Creating pages by copying other sites[edit]

You're clearly violating the rules on copyright infringement with many if not all of your new species pages. You need to stop creating new ones now, and either go back and rewrite them from scratch with broadly useful encyclopedic knowledge (the information you're giving is of use only to biologists) that does not copy directly from your sources or have them deleted. —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 17:44, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, didn't notice the lack of copyright on the linked page. That said, the material on the linked page is nigh unto useless for a general knowledge encyclopedia. It includes too little context to be useful to anyone but a biologist. —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 17:46, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Myrmoteras[edit]

All the descriptions of new species (aka new discoveries) are all we know about them at the very moment. There is nothing more that can be added at the moment, other than rewrite what is published and now available on this page. There is always a great interest in the discovery of new species in the public, that is, however, not so much aware of at what rate this occurs. Every single species is part of our global heritage and thus deserves a place in Wikipedia. Wikipedians will certainly contribute substantially to the knowledge of many of the very creatures we know so little about by refining the pages in the future.

Sorry, OK, got it[edit]

{{unblock|I am sorry I mistook the reason I was blocked. I am not a role used by multiple people, but a genuine individual working for Plazi, namely the main programmer and systems administrator. This is why I am the one to create the atricles. I am reachable through the mail address given at the bottom of my user page. If you need any further proof, I will happily provide the URL of my staff page at University of Karlsruhe, my employer. Please let me know how to avoid such misunderstandings in the future.}}

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Assuming good faith, this account (despite infelicitious phrasing) is in fact being used solely by a single human being; and he now understands our prohibitions on role accounts, conflict of interest/spamlinking, and copyright.

I am not working for Plazi but know Gsautter in person. He asked me to confirm that he is a real person editing in his own interest of improving biodiversity knowledge. This reason is shared by several people at Plazi, non-profit organisation. Looking at his edits, I do not think he has ever shared the account details with any other person. Thus the blocking reason is not valid and I would like to second his request to be unblocked. --G.Hagedorn (talk) 18:24, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions[edit]

Now that you have been unblocked, I would like to point out a couple of areas of Wikipedia that you need to be familiar with. First, while I think that your contributions are very worthwhile, you should probably be working with some of the other editors making similar contributions. A good place to start is with one of our WikiProjects, in particular, one of the "Tree of Life"-related projects. Secondly, you need to be aware of our policies about automated editing before you continue your work. Editors are generally prohibited from making automated edits with prior approval. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talkpage. Cheers —DoRD (?) (talk) 16:59, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Pheidole simplispinosa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Ant articles[edit]

Those articles are very hard to understand and are too technical for Wikipedia. They don't follow WP:MOS. I (or someone else) will probably have to trim them down to the basics. Feel free to add back content, but it has to be properly sourced and rewritten so that a broad audience can understand it. Regards, PDCook (talk) 23:29, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to check out WP:Writing your first article. PDCook (talk) 23:31, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

discussion of plazi.org uploads[edit]

Don't know if you saw Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biology#Direct copies of species descriptions from external website but if you are thinking of resuming your contributions of text from Plazi, I would suggest that you participate in that discussion.
