How to create a page[edit]

To download a php page you must have somehow gone for some 'save this page/link/etc.' option from your browser (usually available through right click or some key shortcut). What you should do is - aftr searching for a page - to left-click on the red link (like this), which will take you to an empty page with that title, which you can fill with text (note: creating new pages is disabled for non-logged in editors). Personally I find Wikipedia:Tutorial a useful tool for starting one's adventure with editing Wikipedia - you may want to try that, too. As for my userpage, it looks fine in Mozilla series of browsers, I am suprised it doesn't work with Safari.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:06, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you have some download manager that confuses something within red link treating them as download request? I have never heard of a similar problem before.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 21:14, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A good place to ask others for input may be WP:VPT. They deal with this kind of problems.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 21:33, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right Concentration on the Eightfold Path page[edit]

Hi Morley -

Sorry for not responding sooner but I'm on the road and have limited access to computers (and no access to my Pali Canon texts). The Noble Eightfold Path page could benefit from a significant clean-up and you are correct that the citation for the right concentration blockquote appears to be erroneous. FWIW, in the context of this article, "Bodhi 1998" likely refers to the Access to Insight article at http://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/bodhi/waytoend.html. However, this Bodhi (1998) article actually contains a different translation of the identified text. It's possible that the "Ibid" at the Noble Eightfold Path's endnote 22 is meant to refer to the material identified at endnote 20 — that is, the reference to Bodhi (1998) at endnote 21 was inserted after endnote 22's Ibid was added, thus obviating the association between what is now endnote 22 and endnote 20 (and hence Wikipedia's recommendation that Ibids not be used WP:FN). If this is so, then the translation originally came from one of these Thanissaro articles identified in endnote 20 (with the WP blockquote most closely resembling text in the first translation):

But there's not an exact match that I see. So, it's possible that either the translation comes from yet another source or that it came from one of the above-identified sources but was subsequently modified by a well-meaning WP editor who does not understand how to edit (if at all) quoted material (which is, of course, a recurring WP problem). Regrettably I don't have access to my Bodhi edition of the Samyutta Nikaya (2000, Somerville, MA: Wisdom Publications) at this time — this being the most likely original source of the material outside of those mentioned above. If you'd like me to check this out, let me know (post to my talk page again) and I'll be happy to do so once I return home. FWIW, I suspect that Bodhi (2000) is not the source of this translation as the Pali word translated in the Noble Eightfold Path article as "quite" is translated in Bodhi (1998) as "herein" — but I think Bodhi (like most translators) has changed a few of his translation choices over time so it's always possible. (In general, I suspect Bodhi, 2000's translation will resemble that found in Bodhi, 1998.)

I'm hoping that one of the aforementioned on-line resources might provide you with an alternate (and perhaps more authoritative) translation than that in the WP Noble Eightfold Path article. (Perhaps if I have sometime in the next few weeks I'll try to go by and correct at least this part of the Noble Eightfold Path article — I've tried to limit my incursions into that article give it's high churn level.) Please let me know if there's something further. I wish you peace and happiness, Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 16:37, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Morley -
I put some follow-up information under your most recent append on Talk:Noble Eightfold Path. Hope this helps,

File permission problem with File:Namgyal Rinpoche 1971.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Namgyal Rinpoche 1971.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 18:07, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Stefan2 — Thank you for your concerns about the picture of Namgyal Rinpoche. I understand Wikipedia's concerns about uploading unauthorized pictures, but I find myself baffled by the legal terminologies. It's a dense mesh and frankly find it difficult to navigate your quite complex requirements. I scanned a print given to me (and many others) by the photographer Peter Deutsch (now deceased) shortly after it was taken in the fall of 1970 or early 1971. This picture has been used again and again, but very rarely for publication. To the best of the knowledge of any of his students it has never been protected. It would be characteristic of the man, both the subject and the photographer (both now deceased) to let it be used freely without restrictions. Nevertheless I have initiated enquiries within the spiritual community he established. — Morley
