Dear Help desk:

I am in the last stages of preparing a draft article, and want to add some images. I know very little about copyright law, so would appreciate your help in determining what to do with the following:

• Images from 1912-1920 newspapers. Example: The heading of a New York newspaper column, which includes a sketch of the columnist • Family photos from a private collection, which I have verbal permission to use. • A photo from a 1963 Kansas City Star story that got picked up by the Associate Press.

That should cover every image I intend to use, for now at least.
