Speedy deletion declined: Societal security

Hello Vivek Rai. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Societal security, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: there is content here - I doubt if it passes WP:NEO, but it is not an A3|A3. Consider PROD or AfD. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 11:37, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks!

I appreciate your work wikifying Woodland Indian and Whistling Swans. Thank you! --Jgmikulay (talk) 13:44, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the appreciation. I wonder if you would mind having offering me a hand in improving and working upon some articles. I'd be honored to have your company. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  06:59, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

June 2012

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did to Central Institute for Cotton Research. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Vivek - You have been warned numerous times about appropriate sourcing, and seem to be ignoring those warnings. Please do not add content to article mainspace that does not have significant reliable source coverage to establish notability. Details WP:RS. ConcernedVancouverite (talk) 14:36, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for watching over the content I add to Wikipedia and ensuring a better quality of the same. I think this greatly shows your sincerity and sense of pride in working for Wikipedia. I did remember your advice last time and had sources in my hand. But somehow I forgot and the article remained as it is. I must apologize for any inconvenience to you. Moved your post

Hi Vivek, i moved your comment from Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Wikify/Drives/Awards/3G to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Wikify#Award system as it is more likely to receive a response on the latter page. Cheers, benzband (talk) 11:16, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion

Please note that the speedy deletion criterion WP:CSD#A7 can be used only on an article about a real person, individual animal(s), organization or web content, so cannot apply to affordability of housing in Canada. Phil Bridger (talk) 08:03, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Paula Teixeira da Cruz

Hello Vivek Rai. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Paula Teixeira da Cruz, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: a government minister certainly passes the low bar of A7, and in fact per WP:POLITICIAN is notable. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 12:21, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Greycaps India Private Limited requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Basalisk inspect damageberate 14:55, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Central Institute for Cotton Research

Vivek, please stop recreating this article unless you can source significant reliable source coverage establishing the notability for a separate article on the topic. For now, it appears best to just add a few sentences about the institute (if you can find proper sources for such) to the main article at Indian Council of Agricultural Research. ConcernedVancouverite (talk) 13:24, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

I tried to get an honest opinion here Wikipedia:Help_desk#Seek_a_sincere_opinion. and as per directions, I have re listed the article. I would request you from my heart, not to revert the edit, rather list it for deletion. Thanks. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  07:14, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
It is not appropriate to delete it - it is material that can be merged into the main article at Indian Council of Agricultural Research, so I won't bring it to AfD as that is not where it should be. I would strongly encourage you to take the limited content that is cited to reliable sources and add it there instead. If the section there grows with substantial reliable source coverage you can then spin it off to create a separate article. In any case, I've left it as its own article for now and tagged it as potentially not notable, as I have not been able to locate significant reliable source coverage for it in my searches. As a side note, I note that some of the content you added to the article is also a copyright violation, which I have given you more details about below. That is REALLY not acceptable behaviour, and I strongly encourage you to avoid doing that as you have been warned about copyright violations numerous times in the past. ConcernedVancouverite (talk) 15:31, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

AWB

Word of advice from a long time user of AWB. On Asami Oura and other articles, do not just add a tag, especially the orphan tag. Other editors hate that and will get you blocked from using AWB. To turn off auto-tagging, uncheck the "Auto tag" box under options. Do not make trivial changes, such as just adding an auto-tag, fixing spacing and other minor cosmetic features.

AWB has a bad reputation from past editors misusing it. Get on the bad side of an AWB hater and you can end up being banned from AWB. Treat it carefully. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Bgwhite (talk) 06:28, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

I would add that the article that you tagged in not an orphan, as it has two valid incoming links, whereas an orphan is defined as an article with no incoming links. You are responsible for checking the accuracy of any edits that you make whether you make them completely manually or with the assistance of a script. Phil Bridger (talk) 07:04, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! I thought too when I used it for first yesterday. I checked the article and found that indeed it has Wikilinks. But then, I was taken over by perception that AWB is a very popular tool, and generally does good. I shall take best care in future. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  07:09, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
Hmmm, Phil, the definition of Orphan edia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AOrphan&diff=454996043&oldid=454935766 changed on October 2011 to go from three or fewer links to zero links. I wonder if AWB was updated to include that. I checked on Vivek's edits and he is using the latest AWB. I'll report that as an AWB bug.
Rules keep changing around so when you learn one another one you already learned was changed. Bgwhite (talk) 07:43, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks everyone for taking attention to provide me with necessary information. Apart from the tagging issue, Should I try not to fix the spaces, punctuations and other minor problems (As suggested by the first post)? I have tagged my edits as minor edit and I try my best to assume a faith that they ought not create any problems for the original contributor. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  07:55, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

All I can say is it depends. Tagging as a minor edit is definitely the right thing to do. If any of the minor edits do not change what appears to the user, then don't do it. For example, changing spacing between words. People also put stub or interwiki templates in the wrong spot. "Most" of the time this is just ok as it appears the same to the user even if it is in the wrong spot. Misspelled words and punctuation problems are usually ok to change. There are special categories for some punctuation problems that bots fix. If a bot will end up fixing it, you might as well too. Bgwhite (talk) 08:18, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
I would love to hear something more. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  08:27, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

I encourage you to keep fixing issues on pages with AWB. Just be careful with settings. AWB provides options to tag as orphan pages with zero incoming links instead of 3. -- Magioladitis (talk) 08:29, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Moreover, editors are encouraged to fix CHECKWIKI errors anf in fact, we need more people involved on that. Magioladitis (talk) 08:31, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

FYI the special categories I alluded to above, comes from CHECKWIKI. In the bottom left panel of AWB where it says "Source", one of the options is "CheckWiki error (number)". The error number is the same as the "ID" value in CHECKWIKI. Bgwhite (talk) 20:32, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Copyright violations again - please stop

Your addition to Central Institute for Cotton Research has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text, or images borrowed from other websites, or printed material without a verifiable license; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. I have removed the copyright violations you have added to the article. You have received numerous warnings in the past about copyright violations, and I strongly encourage you to try to understand the critical nature of such actions, as they can get Wikipedia into legal trouble, which I imagine you do not want to do. Please do NOT copy text from other sources and place it into Wikipedia articles. Thank you. ConcernedVancouverite (talk) 15:27, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

May be, It is the errors that I'm committing that are forcing you to issue and re issue warnings to me. I am requesting you from my deep heart, please do not take of my actions against you in a personal way. Don't know why, It feels to me that your actions are somewhat biased against me (That's just a personal opinion. Kindly do not feel offensive.) If you find any action of mine - disrupting, dangerous, Kindly take help of all that Wikipedia has to offer and take necessary actions against me. But just don't feel anything against me as a person. I do not wish to loose a sincere and devoted person as a carer of mine. Thanks.VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  16:01, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
If there is one thing that Wikipedia takes seriously, it is copyright violations. I'm not sure what is going on between you and Vancouverite, but IF you are doing it, Vancouverite has every right to give you the warnings and you must stop it.
FYI, ConcernedVancouverite's name comes from Vancouver, Canada. The city is on the U.S./Canadian border and Vancouver citizen's know the other side of the border is much better. They also know Victoria, Canada, their superior neighbor, is the best city in Canada, if not North America. So, Vancouverite is a little sensitive knowing they are inferior :) Bgwhite (talk) 20:26, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
It is nothing person, Vivek. It is that you have been repeatedly warned about copyright violations. You have stated that you now understand the issue at other times, yet you continue to copy text from copyrighted sources and add it to wikipedia. It is a wikipedia editor's obligation when they spot such copyright violations to remove them immediately. So if you continue to copy text or images from copyrighted sources and I see such I will continue to remove it. But it would be much easier if you just stopped copying copyrighted material and placing it into Wikipedia articles. ConcernedVancouverite (talk) 22:05, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

I shall endeavor my best not to cause such problems to anyone again in future. I'm taking utmost care regarding this issue now. I really feel glad to have your positive response towards the issue and to find that we have don't any hidden motives against one another. Thanks. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  05:16, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Teahouse talkback: you've got messages!

Hello, Vivek Rai/Archive 1. Your question has been answered at the Teahouse Q&A board. Feel free to reply there!

What template do you want to change the color on? Bgwhite (talk) 21:00, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
Just like the background color available in Template:Infobox_organization for the header text, I wish to have similar styling in another Infobox say, Infobox University. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  04:42, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
Can't do. Template:Infobox university can only be edited by an admin. If you want to add or change something to an infobox, it has to be brought up for discussion first. Wikipidia likes to use standard templates and not have different templates for the same thing. So, the odds of changing anything in an infobox are slim. Odds of creating your own when a standard one already exists is zero. Infoboxes are out the realm of us mere mortals. Non-infobox templates are much easier if a need requires. I've created several. Bgwhite (talk) 04:58, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

That's why I seek help. I do not wish to change the Infobox. I wish if there is some styling technique or any HTML code which when put the the text, shows similar effect. Is it possible? VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  05:04, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Ah, my light bulb went off and I think I understand now. You can't change a background color unless the infobox has the option. So, there is no way you to do a different background in Infobox University. If you wanted to do something else besides an infobox, I believe Wikipedia:User_page_design_center/Style would be useful. You can create things that have different backgrounds, such as my Dashboard page. Bgwhite (talk) 05:54, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
Yes, Indeed there's a way. Infact, you only told me that, although unintentionally. It's just working as fine as I had wanted. Thanks.
I used <div style="background-color:yellow;">Hi</div> , and it worked like magic. Thanks again for the help. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  07:24, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Removal of copyright violation notices

Please do not remove copyright violation notices, as you did at National Institute of Disaster Management, as this disrupts our process for identifying and reviewing potential copyright violations. If you wish to replace the article with a non-infringing version, please follow the instructions on the template, which will become visible after you follow the "[show]" link next to the text "Otherwise, you may write a new article without copyright-infringing material." I have reverted your changes to restore the copyright violation notice, but they remain accessible in the page history in case you want to start a new article according to the template instructions. —Psychonaut (talk) 07:45, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

It is taking much time. I think most of the copyright content has been removed as far as possible. So I went ahead and removed it. If it in any sense hurt Wikipedia policies, I beg to offer an apology. Anyways, I would like to have your assistance in getting this issue over as soon as possible. Thanks! VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  07:52, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
You can't circumvent the copyright violation policies just because you think they're taking too long. Copyright violation poses a very real legal threat to Wikipedia; it could get the entire project shut down, or sued out of existence, and so it's important to follow the procedures and guidelines carefully regardless of how long they take. —Psychonaut (talk) 07:54, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Yeah. I get what you are trying to say. Thanks for looking into the matter and if you can offer some assistance, please pray do so. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  08:00, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Article for creation-KOLOS

Vivek, I had submitted a new article for creation and the title was "KOLOS" The initial reviewer declined the article stating coverage about the topic. So, I have added a few more authentic references, including Central Water Commission, Govt. of India. Moreover this topic was published in an International Conference (PIANC-COPEDEC 2012) and in a national conference, which I feel is a valid reference. The topic also comes in the website of Navayuga Engineering, who are the creators of KOLOS.

I am comparitively new to Wikipedia in terms of article creation. So please help me in improving the article to make it worthy of publishing in wiki.

Carbon shift (book)

Vivek...regarding the newly created article 'Carbon shift (book) which I understand you worked on getting accepted, I need help with a couple of things. The title needs adjustment. 'Shift' should be capitalized. How does one go about that? Secondly, regarding the comment that the article should be divided into sections, it is, and the sections follow the outline in the book: the contributors, the content, the book's reception. There are not really other sections I can think of. What did you have in mind when you made that comment? Also, about the rating, could you suggest major improvements? As a newcomer, I want to get on the right path. Thanks for your help.

Jbghewer (talk) 17:07, 4 July 2012 (UTC)Joan

I'll make my points a bit more clearer later. As for the name is considered, I'll repair it. And about dividing the article in sections, I meant - the contents section could be divided into more scetion so as to highlight it a bit clearer. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  04:29, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Vivek, I will try for a few sections that might make sense, then hoping the flag box at the top can disappear. I am also going to try to fix the fact that the phot in the infobox is too big. Thanks, Joan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jbghewer (talkcontribs) 12:10, 6 July 2012 (UTC) Vivek, I have added sections to the 'Contents' section. Jbghewer (talk) 13:59, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Ganges

The article Ganges you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Ganges for things which need to be addressed. Ankit MaityTalkContribs 16:20, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Please don't nominate Paula Teixeira da Cruz for speedy deletion again. In fact, please don't even take the article to WP:AFD. The sources indicate that the subject is the Minister of Justice of Portugal, which means she is presumed to be notable under WP:POLITICIAN. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 05:46, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Seth Mokitimi

Hi Vivek
refer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Seth_Mokitimi

re your comments:

For a historical person it is very difficult to find sources. I could have put in five or six apparently different sources, but they would actually have pointed back to the two articles which I did reference. I preferred to be straightforward and honest. I have added one more, a print book. I will add further sources as and when I locate them. I expect to have access to Gqubule's book (which is currently out of print and not available even from Alibris.com) next year, at a Seminary library.

You say the article is not written in an encyclopedic tone, and not NPOV. I do not agree. Please show me where this applies. If the article uses non-NPOV language (eg "overwhelming enthusiasm") it is because I am quoting the source, it is not my language. This particular example reflects how Mokitimi was regarded by the 2007 conference delegates, as reported by Richardson and Kumalo. For another, if Seth Mokitmi is called "a hero", it is Nelson Mandela who says so, not me.

I hope to hear from you soon. David_FLXD (Talk) 06:51, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

First of all, I am glad to have your attention towards working out for the article and getting it to the Wikipedia. I'm saying so because many people do not care of what they are posting at AfC and just submit and re submit again without any improvements. As for as your issues are concerned, I did not meant to assert my points strongly and that's why I didn't decline it or so. I wanted you attention and willingness towards it. Now that I have it, I may accept it soon so that If any issues arises later you'll be there to work on it. So cheers. :)

There are some suggestions I would like to convey :

  • Add an infobox to the article.
  • If you can find any old photos (most possibly they will be in Public domain if older than a particular period) or any free images available, have them uploaded.
  • Make the references look a bit neat, specifically the second one.
  • Add categories to the article.

Thanks.VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  10:39, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Vivek, I see the article is up - thank you! Rest assured I will continue to work on further development and look after it. I do plan to add an infobox, and I hope to find a photo at seminary next year. If you can give any advice on tidying up that horrible 2nd ref, without losing the target, I would be grateful. I don't like it any more than you do! David_FLXD (Talk) 14:43, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Hi again. Why did you find it necessary to change the way I had done the references? I understood that they way they were was perfectly acceptable. For your information, I have also removed the italics from Mokitimi's family members' personal names: according to MoS they should not be italicised. Finally, I have replaced the quesion mark in infobox nationality "South African?" and added (not confirmed) because I have not yet been able to determine his nationality definitely. Your other edits stand. David_FLXD (Talk) 07:00, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

I guess from you comment that you're quite furious with my contribution to the article. If it is the case, I shall remind you that Wikipedia is not a someone's personal thing and everyone is open to editing and contribution in a positive way. I see that I have in no manner disrupted the appearance and content of the article, rather made it look more beautiful. But If you comment was just a suggestion, I welcome it. Thanks VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  07:10, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

No, far from furious! Bothered, perhaps? I just don't understand why the reference method was changed. Has it made any difference to the appearance? (It may have, I don't know. That's why I'm asking.) Then I thought I'd better explain why I put the query back in "South African?", because I realised from your edit that it was not clear enough that nationality was uncertain. Please take more care

Please be more careful in reviewing AfC submissions in the future. You sent live an article that has a long history of problems, including using non-reliable sources, lack of sourced notability, and a history of having been deleted via AfD while containing substantially the same content as it does today. I notice that you moved it to a title other than "Ken Sibanda", presumably because Ken Sibanda is admin-protected, for exactly the reason that the article has been repeatedly recreated in a disruptive manner and the AfC content wasn't ready for mainspace. In the future, please take the time to check sources and article history before sending an AfC live.A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 14:15, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for intimating. I shall take enough care in future. Actually, the article looked good enough at first sight, but anyways I should have been more careful because it was a BLP article. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  14:23, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for July 13

Hi. When you recently edited Frank E. Snodgrass, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Berkeley (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion declined: No More Wig for Ohio

Hello Vivek Rai. Just letting you know that this article did not meet criteria for an A9 speedy deletion, for at least two reasons: (1) It's an album of a notable artist; (2) Multiple sources are cited. Thanks, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 13:56, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

We see that you need a little more understanding of Counter-Vandalism before you're granted Rollback. The Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy exists to help users, like yourself, understand the way to identify and handle Vandalism through one-on-one instruction. Perhaps you'd like to ask a question of our instructors, or perhaps Enroll in the Academy.

Callanecc (talkcontribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 02:42, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Hello and welcome to CVUA! I will be your instructor. Thanks for helping keep Wikipedia free of vandalism. I think that the first thing we should decide is how to keep in touch. It would be best for me if you want to use an IM service. I have accounts on MSN, Aim, Yahoo!, Google Talk, Skype. If one of those is convenient for you, I can email you my contact info. Elizium23 (talk) 01:52, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll be available only with Google Talk. I shall send you the email with necessary details and please keep me updated of your free time. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  03:32, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
I have sent you email with my contact info. I have also added yours to Google Talk. I look forward to seeing you online there. Have a read of Wikipedia:Vandalism and I will start explaining in depth how to recognize vandalism. Elizium23 (talk) 19:21, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Speedy declined

I have declined your speedy deletion nomination of (Suso) Jesús Fernández Sáez. This is a player who, at 17, is playing on the first team of Liverpool F.C., one of England's Premier League teams. That alone merits declining the speedy deletion. But a quick search shows that he has been the subject of a great deal of press already, and will likely continue to be for some time to come. Goodell-Pratt speedy deletion

I've removed your speedy deletion nomination of Goodell-Pratt. The article's source is to a website which probably doesn't count as a reliable source, but that website itself contains an extensive bibliography of further sources which are indisputably reliable, and easily establish the company as being notable. I updated the article with a reference to what is probably the most important source (a journal article which discusses the company in detail). —Psychonaut (talk) 14:23, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Non-admin closure of a merger

Hi, You performed a non-admin closure of the merger I proposed at Ram Kishore Shukla. According to WP:NAC, this shouldn't happen in deletion discussions both because seven days had not passed and because you had expressed an opinion in the discussion. I'm not sure if the same policy applies for mergers as for deletions, but I've brought up the question at WP:Administrators'_noticeboard#Ram_Kishore_Shukla. Article Feedback newsletter

Hey all!

So, big news this week - on Tuesday, we ramped up to 5 percent of articles :). There's been a lot more feedback (pardon the pun) as I'm sure you've noticed, and to try and help we've scheduled a large number of office hours sessions, including one this evening at 22:00 UTC in the #wikimedia-office connect channel, and another at 01:00 UTC for the aussies amongst us :). I hope to see some of you there - if any of you can't make it but have any questions, I'm always happy to help.

Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 20:36, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Vivek Rai, how are you ?

You look like you are doing really well, is there anything I can do to help ? you look like you need talkpage archiving, if so, just let me know how many days you want it set for, and I'll do the rest. Penyulap 15:16, 22 Jul 2012 (UTC)

I'm really thankful for the support you have shown to me. Yes I do need archiving of my talk page, but I couln't find some time to do. But rather archiving the messages by the no. of days,it would be better to archive all messages save 25 on the talk page. In the meantime, I shall always seek your support to continue my endeavor for Wikipedia. Thanks!VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  04:24, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
You're welcome. I can set it to archive after 1 month and always leave the last 25 on the page as a priority. Penyulap 04:28, 23 Jul 2012 (UTC)
That's fine. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  04:30, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
I've done that, and as a short term thing you'll be able to find the archive by clicking history and you can see where the bot puts it, he mentions in his edit summary. It should take about a day for him to stop by initially. Penyulap 04:40, 23 Jul 2012 (UTC)

Yeah Thanks. I'll get that. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  04:44, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Vivek Rai/Archive 1! The instructors at the Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy have seen your hard work reverting vandalism, and we would like to thank you. But do you want to go to the next level? Would you like to know how reverts, warnings, reports, blocks, and bans all come together to keep this Encyclopedia free from disruption? He's already been invited, and accepted as my student. I've had my first session with him and I'm waiting for him to come back online for the second. Elizium23 (talk) 15:53, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
If either of you would like help with a different approach, I work in the opposite direction, attacking the cause of the vandalism before it starts, I only mention as it is so exotic I can't find anyone else who fights vandalism the same way I do. Penyulap 04:42, 23 Jul 2012 (UTC)
I appreciate the methodology you have presented. But me and my mentor had a quite good discussion over this issue in our first session. Attacking the root of the Vandalism will not only demoralize those people who might have done it un knowingly or in good faith. But we know, we too are never right always is judging the correct form of the Vandalism. Rather, It would be best to use an approach which gives us a method to harness the energy of those Vandalisers and divert it to good side of Wikipedia. This will be the brightest part of this method. Although It will not be easy and requires a great deal of positiveness to be present from our side, but It is neither impossible too. If we find a user, who is capable of contributing to Wikipedia, we may help him encourage and contribute in a more positive way.. Awarding few barnstars or few words of appreciation take nothing from us. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  06:29, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
I think we were talking past each other there, I meant to say that the new editors who arrive always do have something to offer, there is almost no 'pure vandalism' out there, almost all of it has a reason, sometimes as simple as the article quality being extremely poor. Often people will 'attack' right at the site of the problem in an article. When I look through their eyes, I often can see and fix that problem and settle the article down. I shall leave you all to it, it is not my field to clean up vandalism at all, I almost always leave it to do other work. Penyulap 07:50, 23 Jul 2012 (UTC)

G4. Recreation of a page that was deleted per a deletion discussion.

  • A sufficiently identical and unimproved copy, having any title, of a page deleted via its most recent deletion discussion.[3] This excludes pages that are not substantially identical to the deleted version, pages to which the reason for the deletion no longer applies, and content moved to user space for explicit improvement (but not simply to circumvent Wikipedia's deletion policy). This criterion also excludes content undeleted via deletion review, or which was deleted via proposed deletion or speedy deletion (although in that case the previous speedy criterion, or other speedy criteria, may apply). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mziboy (talkcontribs) 07:21, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Copyright violations in Shree Jain Vidyalaya

Hi! I have been forced to delete most of the content in Shree Jain Vidyalaya, as large parts were exact copies of text from [1], [2], [3], etc. That is really not acceptable on Wikipedia and could lead to a block if you continue to add copyright violations. You made an effort to rewrite the article at Talk:Shree Jain Vidyalaya/Temp, but that is unusable since most of it contains the copyright violations that were in the original article. Orphaned non-free image File:IINRG logo.png

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:IINRG logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 23:18, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Dibyendu Nandi.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Dibyendu Nandi.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 18:04, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

This is not a newsletter

This is just a tribute.

Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.

In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 11:28, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

AFT5 newsletter

Hey all :). A couple of quick updates (one small, one large)

First, we're continuing to work on some ways to increase the quality of feedback and make it easier to eliminate and deal with non-useful feedback: hopefully I'll have more news for you on this soon :).

Second, we're looking at ways to increase the actual number of users patrolling and take off some of the workload from you lot. Part of this is increasing the prominence of the feedback page, which we're going to try to do with a link at the top of each article to the relevant page. This should be deployed on Tuesday (touch wood!) and we'll be closely monitoring what happens. Let me know if you have any questions or issues :). Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 14:24, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

Hey all; another newsletter.

  • If you're not already aware, a Request for Comment on the future of the Article Feedback Tool on the English-language Wikipedia is open; any and all comments, regardless of opinion and perspective, are welcome.
  • Our final round of hand-coding is complete, and the results can be found here; thanks to everyone who took part!
  • We've made test deployments to the German and French-language projects; if you are aware of any other projects that might like to test out or use the tool, please let me know :).
  • Developers continue to work on the upgraded version of the feedback page that was discussed during our last office hours session, with a prototype ready for you to play around with in a few weeks.

Hey all.

As promised, we've built a set of improvements to the Article Feedback Tool, which can be tested through the links here. Please do take the opportunity to play around with it, let me know of any bugs, and see what you think :).

Your editor review request

Hello there. Long overdue, but your editor review request has been reviewed and archived. Cheers! Alex ShihTalk 01:33, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

The article Central Institute for Cotton Research has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Has been tagged for notability issues for over a year. A recent search still turns up no significant independent reliable source coverage to establish notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
