Sorry, what are you working on at the moment? Somebody keeps adding deletion tags/notability tags to The Decoy (1916 film) when it is clearly notable. Obviously most silent movies of the 1910s have low coverage because there were so many reeled off! Can you put it on your watchlist and stop tags being added to it, it's fine?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:14, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

I've been spending some time with a few early silents, filling in the redlinks for the Lewis Milestone article. While there are editors that somehow and unrealistically expect that a 95-year-old film somehow MUST have the same coverage as recent major blockbusters in order to be notable, they forget WP:NTEMP in that such films where covered by media of their time, even if such coverage is no longer available, and their being part of the history of American film pretty much assures notability. For example, The Decoy (1916 film) was one of the early films from Universal Studios founder Carl Laemmle's Independent Moving Pictures Co. of America and Universal Film Manufacturing Company... entities created by Laemmle to break the Edison hold on the early film industry. Being part of the enduring historical record is enough. We do not toss verifiable history simply because it no longer captures headline. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 17:34, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

re Massage For Relaxation

Michael, someone added a link at the bottom of the page regarding a massage chair that they are trying to sell. Would that constitute "vandalism?" Patty Mooney (talk) 21:45, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

If they were to add defamatory information or otherwise negatively mess with the article, THAT would be vandalism. Adding an "ad" as an external link can be considered as WP:SPAM and removed per WP:ELNO... which I have just done. Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:52, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

What do you think, is it ready? --Ron Ritzman (talk) 03:09, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Hmmm... Film has finally publicaly aired and been the recipent of critical commentary in multiple reliable sources independent of the production, both before and after its now-multiple screenings. As per my own observation at the AFD, the film required additional independent commentary and coverage that would follow in the time following its airing.[1] And while I might suggest though, that more of the available sources be used in order to assuage any who might sttill suggest it fails NF, which it does not, it would be reasonable now that such additional work can be done through regular editing.
The short answer is yes, and barnstars to those who cared enough to improve it. :) Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 03:36, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Improving Korkoro's quality

Hi, if you have time could you have a look into this page, which I created yesterday, and help in this article's receiving a better quality ranking? Thanks in advance.morelMWilliam 09:26, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Nice job. I recommend you create a suitable DYK nomination to get this one on the front page. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:47, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Michael. I didn't know before that I could self nominate for DYK. Missed it for Lenin Raghuvanshi and Riyad Vinci Wadia. I just did that for Korkoro. Am very keen in working more to further improve this article's quality. Also working to turn the red links blue in the template that I created for Tony Gatlif. Is there a way to merge Korkoro with the French version which doesn't have much content? morelMWilliam 05:50, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
A merge is something done to unite two articles within the same Wikipedia. At the top of Wikipedia:Translation, there is the instruction "To request a translation of an English Wikipedia article into another language, click on a sidebar link to do so at the appropriate foreign-language Wikipedia." So, as you wish to expand content in the French Wikipedia, the better option is to request translation at that Wikipedia and then have an editor there expand that article if unable to do so yourself in French. For clarification and assistance, you might post this question at Wikipedia talk:Translation. And too, we currently have a number of editors listed at Category:Translators fr-en that do the French-to-English. No doubt one of them would better know how to do it the other-way-around. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 06:15, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. I just placed a request in the talk pages of two translators as I goofed up with the translation request template in French Wikipedia. morelMWilliam 07:09, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Clifton's Cafeteria Good Article Nom Declined

Michael, I took a flyer by nominating the article you started for GA. Alas, it was declined as not conforming to the manual of style. Such is life in the big city. I thought the article was well-constructed, but then what do I know? Perhaps this will raise its profile among the many editors on enWiki and will ultimately result in improvements leading to a renom and approval. Not that I'm expecting you to do anything, just that I thought you might like to know. Take care, mate. Geoff Who, me? 00:46, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks Geoff. I'm just happy that the article is here to serve our readers. Thanks for keeping the faith. Perhaps User:Puffin might elaborate on his comment to clarify just what needs to be tweaked to fit the MOS. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 01:05, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

I appreciate your restraint

As the husband of a former Writers Guild West member, I understand the sheer vastness of the quantity of folks who have had peripheral roles in The Industry, but don't meet our standards of notability. After looking at your IMDb listing in the wake of the AfD discussion about Kim Lee, I concluded that (unlike me) you come much closer to meeting WP:ENT than some of the folks who manage to pass it; but you've never created or requested an article about yourself. (Maybe somebody should make a userbox: "This editor has an IMDb listing, but is not notable enough to have an article in Wikipedia about them.") --Orange Mike | Talk 19:00, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

There's colorful history about that, a history that both developed and encouraged restraint... and educated me about WIkipedia as well. Such a userbox would be better than some I've seen. :) Thanks. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 19:15, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Regarding Still Small Voice

Hey MichaelQSchmidt

The director of Still Small Voice had another Short Film Release in April 2011 called "Kin". It was played in the cinema here in Auckland for the Premiere. Sources have not come through for this yet as I personally know "Harley Campbell". I say give 'Still Small Voice' a chance. There are not that many sources but I mean "David Joll"..his brother is Steve Joll who worked for the biggest NZ Childrens Show 'What Now' Back in the late 90s. The movie is popular here in Auckland and Whangarei, New Zealand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Filmingnz (talkcontribs) 21:33, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Sources are what's required. I am myself willing to give the article a chance, but with your discussion here, I'll suggest it be moved to a temporary location at User:Filmingnz/Still Small Voice (film) so it can be worked on out of main space. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:38, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

I believe you. I do not doubt the film screened. But I need you to study the page at WP:RS to see how Wikipedia indentifies and determines reliable sources for writing and verifying the information in articles. And as for Youtube... take a look at WP:ELNO, WP:ELMAYBE and WP:ELYES. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 22:00, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
IMDB is okay as a starting point for beginning research, but for various reasons is not considered a reliable source for citing an article. New article, reviews, commentary, books, etc. That's what we need here. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 22:23, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Looks as if is notable? Can you expand?♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:24, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

I agree. News, reviews, and books show meeting WP:ENT and WP:GNG. I will undertake some expansion and sourcing. Have been involved in a few RL projects, including a fun video for Bone Thugs N Harmony (a really nice bunch of fellows). See THIS at Facebook I'm the happy guy in the middle :) Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 20:33, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Your eyes, please...

There are three that need the eyes of someone who has not edited them. The pre-incubated versions had definite problems that I believe have been addressed in at least two of these awaiting assessment, and I have thus set those two's talk page with the assessment template. Hope you might look in, as at least two appear ready to graduate. :) Thanks, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 08:45, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

I've not done a full review on any of them, but did have a quick look to see if they had addressed the issues raised in their AfDs.
  • Wikipedia:Article Incubator/Deeper and Deeper (film) has a list of awards the film has acquired, which looks promising, though in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Deeper and Deeper (film), there was concern raised about lack of reviews which appears to be still the case. There was also concern about the lack of reliable sources dealing significantly with the film, and the article could still be criticised for that, as the sources tend to be the organisations who gave the awards, and these organisations are not notable enough to have Wikipedia articles, bar one. There is a sense of scrapping the bottom of the barrel with references such as this and this. This, however, is a good source, though I'd like to see some reviews. I think the article as it stands is possibly OK, but it's fairly borderline and if it was put back into mainspace it would be worth putting it through AfD again to get some consensus.
  • Wikipedia:Article Incubator/Peter MacDonald (computer programmer) has some sources added since the Prod, though the concern was that "No in-depth coverage of this person appears to exist", and that still appears to be the case. I'm not seeing a clear assertion of notability.
  • Wikipedia:Article Incubator/$30 Film School - this has got problems with the history, and would require a history merge to put back in Kindzmarauli's edit of 17 August 2010 in which he nominated the article for AfD. This article is more promising, though of the two significant cites added since the AfD, one leads to a dead link which I can't find on WayBack.
I don't personally feel confident enough in the articles to put them into mainspace. Someone else may have a different view, so I have left the reviews for someone else. SilkTork ✔Tea time 16:43, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
Definitely appreciate the extra set of eyes. I'll see what else might be done to address the concerns you noted and get back to you for a follow-up. Many thanks. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 18:12, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Michael--I don't know if you're also interested in dancers (well, you like horror, so why not?), but we're working on a formerly problematic article, Louis van Amstel. (Formerly, because the problematic editor is blocked for a while for persistent BLP violations and a case of DIDNTHEARTHAT that became disruptive.) Incubator

How do I transfer an article to the Incubator? The Gangster Squad was created by User:LtMuldoon, who apparently never adds any sources to articles he creates. So I went ahead and sourced it, but filming is not scheduled to start until September (if it does). —Mike Allen 05:37, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

On your talk page. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 01:52, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I didn't know if you had to go through the AFD process or not. I was hoping not, that would be tedious. Going by the user's history all he/she does is copy IMDb data to Wikipedia without any sources, so I doubt they care about the development of the article. Sigh. I was checking Variety and saw that Emma Stone was cast and looked up the article and saw it unsourced and had to save it from going through an unnecessary AFD process. Hopefully filming will start soon. Thanks again Michael. —Mike Allen 02:55, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
As presented at WP:ATD as an alternative to deletion, it should be seen as one of the options we might consider other than jumping to a perhaps unneccessary deletion discussion. Just as discussions are encouraged on talk pages before the "heavier" steps are taken, so should be discussion of an incubation as a non-AFD means of resolution. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 04:20, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
