Orphaned non-free media (Image:WCUlg.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:WCUlg.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. NotifyBot (talk) 15:30, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Power905.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Power905.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Additionally, if you continue uploading bad images, you may be blocked from uploading. STBotI (talk) 03:04, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SoCon Facilities[edit]

Look, I realize you're new here and stuff. I think you're doing a fine job on the WCU page (even if it is more of an advertisment than an actual article). However, yes I've put a lot of my time and effort into the Southern Conference page. The naming conventions used are fine. They are the same as those used in the Football and Basketball templates. There's no need for you to arrive and suddenly powertrip your way through every article dealing with WCU.

The full names of the ASU facilities aren't used either. There's no bias here, percieved or otherwise. The table is already gaudy looking enough without needing the exact name of every WCU facility spelled out. Geologik (talk) 04:12, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Catamount Logo.jpg}[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Catamount Logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Asheville Graduate Center[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, you may not know that Wikipedia has a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Using different styles throughout the encyclopedia, as you did in Asheville Graduate Center, makes it harder to read. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Hippo (talk) 23:36, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Asheville Graduate Center, please make sure that the subject of the article really belongs in the category that you specified. If it has not been already, it may be removed if the category has not been deemed correct for the subject matter. Thank you. Hippo (talk) 23:36, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free image policy[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload new images, however, it appears that one or more of the images you have recently uploaded may fail our non-free image policy. Most often, this involves editors uploading a copyrighted image of a living person. For other possible reason, please read up on our Non-free image criteria. Please note that we take very seriously our criteria on non-free image uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Hippo (talk) 23:58, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that the article you created on this campus has a new home, as above, without the possessive. Didn't want you wondering where it had gone. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:07, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Asheville Graduate Center[edit]

I have nominated Asheville Graduate Center, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Asheville Graduate Center. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Hippo (talk) 00:47, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks will lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. Hippo (talk) 01:47, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I noticed your replies seemed to be a bit agitated, and I wanted to encourage you to not lose heart. No one's saying that your work has no value--they're just questioning whether it should have a standalone article, or simply be included in a larger article of unquestionable notability. My first involvement in Wikipedia was as a WP:MEATPUPPET to defend a game I ran--DartMUD. I didn't understand Wikipedia's goals or criteria at the time, and I hear echoes of my frustration in your message. I've since learned a lot more, and understand, in retrospect, why the attempt to delete a topic I really felt strongly about was correct. I hope that you can find a similar happy ending; feel free to drop me a note on my talk page if you want any help or just a sounding board. Jclemens (talk) 18:29, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free logos[edit]

The policy on non-free images is at WP:FU. In this case #8 is probably the most relevant:

Significance. Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic.

If you look at other articles, that usually translates into a single image (maybe in an infobox) on the actual page of the organization that the logo represents, as opposed to mentions of such organization elsewhere, which was the case with those I removed. Hope this makes sense, just ask me, or anyone else, if it doesn't. Thanks. Hippo (talk) 04:18, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your explination makes no sense.

Copyright violation in Bob Waters[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Bob Waters, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Bob Waters is unquestionably copyright infringement, and no assertion of permission has been made.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Bob Waters, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. SoCon Marching Bands[edit]

Help me out here. When creating new articles try to work some references in from the get-go. Also, it's usually not a good idea to copy word for word from the source. That's called plagiarism. I've started the cleanup already for Elon, but it would help me out (and provide a greater chance of articles to avoid deletion) if you would take what I wrote into consideration. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
