Changing a Picture[edit]

I work on the representation team for NBA player Royal Ivey. The photograph on his wikipedia page is not one of him, but one of teammate Kevin Durant. I am not familiar enough with coding to change this myself. Is there an administrator who can rectify such a glaring misidentification? — Preceding unsigned comment added by KRedfoot (talkcontribs) 00:13, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have switched to an older picture and posted a link to your comment at the article talk page. Is the older picture of the right person?
Since you have a close link with the team, you should read the conflict of interest guidelines before editing the team member articles; but if you are able to provide better pictures then that would be very helpful. This guideline section gives more details. -- John of Reading (talk) 09:40, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

An example article[edit]

Could someone direct me to an existing article that could be used as an example of the preferred formatting for a new article? I'm looking for an article that is relatively short, but that has the preferred format, layout, references and links, so that I can use it as a guide when creating new articles. Thanks, Quinn RAIN 00:26, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There are two articles I created, Circular prime and Börse Stuttgart. Both are rather short, but in my opinion well referenced. What could perhaps be added to both is a 'See also' section, although in those two cases I am not sure which wikilinks they should contain that are not already in the body of the article. I hope these two examples are helpful for you. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 00:34, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Another short article I created is Royal Securities Exchange of Bhutan which is also very short. There might be other examples created by other users, but these are the ones I immediately thought of. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 00:45, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There is also MissingNo., which is probably one of the shortest featured articles on Wikipedia. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 00:56, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Australian Science Fiction Writers[edit]

Wikipaedia's list of Australian science fiction authors does not include one of Australia's earliest and best known over many decades, WYNNE NOEL WHITEFORD. Wynne was an Australian-born reader of science fiction from the 1930s onwards, and an author from the 1950s, when he wrote many short stories, some published in American science fiction magazines. From the 1970s, he wrote several science fiction nevels, published first in Australia by VOID, in both hardcover and paperback and later in America, by ACE, in paperback.

Helena Binns

I guess you refer to Category:Australian science fiction writers. We call that a category and not a list. A category can only contain Wikipedia pages and there is no page about Wynne Noel Whiteford. I found a userspace draft at User:Thomas Bull/Wynne Whiteford but the user has not worked on it since January. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:05, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Users wishing to research Australian science fiction could do well to look at the special collections of the library of the University of Sydney which contains a massive Science Fiction special collection (ephemera, early prints, short run presses &tc). Why are there pornographic pictures on at least one page[edit]

In researching genital mutilation, I came across explicit photos of male and female genitalia. I do not wish to view these type of photos and was shocked to find them here. I had read an article about this happening overseas and had never heard of female mutilation. Why isn't there some sort of warning page about explicit photos? There are many of us who do not want exposure to this type of thing and also children use this site. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.17.194.70 (talk) 02:57, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes: you are 'researching genital mutilation' and you came across photographs illustrating the subject? Frankly, if you are offended by illustrations, I'd find another subject to research - it isn't the sort of subject one is likely to be able to research without being offended, or at least confronted with uncomfortable truths. As to the more general question, yes, there are many explicit images on Wikipedia - some subjects can only sensibly be discussed openly if images are available. Wikipedia isn't intended to be a 'child friendly' site. AndyTheGrump (talk) 03:09, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why the assumption that ISP language/IP represents user language?[edit]

Or in other words, why don't you let your users decide what language content gets represented in, instead of ramming a language down their throat they may not even understand? I live near a frontier and use an ISP from a country the language of which I DO NOT SPEAK. Not at all. Not even a tiny bit. I would like to contribute photos of monuments, as I have been lately taking pictures in my area, but every time I try to access the relevant information I get AUTOMATICALLY and UNASKED FOR served content in the language of my ISP. Hello? What absolute, complete nonsense is that? Why do I get to choose a language in my account, when you then decide to simply override it? Do you believe people are too bloody stupid to know which language they want to read content and texts in? And to aggravate people even worse, there are no links to choose your proper language from on that page either. It really can't get more user-unfriendly than that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Beniceer (talkcontribs) 05:24, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The content of the pages is not controlled by language settings, unfortunately. Other languages are available in the lower part of the left pane of the browser window. If this is a headache, you may want to consider virtual private network connections. Try visiting en.wikipedia.org directly instead of going to www.wikipedia.org since en.wikipedia.org always will be in english.Jasper Deng (talk) 05:27, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No they are not and I wasn't talking page contents per se, I was talking Wiki redirects. Yes, I bloody am visiting the english site right away. I know why, I speak only English! So try it here http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wiki_Lubi_Zabytki (THAT is what I get when clicking on the wiki ad on top of the pages currently) and you will grasp what I mean. There is NOTHING displayed as being available, certainly not English. As to expensively renting a VPN just so I can provide Wikipedia with costfree photos - you gotta be joking!
There may be a problem with two related pages at the Polish Wikipedia. Maybe the wiki ad goes to the wrong page from a Polish IP. The page at http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiprojekt:Wiki_Lubi_Zabytki contains links to other languages at the bottom of the left pane. The "English" link goes to Wikipedia:Wiki Loves Monuments 2011. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:06, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

POURPOURAKIS[edit]

I am thoroughly confused with the answer received to my problems here. I am not trying to shout. Unfortunately I was on a time schedule when I wrote these situations here and I had the caps on that just wrote as fast as I could to get my points across.

I don't know if Wiki can truly help me with what I need. I'd like to tell the story to someone who knows how to outline in here in Wikipedia. Actually, my other thoughts were to go ahead with my idea of a website, citing Nick Pourpourakis as the first true bouzouki musician who truly paved the way for the rest that came from Greece. When he arrived in 1950 he was probably the ONLY bouzouki musician available, and eventually the most sought after. There is a May 27, 1955 Boston Globe article where two clubs were literally fighting over him and took him to Court for contract violations, etc. At the end he was able to break whatever contract he had at one club in order to play at the other. There are articles in Greek magazines, several Boston newspaper articles.

Perhaps this should be written on a Greek wiki page if one exists, but like I said above, he paved the way here for others who were already famous in Greece. Nick Pourpourakis began his career here in the USA and is truly one of a few left from the Golden Era of Greek American music.

I am still researching and I suppose my best bet would be to write out a biography and begin a website about him.

Category:Greek bouzouki players

YOU HAVE AN AREA CALLED GREEK BOUZOUKI PLAYERS. NIKO IS A GREEK AMERICAN BOUZOUKI PLAYER AND HE'S PLAYED BOUZOUKI WITH SEVERAL OF THE PEOPLE THAT ARE IN THAT CATEGORY. I HAVE PHOTOS, MAGAZINE ARTICLES, A TELEVISION INTERVIEW AND A COPY OF A RADIO PROGRAM THAT DEDICATED TWO NIGHTS TO NICOS POURPOURAKIS.

I LISTED MY REFERENCES HERE AND THEY WERE DELETED AND THAT'S NOT FAIR.

I HAVE ALSO INTERVIEWED THE ACTUAL MUSICIAN.

POURPOURAKIS HAS WORKED WITH SOME OF THE MOST FAMOUS ENTERTAINERS FROM GREECE. HE IS CONSIDERED A LIVING LEGEND AMONG HIS PEERS AND I HAVE FEEDBACK THAT THIS WIKIPEDIA ARTICLE IS BEING USED BY PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN GREEK AMERICAN MUSICIANS.

IN FACT, THE MUSICIANS YOU HAVE LISTED IN YOUR "GREEK BOUZOUKI PLAYERS" CAME TO THE STATES AFTER POURPOURAKIS WAS ALREADY FAMOUS AND WORKED ALONG SIDE OF HIM.

I ALSO HAVE A LIST OF ALL HIS RECORDS THAT HE RECORDED IN THE 1950s HERE IN THE UNITED STATES.

NICK POURPOURAKIS HAS HIS OWN UNIQUE STYLE AND IS ONE OF THE BEST BOUZOUKI PLAYERS WHO IS STILL AROUND FROM AN ERA THAT HAS DISAPPEARED. HE IS STILL ACTIVE.

HE PRODUCED OVER 45 RECORDS HERE IN THE STATES AND MANY OF HIS VERSIONS ARE CONSIDERED BETTER THAN THE ORIGINALS.

HE WAS INTERVIEWED ON TELEVISION IN GREECE IN 2001 AND A RADIO PROGRAM DEDICATED TWO NIGHTS TO HIM.

I ACTUALLY GOT FEEDBACK FROM SEVERAL PEOPLE FROM OTHER COUNTRIES THAT WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT HIM.

DUE TO MY WORK I HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO FINISH THE ARTICLE YET AND I AM STILL RESEARCHING.

I AM ALSO HAVING SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE LAYOUT OF WIKIPEDIA SO I WOULD REALLY LIKE SOMEONE TO HELP ME WITH THAT. CAN YOU RECOMMEND ANYONE. I WANT TO UPLOAD A PHOTO AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIGURE THAT OUT.

WIKIPEDIA ALSO HAS ARTICLES ABOUT OTHER MUSICIANS IN THE SAME CATEGORY AS POURPOURAKIS, I.E. MANOLIS HIOTIS AND OTHERS AND THEIR REFERENCES AGAIN ARE ARTICLES THAT WERE WRITTEN IN GREECE.

I DON'T WANT TO NAME THE OTHER MUSICIANS BECAUSE THEY ARE PERSONAL FRIENDS OF MINE AND I DON'T WANT PROBLEMS.

THIS IS A MUSICIAN WHO CAME HERE AT AGE 15 AND IN 2 YEARS WAS A RECORD PRODUCER, ORCHESTRATOR, MUSIC DIRECTOR AND COMPOSED SEVERAL PIECES OF MUSIC THAT WERE ENJOYED BY THE IMMIGRANT GREEKS WHO CAME TO THE STATES AFTER WWII.

HE HAS MUSIC ON FACEBOOK THAT SPANS FROM THE EARLY 1950s ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE PRESENT.

PLEASE TELL ME IN LAYMENS' TERMS WHAT I NEED TO DO TO KEEP THE ARTICLE ON YOUR SITE.

Please stop SHOUTING. Have you looked at the links provided on your talk page? Is there something specific that you don't understand? - David Biddulph (talk) 08:02, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(e/c) Hi Aglaiadakis. Please note that it is a very strong feature of internet culture to view typing in all uppercase as SHOUTING! I could barely read your post because of it. The problem the article on Nicos Pourpourakis has is that it is not sourced at all, much less to reliable sources. Not only do we require that the topics of articles be the subject of substantive treatment in reliable sources, per the general notability guideline (see also the sub-guideline on people), but we require much better sourcing for articles on living persons.

If you have sources, as you say, you need to cite them in the article, not just tell us you have them. Please see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners. Attempt to add the references you have yourself to the article. Once you do so, if you have technical trouble, bring the specifics to us and we can help. I looked for where you "listed your sources but they were deleted" but did not find where that happened. Meanwhile, you have not commented at all at the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nicos Pourpourakis. You should comment there, but I think the right way is to first add sources to the article, then bring that concrete response to the deletion discussion as your basis for why the deletion rationale does not apply.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 08:13, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see User:Xgllo removed the references you added in this edit. I have undone that. It's a start, but you really need more complete sourcing, using inline citations. If you familiarize yourself with how page histories work, you could have tracked down the source of the removal and reverted it yourself.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 08:28, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DEL policy if article exists in other language.[edit]

End_Child_Sexual_Abuse_Foundation has been PRODed for no external references and no independent sources found. The chinese language version has much more content and references by the looks of it. So what's the policy on this? Notability requires only that these necessary sources have been published, not that the names of these sources have already been typed into the article. Should one check the references in that article before PRODing? Is an article in one language enough to presume the notability of the topic in the english version and remove the PROD? DS Belgium (talk) 08:21, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The problem would appear to be a lack of independent, third party references. These do not necessarily need to be in the English language. The existence of an article on another language Wikipedia does not necessarily mean that it will be kept on en-Wiki. Different wikis have different standards. Norman Lamont/Lindi St Clair[edit]

On your pages for Norman Lamont and for Lindi St Clair you state that Ms St Clair was the dominatrix lodging in Lamont's Notting Hill flat in 1991.

This was not true. The lady in question was named <redacted - ATG> - I knew her personally and visited the flat at least twice. Lindi St Clair's involvement in the London SM Sceene was over by 91, and she had nothing to do with <redacted - ATG> or Norman Lamont's flat.

American Dad episode articles are gone[edit]

I've recently noticed that all articles that talk about individual episodes of the American animated series, American Dad! are gone and every time I look up an episode, I get redirected to the articles about the show's DVDs. Why is this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.14.16.101 (talk) 12:17, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Around 50 episodes still have articles. See Category:American Dad! episodes. Many other episodes have been redirected because the article only consisted of a plot. See WP:PLOT. If an article like Four Little Words was redirected then you can find the old article by clicking "Redirected from Four Little Words" at the top of the page, then click the "View history" tab, and then a time of an old edit, for example [1]. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:37, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(e/c) There are plenty of American Dad episodes articles still existing. See List of American Dad! episodes. I imagine some, the ones you are here about, were indeed redirected. Navigate to one now and when you end up at the article on the main show through the redirect, go to the top of the page and you will see just underneath the title of the page (Redirected from NAME). Click on the name and that will bring you to the redirect page itself. Once there, click on the history tab at the top of the page and see if you can find out from the page history why it was redirected; people will often state the reason in an edit summary.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:42, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused as to why redirection is appropriate in such instances.
There's no dispute that a Wikipedia article about a television episode should contain more than a plot summary. So if one doesn't, it should be tagged and expanded. An article's redirection (i.e. elimination, as far as most users are concerned) is a good way to discourage editors from ever bothering to improve it.
In my view, such an action should occur only if an article's content is essentially unusable (e.g. extremely poor, plagiarized, etc.) or if the subject doesn't warrant a dedicated article.
Since when do we remove legitimate articles in need of work? —David Levy 12:58, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

With just a plot summary, it's not a legitimate article. Television episodes are not automatically notable; they need significant coverage in reliable sources. If that is not in evidence, then a redirect is perfectly appropriate. No information is lost; it can be restored at any time once someone finds appropriate sources. Powers T 13:02, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
1. I wrote "legitimate articles in need of work."
By "legitimate articles," I mean "articles that legitimately exist." I don't mean "articles lacking major flaws." When an article is missing important information, the usual course of action is to either add it or request that it be added.
2. I noted above that redirection is appropriate "if the subject doesn't warrant a dedicated article." I'm referring not to such an instance, but to one in which redirection is performed purely because only a plot summary has been written so far.
If an editor believes that no reliable sources have provided significant coverage, that should be noted in the redirection's edit summary. If he/she is unsure, a better solution is to tag the article and allow a reasonable amount of time for improvement (and then redirect if the problem persists).
3. I'm well aware that redirection doesn't eliminate an article's history. But as evidenced in this thread, not everyone knows this. It's likely that most users will neither realize that an article previously existed nor understand that it can be recovered and improved. —David Levy 14:33, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, then how about "we don't want otherwise-empty plot summaries hanging around giving people the idea that they're acceptable standalone articles"? Powers T 15:21, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hence my suggestion that a prominent cleanup tag be inserted for a reasonable period of time. One exists for this exact purpose. —David Levy 15:38, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think the OP's question has been answered sufficiently, any further discussion on the whys and what fors can take place in Talk:List of American Dad! episodes. Яehevkor 15:25, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The underlying issue relates to no television series in particular. —David Levy 15:38, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is more than simply removing plot-only stubs, but redirecting articles that fail to establish notability in reliable sources. —Akrabbimtalk 15:44, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As noted above, there's no dispute that a lack of significant coverage by reliable sources is a valid reason for redirection. There also is no dispute that the onus is on editors to establish notability, not the absence thereof.
My point is that users should be placed on notice via this dated template and given a reasonable amount of time to address the issue. Immediate redirection hides the problem from view and discourages/obstructs its rectification. —David Levy 15:55, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Completely agree with David here. We normally only redirect when we think that a proper article cannot be written for the topic, as an alternative to seeking deletion. Even articles on putatively valid topics that have been languishing for a long time are not normally redirected. Imagine if we did this for every one of the 87,364 article in Category:All articles to be expanded (or for that matter, the 254,261 articles in Category:All articles lacking sources). Of course no one has actually addressed here whether there are sufficient sources here to sustain an article, but that wasn't the reason provided for the redirection.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 21:59, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's my sense that we treat TV episodes a little differently than most topics, due to the tendency toward unchecked proliferation. Wikipedia:Television episodes details some specifics. Powers T 22:46, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
On the subject of "dealing with problem articles," that page advises users to "tag the article(s) with {{notability|episode}}" and links to an essay describing a review process that includes multiple notifications and lasts a week or longer (with "no deadline").
I see no valid reason not to at least insert that tag (and/or {{all plot}} in the case of an article comprising only a plot summary) and wait a reasonable amount of time for the issue to be addressed. The templates employ date display/categorization, so this isn't difficult. —David Levy 00:02, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Cite book" formatting boggle[edit]

Resolved
 – 71.234.215.133 (talk) 15:50, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

An attempt to format a ref at Beryl has confused me. The book is a series of three volumes published every year[3], yet the citation format for the section of the book reads like a magazine[4]. It simply does not look correct in the "References" section. I hope someone knowledgeable in using cite book can give it a look and tell me what I have done wrong (if anything). 71.234.215.133 (talk) 13:58, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You defined Maine as the title, while it seems the title of the book is 'Minerals yearbook 1990'. Template:Cite book contains a "Chapter" parameter, which should read Maine in this case. The title of the book would be Minerals yearbook 1990. If this book is part of a series of Minerals Yearbooks, this can be defined using the "Series" parameter. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 14:18, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, wait I think in this case you could also use Template:Cite journal. The template documentation says this one should also be used for articles in magazines and a yearbook could theoretically be regarded as an annually published magazine. So I think it partially simply depends on editor preference. Also I think as long as the source can be clearly identified it would be ok to use either of the templates. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 14:29, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I went with book over journal since it has an ISBN code. The problem is/was, it is not only a yearly publication but a three-volume collection each year. I changed Yearbook to the title, and "Maine" to the chapter. It still looks odd but it works. Thank you. 71.234.215.133 (talk) 15:50, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) It may refer to an Artificial neural network and is mentioned at the userpage of a bot at User:ClueBot NG#Artificial Neural Network. If I understand correctly, the bots algorithm for each word used on Wikipedia (such as tree, stone, house etc.) assigns a probability that the addition of the word might be vandalism. Thus as mentioned on the bots userpage this score seems to determine with which probability an added word might be the result of vandalism. All taken care of. The version with (novel) has been converted to a redirect, the dab page has been fixed per WP:MOSDAB, and I'm gonna go re-read the novel and think about how much I miss my old friend Tucker! --Orange Mike | Talk 17:08, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What's happened to the history of the film? The talk page has a post from 2008, but the history of both pages starts in August 2011. -- John of Reading (talk) 20:45, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Damn! Excellent question. That's what happens with cut-and-paste sloppiness; but any idea where the cut-and-pasted stuff came from? --Orange Mike | Talk 12:32, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Found it, at this deleted revision. Now how to fix it for proper crediting? --Orange Mike | Talk 12:35, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lost password without email configured[edit]

I cannot log into wikipedia any more (Global). Somehow, the application keep saying that my password is wrong and I cannot reset it because I've never configured an email address... Any alternative solution ?? Is there anywhere a Wikipedia Support Email or Phone ?? 190.226.26.12 (talk) User:Faturita —Preceding undated comment added 16:28, 8 September 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Unfortunately, if you have lost your password and do not have an email address set up, there is no way to recover your password. You would have to set up a new account. TNXMan 17:06, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Behbahani dialect[edit]

Behbahan is a town located in the southeast of the Khoozestan province in Iran. The dialect belongs to a subdivision of North West Iranian Languages. The article focuses on the verbal construction in general and the function, place and relation of personal endings and clitics in details. The dialect is characterized by a split system in the behavior of its personal endings and clitics due to the transitivity of verbs and the tense system. Therefore, there are two different syntactic patterns, each including verbs sharing a specific set of personal endings, clitics and independent personal pronouns. These very characteristics include Behbahani among ergative languages. The first pattern consists of intransitive verbs in both past and present, as well as transitive verbs in the present tense, whereas the second pattern deals with transitive verbs in the past only. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.182.55.24 (talk) 17:07, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PROXIES[edit]

Why do they not work? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.107.74.132 (talk) 17:13, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Open proxies may be blocked from editing on sight for security reasons. In particular, such proxies are often used abusively by vandals. --SoCalSuperEagle (talk) 17:20, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

How long does it take for a reply? 10mins, 10years or 100years? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.107.74.132 (talk) 17:25, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It takes as long as it takes, we are all volunteers. – ukexpat (talk) 17:28, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You waited 3 minutes to ask how long it takes to get a response. That is not a reasonable demand of volunteers. -- kainaw 17:30, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A sense of déjà vu, methinks. This IP looks quite a bit like 85.12.88.17 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) back in February with a shared fascination with buses and the urinary bladder, plus they are both from Luton. Oh, and there is this. Favonian (talk) 17:42, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Proper warning for removing a TFD discussion and tag[edit]

What is the proper warning for removing a TFD discussion, see here. I found one for removing an AFD tag, but none for a TFD tag. Thank you. Frietjes (talk) 17:28, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's just being disruptive. I'd inform the editor that blanking XFDs is not appropriate. Reaper Eternal (talk) 17:31, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Minor edit[edit]

Sorry, i'm not trying to spam the help desk, but when i'm editing, I cannot find the minor edit button. Where is it? I've looked everywhere! HELP! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.107.74.132 (talk) 19:23, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's a checkbox right above Save page. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:26, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You can press and hold Alt and then press the I key to mark and/or unmark a edit as minor. You may also wish to look at Wikipedia:Minor edit. LikeLakers2 (talk | Sign my guestbook!) 19:28, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict × 2) As PrimeHunter says it's located directly above the button which looks like the following: Save page. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 19:30, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, as an IP you cannot mark edits as minor (see Help:Minor edit). Sorry, didn't think of that. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 19:41, 8 September 2011 (UTC) Note to self: Read posts by other users before replying. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 19:48, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to place an edit notice from Template:Editnotice for lists of people on this article. When I did, I presumably did something wrong as it showed up at the top of the article. Now actually I am very happy with that as the article keeps getting names added which probably sholdn't be there and may be BLP violations, but it was removed with the comment "Not to be here, create an edit notice instead", which I thought I did. Question 1, what did I do incorrectly? Question 2, Wikipedia:Editnotice does say "Editnotices are displayed when editing a page, but their content can also be useful when just viewing a page so they are also displayed in these cases:" and although I don't think the cases apply I'm wondering if it's really stretching too far to have it display on the page. Thanks. Dougweller (talk) 20:22, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the template needs to be placed in List_of_Telugu_Brahmins/Editnotice. Яehevkor 20:36, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Have a look at Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Editnotice for lists of people. I think the edit notice page would be Template:Editnotices/Page/List of Telugu Brahmins. -- John of Reading (talk) 20:53, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Two Questions.[edit]

1. How do I add a category to an article? I can't seem to figure it out.

2. Why does it take so long for people to respond to talk sections?

Thanks, SailorSonic —Preceding undated comment added 23:13, 8 September 2011 (UTC).[reply]

1. To add a category add it at the bottom of the article page. As an example if you want to add the Category Living people to an article you would add, [[Category:Living people]] to the bottom of the article. You can also activate Wikipedia:HotCat on the gadgets tab of your preferences.
2. All the editors are volunteers. They respond when they have the inclination and time to do so. GB fan please review my editing 23:27, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
