Proposed deletion of Donald P. Borchers[edit]

The article Donald P. Borchers has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

re:COI - (this is the same content as the response I posted below, I'm adding it here in case it is needed here instead)
After reading a bit on WP COI information, I believe that I have a bias and an appearance of COI. I am not employed by Big Rock Creative, but I am a fan and I do try to volunteer for events. Volunteering is very normal part of interaction in the greater Burning Man community, and does not give me any significant connection. I know Athena, as does nearly everyone in the Los Angeles area Burning Man community since she has been a community leader for many years, and actively engages new-comers in education about community principles. I reached out to Athena when I decided to attempt this writing, to ask her for information about BRCvr. I received some promotional text and links to many articles. I began my writing with a neutral sounding couple of paragraphs, and I see now that I diverged from that tone along the way. Krista404 (talk) 15:30, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Big Rock Creative for deletion[edit]

This article turned out to be more complicated than I anticipated when I got the inspiration to start. I have some idea of how to fix the issues that have been pointed out, but I'd really like to ask a more experienced writer. Would you be willing? Hi Krista404 — thanks for your messages. You're always welcome to ask for help, and I'll do what I can to assist. (And anywhere is 'the right place', as long as you ping me like you did; unless it's on my own talk page, in which case I get alerted automatically.) As you will have seen from the tags and the AfD comments, the biggest problem with this article is the apparent lack of notability: the sources cited don't even mention the company, let alone provide the significant coverage that WP:GNG notability requires. If you want to save the article — and truth be known, time is getting tight — that's what you need to attend to first and foremost; anything else, like the promotional nature, is secondary. Now TBH, I expect that a company that's only been in business for less than a year will almost by definition struggle on that front, but perhaps you think otherwise. re: suitability for inclusion and my intent with this effort - There are a few interrelated topics that I'd like to document. These topics don't fit well all together on one page, so I started breaking them apart. Big Rock Creative was the first of these few that I put up. Burning Man is a widely known event. Wikipedia's article about Burning Man states that it was cancelled for 2020, and 2021. This is not quite true. Like nearly everything else in 2020, Burning Man morphed into virtual platforms. I don't think it is appropriate to document these virtual platforms on the main Burning Man page, however it is misleading and false to simply say Burning Man was cancelled for these two years. Burning Man is selling tickets for this year's virtual events, and it organized last year's events (even though they were mostly free). The list of virtual platforms chosen for 2020 and 2021 are similar, but not completely the same. I don't think one long page documenting all the virtual Burning Man platforms is a good fit, but I did consider it. Instead, the best would be a few pages for the more notable platforms. These can be linked to the main Burning Man page for clarity and accuracy. (I began that link for 2020). I have participated on three of these platforms. BRCvr in AltspaceVR was by far the most interactive and achieved the most involvement of the participants in creating community - as is customary in the Burning Man community and events. This is a significant effort/achievement in an otherwise (perceived?) male dominated "gaming" world of virtual reality. BRCvr was created by Big Rock Creative team, and it's easy to confuse the two topics as one. But again, they may be better as separate articles. When I found out that Big Rock Creative was winning industry recognition, that is noteworthy but it is not directly related to BRCvr. Thus, I began my effort by writing about Big Rock Creative because I hoped it would be the simplest and shortest to write ... get some feedback ... and then continue with better focus.

I knew the Big Rock Creative article wasn't in the right form when I published it, but I didn't want to get stuck in draft form forever. And I wanted to be able to find guidance. (I am generally shy, and have more experience with technical document writing, so this is a bit of a fun challenge stretch for me).

Hi, and sorry I've only just seen your comments. It looks like this article will be deleted soon, but don't be too downhearted, these things happen. FWIW, articles on companies and products are probably the trickiest to write in many ways, because even if you manage to maintain a neutral tone with no promotional etc. slant, reviewers are often (rightly, IMO) skeptical about such subject matter and tend to want to see particularly clear and strong evidence of notability, to avoid Wikipedia being used as a marketing channel. So in that sense, with this article you jumped straight into not just the deep end of a pool, but a shark-infested one at that. :) Onwards and upwards!
