Help with a disagreement

I observed that you stepped in when there was a disagreement described on the Wikipedia Editor Request page. I ask you or a WP editor with similar experience to help with a disagreement I have with a newcomer named Psyballed. The disagreement concerns the relationship between occupational health psychology and health psychology. I say the OHP is in part related to HP (as well as some other disciplines). Psyballed says OHP isn't related to HP or doesn't like the sources I used to indicate that OHP is related to HP.

I asked for help on the Wikipedia Editor Request page and on the HP talk page. But I haven't gotten the external help I asked for. I don't want to be in a futile edit war with Psyballed.

I don't know you. I saw that you contributed on the Wikipedia Editor Request page. I am asking for help in adjudicating the disagreement Psyballed and I have. Thanks. Iss246 (talk) 00:35, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

I question why you didn't also notify Iss246 of their obvious edit warring given they have been blocked for edit warring many times before. Seems very biased of you actually. Psyballed (talk) 22:20, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

Endorsement lists

Hi-- Did the wider discussion about endorsement lists ever happen after that recent AFD? And are there lists besides Category:Lists of United States presidential candidate endorsements (eg for other countries), or is it just that category? Thanks, Lev!vich 22:51, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

I don't know of any country that has, or gives as much attention to, endorsements in the US manner. And I know of no such discussion. The baseless and facile abuse I received over that issue leaves me disinclined to try to make further improvements there; at least for now. Wikicite meeting

Hi! Asking you because you were involved in the development of {{Cite Q}}.

Next week there is an online meeting about Wikicite. I am looking for ways to bridge the futuristic ideas of Wikicite with the actual realities and technicalities of editing the wikis. I proposed a session about this, and I'd love to hear more expert voices there. Here is the what I wrote about my presentation: meta:WikiCite/2020 Virtual conference/The frontend of WikiCite.

Would you be willing to join the panel discussion, and perhaps present some of your own ideas, or challenges of which you can think in transition to any future systems? I'd like to hear as many expert voices as possible.

Thanks! --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 12:20, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

@Amire80: Thank you, and yes, happy to, subject to the timeslot - I have various commitments in my day already. Shall we take this to email? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:33, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

Request for assistance with minor issue - if interested...

Hi Andy, I am having an issue (or 2) with whether and/or what to include in a Wikipedia article where the material is public, but not specifically identified as the subject of the article (and it seems that interested persons wish to keep it that way)... if you want, please take a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Shirburn_Castle#Unattributed_photographs_%28including_interior%29 and add any thoughts there! Thanks in advance - Tony Tony 1212 (talk) 21:22, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

REMOVING SINCE I HAVE REPLIED ON THE MOORE TALK PAGE. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lilipo25 (talkcontribs) 09:36, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

You removed this text; I have replied at Talk:Captain Tom#‎Recent revert undone. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 08:50, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
Yes, I said I removed it. You were typing there while I was typing here. Lilipo25 (talk) 09:10, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Alliance of British Drivers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Alex Sims (talk) 12:29, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

@Alex Sims: Not only am I not the article's creator, but this is far from "a repost of material that was previously deleted". Whatever makes you think that? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:25, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
Please accept my apologies. I'd never seen a "N" new article on my watchlist and found it all a little odd. Rummaged through the various policies and came up with the G4. Then used the template and thought I should put it on all of the people who had put some effort into it, thinking you'd mind if your effort in improving the article was deleted. Anyway an admin you *can* actually see whether its different or not has looked at it and gone, no, its not a G4. I was only guessing from memory that it looked the same. Thanks. Alex Sims (talk) 01:44, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

HGOT

Dear Andy,

Thank you for your comments on Village Pump. I have noticed a curious and (to me) really rather disturbing behavioural syndrome on WP in connection with COI. I have genuinely sought advice on two occasions, relating to HGO Trust, on where the limits might be for me as an editor with a COI. On both occasions editors have given me advice, but then proceeded to edit the HGO Trust page quite extensively, in such a way that it is difficult for me, keeping to the guidelines, to correct or to properly contextualize their edits. By bringing the article to the attention of editors, I have, it appears, inadvertently opened it to attack, with the presumption of the editors concerned that the text they are editing (much of it dating from long before my connection with the organization) must be somehow suspect. I have just made a couple of re-edits to the page in the wake of such changes - I will be interested to see how they are treated. To me, the determination of some editors to treat organizations like HGO as if they are major mind-benders seems contrary to the spirit of WP - and reduces it to the status of Twitter or Facebook where the presumed motives of contributors must take precedence over what they are saying. As you say at the head of your talkpage, "It's important to realise that our mission is not to make a website, but to share knowledge, freely available for reuse". Perhaaps to 'not make a website', one could also add 'or a social media opinion forum'. Best, --Smerus (talk) 13:32, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

In fact as you see the presumption of guilt was almost immediately forthcoming. - --Smerus (talk) 13:52, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
@Smerus: Sadly, I'm not in the least surprised by this; your analysis is spot on. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:10, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Direct, reliable sources needed for Days of the Year pages

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages now require direct reliable sources for additions. For details see the content guideline, the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide or the edit notice on any DOY page. Almost all new additions without a reliable source as a reference are now being reverted on-sight. In your case, given the respect I have for your experience, I looked for a source I could add in the article to support your addition but could find none (which is why this change in practice was implemented) so I've reverted it.

New articles ready for review

Hello,

Last month you kindly offered to review my new pages. If you have a moment, would you mind looking at Draft:The New Wave in Jazz and Draft:The Copenhagen Tapes? Also, would you happen to know if there's a tutorial or similar page describing how to create articles in the main space? Many thanks for your time and help. Stay well! Helen Puffer Thwait (talk) 11:14, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

@Helen Puffer Thwait: Both published - great work! There are many such tutorials, of varying length and quality, but I am not in a position to recommend one, not having used them. TBH, from the quality of your contributions to date, I doubt they could teach you much. Just create them in your user-space (in your sandbox, or at a subpage like [[User:Helen Puffer Thwait/Example]]), and when you're happy, move them to the proper title. Let me know when you do, if you'd like a second opinion. Stay well yourself, too. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:37, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

Outlines

Your initiative with the opera sidebars in TFD makes me think you might have some insight here. Outlines, I mean, what are they for really? Sure I get the idea, but they're rated as "lists" though – I can't imagine how one would ever become a featured list, in fact there are none that are. Looking around at some of the page views they seem pretty low, Outline of philosophy was an exceptions I found after looking through some, getting ~5k page views per day. However, I suspect if the Philosophy article were FA, it would effectively be an "outline of philosophy..."? There are other considerations like: 1)how do readers even find them? or 2)why won't editors work on them? I didn't even know they existed until a couple of weeks ago. Aza24 (talk) 23:42, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

@Aza24: Apologies; I overlooked your post. In any case, I don't have a view on this. You could try raising the matter on, say, WP:VPM. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 18:43, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

Help With Deciding Whether a Subject is Notable or Not

Hello Mr Andy,

I was contemplating whether or not to create an article about Abbey Murphy, a team USA hockey player. Would she be notable enough to become a part of the large family of numerous Wikipedia articles?

Thank you,

Luke3227 (talk) 14:21, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

@Luke3227: I know nothing about hockey; but the relevant guideline is at Wikipedia:Notability (sports).

"Template:Ghana constituency infobox" listed at Redirects for discussion

A discussion is taking place to address the redirect Template:Ghana constituency infobox. The discussion will occur at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2020 October 28#Template:Ghana constituency infobox until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. TerraCyprus (talk) 23:27, 28 October 2020 (UTC)

I actually don't mind the change you made here, but in the future, please try to avoid editing other user's comments without permission. Thanks. Darkknight2149 02:50, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

Anyone who puts up a comment with a single link-text that is over 2,100 characters long - not to mention one that also includes multiple sections of emboldening - can expect to have it edited for readability any time I, or any sensible editor, sees it. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 08:57, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

13 October

(this day that loosing Br'er began ...) - adding infoboxes to operas as invited, I came across an opera premiered on a 13 October, and an opera with an article written by Meladina who died this year, and first conducted by Zoltán Peskó who died this year. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:27, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

Dona nobis pacem

Thank you for help around templates such as the operas and musical composition! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:41, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

Can you help with that merge, please? - Beautiful Main page today, don't miss the pic by a banned user (of a 2013 play critical of refugee politics), nor a related video, interviews in German, but music and scene. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:02, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

Which merge? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:24, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
