Brattleboro Museum and Art Center

Why are you recreating this article without explanation, and without fixing the serious issues? The sources you are adding do nothing to demonstrate notability - merely having exhibitions by a famous artist does not render an art gallery notable. Notability requires substantial, non-routine coverage by independent sources. If you are insistent on recreating the article, you also need to fix the POV language and lack of citations in the prose, and properly format your citations. If you are not willing to do this work, please stop edit warring and recreating the article. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 07:17, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

The museum is indeed notable. A Google of "Brattleboro Museum" shows a great deal of press over decades. I will work on getting more citations in. Best, Thriley (talk) 07:22, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
Is it actually substantial coverage, or is it merely run-of-the-mill coverage? I only see the former from a search. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 07:30, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
There is regular press coverage from regional newspapers. I will seek out coverage that covers the museum’s history itself.Thriley (talk) 07:36, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

Alaska dairy industry moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Alaska dairy industry, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Bare URLs

Hello! I noticed your new articles, thank you for your contributions. When publishing articles it is a good idea to use this tool to fill out the references. If references are "bare URLs", they could be deleted later by their publisher and we would have no idea of what the source was. If we have the title, author, name of publication etc, we can track down the source. Thanks Possibly (talk) 03:34, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

About Rosemary Margaret Smith

Would you be okay with me submitting Rosemary Margaret Smith to DYK? It's just long enough now to qualify and we can always have more articles on women on the front page. SilverserenC 00:35, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

New categories

Please don't create "naked" categories as you did with eg Category:Plagiostachys - add at least one category (such as the one for the parent taxon, you can grab it from the equivalent article) so that humans and maintenance bots can find it in the hierarchy, and ideally a {{catmain}} as I did here. Also it's good practice to add a new genus category to the corresponding genus article, ie Plagiostachys. Le Deluge (talk) 10:33, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

January 15, 6pm: Wikimedia NYC celebrates 20 years of Wikipedia

Wikipedia Day is always a big day for Wikimedia NYC. While we cannot meet in person, we still have something special planned. We will begin the event with the debut of a new video celebrating our community. This will be followed by a panel discussion with some of the people you'll see in the video talking about Wikipedia's 20th anniversary, Wikimedia New York City, and the amazing work they do on Wikimedia projects.

The event will be broadcast live via YouTube. Feel free to ask questions for the panel through the chat!

We will also have some NYC wiki trivia you can participate in, with confectionery prizes.

Species stubs

Hi Thriley, could I ask you to employ a slightly more useful format for your new species stubs? As exemplified by Kathetostoma canaster:

  • please include a {{speciesbox}}, or at least a manual {{taxobox}}
  • don't use pointless high-domain references to, e.g., Fishbase - we don't expect our readers to navigate extended searches when checking a reference. Instead use links to the exact entry, e.g.: "Froese, Rainer; Pauly, Daniel (eds.) (2021). "Kathetostoma canaster" in FishBase. 1 2021 version.". (You'll note that for Fishbase, there's a handy shortcut template!)
  • omit statements like "no subspecies are listed in CoI". That's the base state for species - if there are subspecies, we mention it, otherwise the assumption is that there are none
  • check for name typos - it's canaster, not the originally used canister

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. Thanks! Wareon (talk) 04:53, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

  • I think that nomination was a bit hasty, but it shows that it's useful to add {{under construction}} while you're developing an article, to deter those who don't think that citing 7 newspaper refs is an indication of notability.
But, talking of refs: Refill2 seems to make a pretty poor job of fixing newspaper refs. Please check that what it's done is reasonable: it doesn't seem to identify newspapers, for which "cite news" produces a better ref than "cite web", and for which the publication date and access date should both be given: it doesn't seem to bother producing a date at all. I've upgraded a couple of the refs, and also given a couple of them more civilised names so that they can be re-used more easily. Thanks for your work on this interesting character. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Oliver Tarbell Eddy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.avictorian.com/Eddy_Oliver_Tarbell.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
