Hi BaduFerreira. Thank you for the Flag of Mato Grosso do Sul article. I have a quick question. The translation of the description of the flag mentions a "serene albidez of friendship among people". I couldn't figure out what albidez was supposed to mean, in Portuguese or otherwise. Albedo maybe? gobonobo + c 09:33, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Gobonobo, thank you for the heads-up! It looks like one of my sources misspelled that word and I forgot to translate it. It was supposed to say alvidez, a non-standard spelling of avidez, which I believe best translates to eagerness in the context of the phrase. BaduFerreira (talk) 12:54, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello BaduFerreira! Your additions to Draft:Uganda Muslim Supreme Council have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 14:17, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Diannaa, sorry about that. The source that I'm referencing isn't digitized so I copied the text of interest down first before paraphrasing and saved my edit since I added a lot of other material to the other sections. I usually keep these kinds of drafts and edits in my user space sandbox, but started this article in draftspace to push myself to work on it more. I'll be more careful with non-digitized sources in the future. Thank you! BaduFerreira (talk) 14:38, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't save copies of copyright material anywhere on Wikipedia, not even in sandboxes or drafts. I suggest saving such material in a Word document or Google Docs. Thanks. — Diannaa (talk) 14:40, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

February 2024 WikiProject Unreferenced articles backlog drive – award[edit]

Citation Barnstar

This award is given in recognition to BaduFerreira for collecting more than 10 points during the WikiProject Unreferenced articles's FEB24 backlog drive. Your contributions played a crucial role in sourcing 14,300 unsourced articles during the drive. Thank you so much for participating and helping to reduce the backlog! – – DreamRimmer (talk) 18:11, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @BaduFerreira, I have removed the proposed deletion tag from Cupcone, which you proposed for deletion. I objected to the PROD on the grounds that I believe that merger into the article Cupcake is a better alternative to deletion. I was able to find sources (though not many or detailed) about the "cupcone" which I believe are sufficient to establish its existence, though not its notability for its own article. You may want to review related articles ahead of proposing deletion in future, as topics that do not have notability for stand-alone articles can sometimes be merged into related pages. Of course, if you disagree with my assessment feel free to list Cupcone at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion.
Thanks!
-- Lenny Marks (talk) 22:33, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lenny, thank you for the heads-up. I understood your reasoning for deprodding the article. When I had looked up Cupcone, I didn't find anything besides text mirrored from Wikipedia which is why I proposed it for deletion. I was able to find information after looking up cupcake cone (not sure why I didn't think to look this up beforehand). Just curious though, but what sources did you find? I've been working on several food articles and unfortunately it looks like several food articles on Wikipedia are built up off of recipes hosted on random blogs or websites (which we both know are far from reliable sources). I feel slightly more comfortable citing recipes from Betty Crocker and Pillsbury baking, especially as I'm just verifying its existence, but long-term I hope to see our food articles move away from citing recipes. Cake[edit]

Just a polite question: you are not into baking or cooking?

And for your information: sources can also be used to back up facts in articles without adding to the notability. The Banner talk 15:43, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
