Women in Red[edit]

Hi there, LWu22, and welcome to Women in Red. It's good to have an enthusiastic student as a new member. I see you have made a number of useful improvements to existing biographies but it would be good to see you create new articles yourself. In this connection you should look through some of our essays, perhaps starting with the Primer. Unless you have individuals in mind, you'll find potential candidates by browsing through our Redlist index. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 08:09, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Ipigott! Thank you for the warm welcome and support to start new pages. Today I created the article on Georgia Lloyd as part of WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/251 Should I note this new page somewhere on the Women in Red page? Also, should I place something more on the Georgia Lloyd talk page regarding categories?
I welcome your and other's support to be the best contributor that I can be. Thank you for welcoming me! LWu22 (talk) 22:08, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. LWu22, for making such a good start on Georgia Lloyd. You'll see I've made some minor edits. Rather than the old WIR-251, I've tagged the talk page WiR-282 in connection with our current focus on women writers and listed the article on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/282. I've added a couple of categories on women but you don't need to add anything more on the talk page. If you click on "What links here" in the LH margin on the article's page, you'll see I have provided links from a number of other articles. While you have chosen good sources, you have grouped all your citations at the end of each section. The purpose of in-line references is to allow readers to check the origin of the information included. I think you should therefore try to use them individually (one or two at a time) to back specific items of information in the text of the biography. For guidance, see for example Bella Abzug. Perhaps you will be able to accomplish this during your next editing session, if not before. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 08:15, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Green GA Editathon October 2023 - Around the World in 31 Days[edit]

Hello LWu22:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

CS1 error on Georgia Lloyd[edit]

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page Georgia Lloyd, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A "bare URL and missing title" error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 21:55, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help me[edit]

Hi, I'm a fairly new student editor, however I have good support from my teacher and peer reviewer and so far have felt quite welcomed on Wikipedia from all of you who have communicated with me. I have tasks of general editing, creating pages, improving pages, and bringing pages to good standing. I chose to focus on women in STEAM and advocacy.

Today I edited two pages and had two things happen that I would like to ask for help and support from more experienced editors. Would you please Help me?

1) I started to edit Grimes and before I could even finish, a flurry of activity happened on that article and talk page including editor fighting and reverting (not with me, but amongst others) and at some point through that my good faith edits were erased. I really don't think they should have been. Will an experienced editor take a look at that page and give me your feedback, and also advise if I should even try to go back there and edit any more?
2) There was a template tag on Amy Karle, I read about it and followed the information to improve the page and remove the tag. I did significant editing, re-writing a large part of the article. Nonetheless the tag was quickly revered without much feedback. (It seems they may not have thoroughly reviewed my work before re-adding the tag?) I engaged a dialogue on the talk page about it. Will a more experienced editor please review that article and make edits and give advice on anything else that needs to be done to remove the tags? Both my teacher and peer reviewer think the tags seem better suited for the talk page than the main page at this point. What do you think? If you think I made the appropriate changes please remove the tag.

Maybe this was just a weird day.

Hi there!
  1. It's not obvious to me if the reversions that occurred on Grimes were related to your edits. I'm glad you asked at Talk:Grimes, and suggest you invite Battenintokyo to the discussion (see Help:Notifications). — Preceding unsigned comment added by GoingBatty (talkcontribs) 03:29, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  2. I'm glad you also used Talk:Amy Karle to explain why you removed the maintenance templates, and that you notified the user that reverted you. Please be patient - it may take a while them to reply. I don't understand why in this edit you removed the maintenance templates a second time and replaced them with {{}}.
Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 02:54, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On the Grimes article, you collided with an individual who was subsequently blocked for edit warring. That happens sometimes. You should feel free to go back and work on the page again.
The Amy Karle article has been through some troubles by other editors, as you've seen on the talk page. A COI tag should usually only be removed by consensus, not on your sole judgment.
Maintenance tags are calls for help in improving the article, they are not black marks that have to be eliminated as soon as possible.
Aiming to be an advocate on Wikipedia can run you into collisions with other editors. There's a way to do it that stays within policy; mostly it requires that you learn the notability criteria and how to identify good sources.
Now, about the use of {{help}} templates. They are not to be used to ask for help with content - that's something that nearly every article needs and it should be done in discussions on the articles' talk pages. If a message on a talk page does not seem to be getting any attention, or you think you need more eyes on it, the next thing to do is to ask - in as neutral a fashion as possible - at the talk page of one of the WikiProjects listed at the top of the article's talk page. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 03:20, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you all for your feedback. It seems I was caught in the crossfire on both pages. In both cases my time and effort trying to make good faith edits was overrun due to the drama surrounding the pages and issues before I arrived. There was also some heavy questioning and weird feeling accusations made towards me on a certain page that were now removed. They weren't true but it was enough to chase me away from wiki editing for a while. I had mid terms to focus on anyway.
I take all of your kindness and suggestions into consideration and am back and will try again, especially around events and edit-a-thons where I feel welcomed. Thank you for your support and not biting the newcomer!
If I left a {{}} that was an error.

Grimes[edit]

I'm not sure if you saw my message on Talk:Grimes, but I restored most of your revisions in the personal life section of Grimes. Right now it's a mix of your revision and the way was before your revision. Thank you for your help with improving the article. Bowling is life (talk) 12:48, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
