The article Megan M. Carpenter has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Megan M. Carpenter requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://law.unh.edu/person/megan-carpenter. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Fairview (Summit Point, WV)[edit]

Hello there!

I am a reviewer with Wikiproject Article for Creation. As part of that project, we review articles that have been submitted in order to ensure that the article meets the guidelines for inclusion and content. I was reviewing the article you submitted for review at User:Pilgrimfoot/sandbox/Fairview (Summit Point, WV), and am looking to see if there could be some adjustments to be made that would bring it in line with the guidelines for inclusion.

In basic terms, I am looking to make sure that all the facts in the article have been published by third-party reliable sources at some point. The work of finding reliable sources for a historical house is difficult, since most of the records are not online. I have found some evidence online, including some photos from the Jefferson County Museum ([1]), but all the mentions are in passing and don't provide much detail.

For the article to be published we would need more external* sources that describe the house in a significant way. Would you have access to sources regarding this house? Paper sources are fine, as are newspaper articles or the like, but need to be properly cited. I can assist you with that process, if you want. You can leave a message on my talk page, and it will notify me.

  • PS: By external, I mean from outside Wikipedia. However, if you find something on Wikipedia and it is sourced, we can use the source.

Reply[edit]

Do you have the link to the newspaper article? I will also be looking into the book you mentioned. Do you happen to know the name of the historian, and whether he was affiliated with any historical society? Thanks, Acebulf (talk) 14:06, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

PS. I will be monitoring this page using the watchlist feature, so you can leave a response right under this post, and I will see it.

1. Yes, here is the newspaper article I mentioned: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/34636587/previous_home_of_gurdon_h_pendleton/

2. I don't see the name of the historian on the doc, but there is a name on the notebook cover which is Patt Welsh.

3. This bibliography is in the documentation I mentioned.

Bibliography from the notes of Fairview historian

4. An external mention at Civil War Scholars.com (they mention "Eastwood" the Withers house, this was the previous name of Fairview, but they have the date wrong): http://civilwarscholars.com/places/the-civil-war-in-jefferson-county-homes-in-1860/

5. Also, I found a hard copy detailed genealogical list of the Withers family including all descendants who lived here. Not sure if thats of any use.

Thanks!

I reviewed the Wiki guidelines for formal tone, and reviewed my article but I cannot determine where I violate the tone guidelines - can someone point me to where I go wrong so I can fix it? Thanks so much! Pilgrimfoot (talk) 00:08, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Pilgrimfoot, generally people don't watch other peoples talk pages so asking questions is unlikely to get a response - I just happened to notice because of the "thanks" you gave. So to ask a particular editor you can "ping" them by linking there user name such as Sulfurboy (using [[User:Sulfurboy|Sulfurboy]] ) or @Sulfurboy: (using {{Ping|Sulfurboy}} ) and signing the message (in the same edit) with the four tildes ~~~~. Alternatively you can ask them on their own talk page either manually or use the "reviewer's talk page" link on the decline. Lastly you can ask for help using the "Articles for creation help desk" link on the decline or the Wikipedia:Teahouse to get input from more editors. I would assume some of the issues were the "Historical Significance" section is unsourced and without reading it all terms like "significant example" and "significant features" would be deemed puff non neutral terms unless that's what reliable sources specifically say.
