rak Tham and Cartoon network freak all had over 200 points, but like all the other contestants, now have to start again from scratch. A good achievement was the 193 GARs performed by WikiCup contestants, comparing very favourably with the 54 GAs they achieved.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

I would advise including the archive information for any TV station, should you choose to use one of those sources. The Honolulu TV stations often seem to redesign their websites anytime they change ownership, so better to have have the web.archive.org as a permanent source for them or any other source that you think is likely to go away. If it's not already archived, you can drop the URL into web.archive.org; it will then indicate it's not archived & will offer to archive it. After it is archived, it will provide the link, then you can drop it into "Citer". to get the completed citation template. The last thing would be to change |dead-url=yes to |dead-url=no.

@GiantSnowman: I'll drop my opposition to the lede, seeing as it's used in a majority of other footballer articles (as redundant as it might be, since we rarely write about amateur players) and the piping of the club name, which is contested regularly on WT:Football. I will, however, ask that you revert your reversions to the season line (added by an IP and actually pretty useful for clarifying things) and the formatting of the reference section. For the latter, generating columns are especially helpful on wide screens (like the majority of PCs) and the article has enough citations at the moment to warrant a split into columns; as it grows, it would look unprofessional for there to be a single, narrow column of references that takes up the majority of the page's vertical space. As for the BBC match report, it was unformatted (with a bare URL) and isn't used to cite any new information not already covered by the first two sources. SounderBruce 01:20, 8 March 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for that. In the light of what you have said above, I'm likely to run it on 11 April. I'm struggling for various reasons to find a US road to run in April, and it's a category like birds and video games where we really need to schedule one per month to make any inroads on the deficit. There isn't a guarantee, of course, that it would have run in August anyway; it's not "my" month, and multiple articles may be scheduled for the same slot. Thanks for the explanation. A rough translation, especially a machine one, should preferably not be left in mainspace (it could be an unsourced BLP, a COPYVIO, or even an attack page). Take English vs German for example where due to the differences in grammar, a machine translation can easily come up with the very opposite to what was said in the original version. If such machine tanslations are found as new articles, I usually move them to draft where they will expire and be deleted CSD13 if the 'creator' does not react. WikiCup 2018 May newsletter

The second round of the 2018 WikiCup has now finished. Most contestants who advanced to the next round scored upwards of 100 points, but two with just 10 points managed to scrape through into round 3. Our top scorers in the last round were:

• Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with three featured articles
• Iazyges, with nine good articles and lots of bonus points
• Yashthepunisher, a first time contestant, with two featured lists
• SounderBruce, a finalist last year, with seventeen good topic articles
• Usernameunique, a first time contestant, with fourteen DYKs
• Muboshgu, a seasoned competitor, with three ITNs and
• Courcelles, another first time contestant, with twenty-seven GARs

So far contestants have achieved twelve featured articles between them and a splendid 124 good articles. Commendably, 326 GARs have been completed during the course of the 2018 WikiCup, so the backlog of articles awaiting GA review has been reduced as a result of contestants' activities. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met; most of the GARs are fine, but a few have been a bit skimpy.
