TarHippoBot blocked

I have blocked the TarHippoBot account since you cannot use accounts with a "-bot" suffix unless they are either approved bot accounts or the suffix arises naturally from the name. Daniel Case (talk) 21:17, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce

I've restored the text at User:TarHippo/Chamber of Commerce. In the future, before creating an article, it's best to write it in your userspace or somewhere like that; if you post it like this, without demonstrating or even claiming notability, it's likely to be deleted. Nyttend (talk) 01:59, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Qantas Fatal Accidents

Sorry for not replying sooner; I don't spend very much time on Wikipedia at the moment. I would like to add references, however at the moment and for the foreseeable future all of my books are in storage. If the task remains undone when I do get my books back on a shelf, then I will certainly add the references. YSSYguy (talk) 02:12, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Re: Ken Jeong image

Thanks for you note. I thought OTRS was still backed up, but your message helped me realize they had responded to me. I received an OTRS number, but there was an additional concern, which I have now responded to. We'll see if that clears things up or whether additional confirmation is needed.--Kubigula (talk) 04:04, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

TarHippoBot unblocked

{{unblock|Can this account be unblocked for a very short time so that it may be migrated to the unified login system?}}

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Sure, but please keep editing here to an absolute minimum - I will (unfortunately) be keeping a very close eye on the contributions. Also make sure you're following the username policy at any other Wikimedia wikis you edit. Please notify someone (me, or others) when you're done unifying.

Personal attacks

My pointing out your failure to do any research prior to recommending an article for deletion is hardly a personal attack. If you do not want anyone to point out your short commings, maybe you should not try to point out the short commings of others. Glovejr (talk) 01:55, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Inappropriate non-free logos

I'd like to understand why you edited to deleted logo's off of three different articles:

(cur) (last) 23:53, 13 June 2008 TarHippo (Talk | contribs) (39,760 bytes) (→Mountain Heritage Center: rm inappropriate non-free logos) (undo)
(cur) (last) 23:53, 13 June 2008 TarHippo (Talk | contribs) (39,890 bytes) (→Athletics: rm inappropriate non-free logo) (undo)
(cur) (last) 23:52, 13 June 2008 TarHippo (Talk | contribs) (39,964 bytes) (→Greek Life: rm inappropriate non-free logos) (undo)

What makes these "inappropriate non-free logos" ? I'd like for you to reference where this is legimite editing, and how you determined these logo's were inappropriate. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Glovejr (talkcontribs) 21:55, June 13, 2008

Bob Waters

I'm not sure I'd call it a rewrite, if you look closely just a couple of words have been switched in each of a few sentences. I'm not sure that's enough to prevent a copyright violation, though I'm no expert. Hippo (talk) 20:42, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

I see where you're coming from. Why don't you replace it with {{subst:copyvio}} and list it at WP:CP? That'll allow for further discussion. Stifle (talk) 20:50, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
Sounds sensible. I'll do that. Hippo (talk) 20:51, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

I've removed the copyvio tag. I agree that it is snarky, but it is not a direct copy and paste of the original work. Rewording can be considered plagarism, but that is not illegal under the United States Code. That being said, the article is horribly POV and could do with a rewrite if you're so inclined. FAC withdrawn

Once you doublecheck that the principle contributor (Artichoke2020) says it's ready, you can reinstate it; we don't want a surprise (often seen), where the principle editor comes in and opposes, saying it's not ready. Pls doublecheck first. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:45, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
How's that coming along? If the principle editors have raised no issues, it's OK to nominate. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:14, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
I've heard no objections back, so I guess everything is OK. Hippo (talk) 02:24, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
If you re-nom, just add a new blurb to the FAC page and re-sign. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:32, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

"UNC" and "Carolina" reference

I saw that you added a second reference for "Carolina" as an official abbreviation. I actually think that it is redundant since the DTH article cited says that both "UNC" and "Carolina" are official abbreviations for the university. Rreagan007 (talk) 20:44, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

I forgot there was a Carolina reference in the first. I don't mind if you we lose the second then, though since it mentions South Carolina, it might help cut down debate in future. Hippo (talk) 20:56, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Blue Devil and Rameses

I think the picture can be used in the main article in the section you have it in. I don't think it can be used in the Victory Bell (Carolina-Duke) article. The Bell article is about the trophy itself and has nothing to do with either the Blue Devil or Rameses. You could put the picture in the Rameses article though. UNC photos

First of all, thanks for sorting out my UNC photo contributions and correcting my mistakes, and sorry for any inconvenience I've caused with my naïveté. I changed the picture of the Wilson Library to one I took, and I noticed you changed it back. As I think mine is of higher (technical) quality, I'd like to ask why? I took several angles of it, and this one shows if from the same angle too. If you simply want a different shot, let me know what you want and I can try to take another shot. Furthermore, if you live near UNC, would you like to meet up in real life and collaborate, perhaps? I wouldn't mind just taking the photos for the Commons and passing them on to you to entirely to use in the article. --Specious (talk) 17:14, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I just noticed you specified it's because Polk Place isn't shown. I could actually do that, but I found that it's hard to get a good shot of both. Can we have separately a good picture of Polk Place and one of Wilson? Also, do you prefer people to be in the photos? --Specious (talk) 17:37, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

List of Carolina Basketball Coaches Seasons

Seeing how you like Carolina-related articles, I thought you might be interested in helping me create a Featured List for the Head Coaches of Carolina Basketball. It would be modeled on the List of Boston Celtics head coaches, which is a Featured List. You can check out what I have done so far here - User:Remember/SandboxUNC. Just so you know, I don't want to move this list onto its own page until it is in good shape and can qualify for a DYK candidate. Any help you could give would be appreciated. Remember (talk) 13:17, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

I've now changed what I was working on to make it a list of UNC basketball seasons instead(I'll work on the coach one later). It's pretty far along now, but any help you can give would be appreciated. See User:Remember/SandboxUNC for the current draft. Remember (talk) 12:51, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

UNC page

Hi, I noticed you changed around the picture layout on the UNC page. You are correct that according to the MoS, you "do not place a left-aligned images directly below second-level (===) headings," but I believe you are supposed to put them under the first-level headings because they create a line break. If you look at the Duke page they follow this format. Also, for right-aligned images I think it looks better visually if the top of the image is in line with the first line of text. This is also how the Duke page does it. Not that I really like Duke or anything mind you, but they do have a very good wikipedia page. I've made the changes back to what I think is the best arrangement for the pictures. I also moved the last 3 pictures to opposite sides to avoid the problem, even though that doesn't stick perfectly to the "left-right" pattern.

Also I'm sure you've noticed how the "See also" section keeps being changed to an "Alumni" section. I'm not the one doing that, but it does show that people expect to see an Alumni section. There is obviously no requirement for one, but I think featured article reviewers will also be looking for an alumni section. I know you've been doing a lot of great work improving the UNC page, so I thought maybe you would consider writing one. Rreagan007 (talk) 19:44, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Titletown USA

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did to Titletown USA. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Titletown USA is a trademark of the city of Green Bay. Besides, ESPN used the word as TitleTown USA (note the capital T), which already redirects to the ESPN article. I've redirected it to Green Bay, Wisconsin, where it rightfully should. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ghettoshark (talkcontribs) 23:20, August 2, 2008

Orphaned non-free media (Image:University of North Carolina School of the Arts seal.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:University of North Carolina School of the Arts seal.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:58, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Charles Justice

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Charles Justice, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Charles Justice seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Charles Justice, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 07:52, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

I rechecked the article. An IP added a content to the original redirect page, and the content was:

On November 11 1911, Charles Justice was electrocuted by the State of Ohio.

It was an ironic end, since when serving an earlier stint in the state penitentiary shortly after the electric chair was introduced, Justice had hit upon the idea of metal clamps in place of leather straps to more securely hold down the chair’s clientele and avoid burnt flesh.

The improvement, duly implemented, was there awaiting its creator.

This is the reason another user tagged it for speedy deletion. --Efe (talk) 11:37, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Murder of Eve Carson. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Murder of Eve Carson. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:13, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

The article Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no substantial 3rd party references for notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. DGG ( talk ) 05:10, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
