00:27:20, 27 September 2018 review of submission by Xkmcdonnell[edit]

I need someome to add content and documents to a story about Patrick "Burly" Bohan which is already in wiki. He is my great-great grandfather. I never met him and never knew about him until i was around 45. HE died 26 years before i was born. I have researched him and found news NYT articles about him and his saloon that are not included in the present article. I have photos of him that are from circa 1900-1905. I have death certificates for his two wives and children. I would like to provide the info to the person who created the article. Is that possible? Xavier McDonnell.

I would like to provide news stories, photos and death certificates to the wiki piece on Patrick Bohan. He was my great great grandfather. I never knew him; he died 26 years before my birth. I never even knew about huim or his saloon until i was in my 40s. I find his story interesting and i gathered info about him mainly to help my mother learn more about her family, her great grandfather. Can someone help me by accepting and publishing the info i have gathered? It will improve the article. Thanks Xavier McDonnellXkmcdonnell (talk) 00:34, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi @Xkmcdonnell: This would be very useful information for the article. Images from circa 1900-1905 are out of copyright, so you can upload them with the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard. You can also edit the article to add news sources as citations. The death certificate is not much help here on Wikipedia, they are not generally used as sources. If you have difficulty with editing and uploading you can ask for help at the Teahouse. The important thing to understand is that anyone can add to or edit the article, even you. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 17:01, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

01:51:22, 27 September 2018 review of draft by Yasserelsheshtawy[edit]

I am trying to figure out how as a Faculty member at a University and well recognised scholar can I have a page on Wikipedia? I have seen many other faculty members and scholars who have their own pages. How does that happen? Do they have other people publish the page for them? Thanks

Yasserelsheshtawy (talk) 01:51, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi @Yasserelsheshtawy: Only some faculty members have articles because there is a policy called WP:NPROF which gives a list of requirements. In general volunteers here on Wikipedia will write about anyone who qualifies without them having to do anything. Writing about yourself is discouraged, and you should read the WP:COI policy for more details on that. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 17:25, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • The article will be reviewed in due course. This may take more than two months, since drafts are reviewed in no specific order. There are 4078 pending submissions waiting for review. Please do not ask for a reviewer to tell you the status of your draft or to review it faster. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 17:20, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

03:55:00, 27 September 2018 review of draft by Nordervalk[edit]

Wikipedia has less than 20 % biographies of women. Among composers the percentage is even smaller. I do not understand why a female composer who was renowned enough to get an entry in her home country´s encyclopedia - Lithuanian Encyclopedia of Music - would be denied an entry in Wikipedia. Please advise. Nordervalk (talk) 03:55, 27 September 2018 (UTC) @nordervalk[reply]

  • It was the external links section I think that was giving reviewers a negative first impression. I have accepted the article. Be aware that the article could do with some serious copyediting. It is also hard to verify the content of a paper encyclopedia written in a language I don't know, a note on the talk page explaining what is in the sources could help avoid future problems with the article. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 17:13, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - Can someone please take a look at the above draft article to make sure it satisfies the notability requirement? Here are some sources that I used to establish the fact that this race is notable: https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/02/politics/cnn-house-key-races-august-update/index.html https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/05/nyregion/new-jersey-house-democrats-campaigns.html http://www2.philly.com/philly/news/politics/andy-kim-tom-macarthur-midterms-nj-congress-trump-20180827.html https://www.vox.com/2018/6/4/17411042/new-jersey-primary-elections-2018-house Kevssingh2020 (talk) 16:20, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • My initial thoughts are that it may be focused on too small an area. Look at the coverage for the last elections to get an idea of what sort of article has been accepted. I will leave this to someone who knows more about US elections to decide. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 17:19, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There do at least appear to be a few on individual member of congress elections, for example Virginia's 10th congressional district election, 2018. I'd ask on WP:POLITICS for advice.Naraht (talk) 18:00, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why was my draft rejected

SmirkinNYLA (talk) 19:35, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just curious as to why this was was rejected as "reading like a advertisement." It's an article that's backed by citations from Rolling Stone, LA Weekly, the UK Telegraph and the Detroit Metro Times. I've read many Wiki articles that not only read more like commercials, but are lifted wholesale from promotional materials. It seems as if this is being judged by a standard that other do not meet. What changes could be made to make this more palatable to wikipedia editors?

Thanks

21:22:51, 27 September 2018 review of draft by Malechimp[edit]

Hello there. I am having a lot of trouble understanding the specific language which is contravening the Wikipedia code of conduct for commits. The page I am trying to publish is in regards to CoinPayments, a longstanding part of the Blockchain industry (Operational as of 2013).

Preface: I see numerous blockchain related startups being approved with little history or references of credibility. An example is the company VEEM which is backed by major banks but has never operated in this space and makes numerous unsubstantiated claims in their submission. They have not even successfully conducted a transaction and claim "Veem (formerly Align Commerce) is the first global payments platform to use blockchain technology." I understand the blockchain space is rife with spammy advertisements, ICO's and other self gratifying materials but the Coinpayments submission should not fall into the same category. Unlike tech startup Veem, CoinPayments has been in operation for 5 years, were pioneers in the space and transact billions of dollars of digital assets each year.

My Question is: What do you want us to remove or add to have this draft approved? I don't want to keep adding to the submission with more and more citations just to prove the legitimacy of the company but I feel that is the only way to substantiate the notability of the platform.

Sincerely, Frustrated Male Chimp

Malechimp (talk) 21:22, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • I would suggest you remove all the citations except this one because they are unreliable. Then add five or more new reliable citations. Remove the advertorial content from the article, including the entire products section and all the promotional wording. Aim for a single paragraph. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 22:04, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 22:47:08, 27 September 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by Lildrewzy[edit]

I have been working on this new article draft and would like to have some assistance in getting it approved. Thank you.

  • There is good advice already left by reviewers on the draft. Try adding more reliable sources to the draft. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 09:06, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
