Negative energy Deletion

Hello, im the drummer in the band "negative energy" and was shocked to see that our page was deleted. Being that i'm young (not twelve, but still saw your comment about them), i don't want to be "That Guy" who sounds like he's attacking you for it, i'm just wondering what we did wrong and how we can fix it so we can revive the article. (p.s take this however you like, compliment or dis, but you have a very long list of deletions :-o) 172.162.51.193 (talk) 01:59, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

User Info Question

Hi there. Since you seem to know a lot of the basics of wikipedia, I'm wondering if you can clear something up for me. I know that notability and credibility are huge parts of wikipedia, so to make sure I am a completely transparent user, I disclosed that I am an employee of the Cancer Research Institute and gave my contact information there. Have I done this correctly? Is there any information or statements that I should add or remove? I want to make sure that I can make factual changes to pages in the realm of cancer immunology without seeming like I have personal interests involved and staying neutral. Thanks for the advice. --CancerResearchInstitute (talk) 14:43, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

I was actually thinking the same thing about the possibility of a future job change. I think I may go for a personal change rather than add Employee to my current user name.--CancerResearchInstitute (talk) 22:04, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Restored Agropedia

Hi Dragonfly, I've restored the article Agropedia that you deleted, because I can't find any evidence that it's a copyright violation. Feel free to nominate it for deletion if you want to. Dcoetzee 21:55, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

I've now also restored the article US Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) that you deleted, also because I couldn't find any evidence that it was a copyright violation. Some parts like the faculty list appear to be copied from elsewhere but I'm not convinced the entire article was, even if it's not formatted like a standard entry. Feel free to nominate it for deletion or point me to any sources you might have access to that I don't. Dcoetzee 22:04, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

I've restored the article US Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) that you deleted, again, because, despite problems with tone and syntax, it clearly is written in the form of an article, contrary to your deletion summary. If you really don't want it around, I suggest you nominate it for articles for deletion. Dcoetzee 02:21, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the info on the negative energy deletion thing. Unless one of the other guys tries remaking it, im not sure you'll be seeing it up again. With luck it'll be up in a few years when we top the charts! it could happen. But until then, thanks for the info and I'll be sure to use DragonFlySixtySeven for all my future Admin. needs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.163.155.207 (talk) 22:45, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Isconova

Hi, I wonder why "Isconova" was deleted ? What can I change before I Add the article again without risking a deletion? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Isconova (talkcontribs) 13:14, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

It was deleted because it had been (or very very much looked like it had been) copied from a pre-existing corporate website. It felt promotional. If you can write an article about the company from scratch, using neutral language, and complying with the style recommendations in WP:LEAD, that will probably be good. DS (talk) 14:44, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Dragonfly: I find the claim of "apparent copyvio" highly questionable, considering that you have not provided a source material and the very first edit included a variety of wiki syntax. I'm going to restore this article unless you provide a different reason that it should have been deleted - and "it felt promotional" isn't a good enough reason. Dcoetzee 21:05, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
It's g11 and was deleted as g12. If it were undeleted, it would likely be re-deleted as g11. DRV is thatta way if you believe that df67 was in error. --slakrtalk / 22:14, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
(e/c)Most of it seems to be copied from here (one click away from the only link in the article) and the links in the sidebar of that page. It took me about 10 seconds to find that. In any case, the article is pretty blatantly advertising copy and short of a bunch of buzzwords like "Differentiated by its outstanding innovative technology" makes almost no assertion of notability. It was also created by a user with the same username as the company. None of this raises any red flags for you? This deletion was absolutely correct IMO. Mr.Z-man 22:18, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
I'd add criterion A7 to the mix - an article about an organisation that "does not indicate why its subject is important or significant." Despite this, the article cited no references to assert notability or verifiability. Without these, it will likely be deleted via the Articles for Deletion process even if it does not fall under speedy deletion. Hope this helps, Gazimoff 22:53, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Ah, you're right, Z-Man, I didn't spot that page (and it isn't indexed on Google). As for being advertisement, the forthright name of the user was in compliance of WP:COI - the tone of the article may have been a problem, but I don't think it's a valid G11 (it could have been edited into shape without being "fundamentally rewritten"). It was also not a valid A7 because it made clear claims of importance, such as "[b]road endorsement of ISCOM technology by well-reputed vaccine manufacturers; 8 license deals and 4 veterinary products marketed." But unless Isconova explicitly licenses the material from their webpage, it can't be used as the basis for an article, and I will accept the deletion on that basis. Dcoetzee 02:27, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
If the tone of the entire article is promotional, it would need an entire rewrite to be salvageable. Once you remove the meaningless buzzwords and marketing-speak, you're left with a list of board members and some random facts. The article in its last form was not remotely close to an encyclopedia article. Mr.Z-man 07:29, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Gazimoff, and other experienced Wikipedia users. Please let me know what I need to do with this article before I upload it again. Gazimoff stated: "Unless Isconova explicitly licenses the material from their webpage, it can't be used as the basis for an article," How do I proove that I explictly licence the material from the company webpage ? The material in the written Isconova article was written by me, and yes, I used the presentation here as a base for the Article, but i did not "copy-paste" it and if you read the material once more, you´ll understand that its very diffrent from the original text. I have permission from the Company (Isconova) so please let me know jpw I can proove this. I did not have any marketing intentions when writing this article. The intentions is to have fundamental information about Isconova available on Wikipedia.I would appritiate some detailed assistance in this matter since I´m very new and unexperienced when it comes to editing/publishing material on Wikipedia. Please let me know what to do. Isconova 09:30, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
See Wikipedia:Donating_copyrighted_materials#Granting_us_permission_to_copy_material_already_online. In short, you have to contact your company's legal department, who will then either have to place a suitable GFDL license statement on the webpages you use as source material, or send a GFDL permission letter to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. Once you've done this you can use as much of this material as you like in the article. If this were done I would restore and help clean up the original article. Dcoetzee 09:43, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
OK, all set now. I´m awaiting your reply/assistance. Many thanks. Isconova 14:33, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Notability of Baby Fae

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Baby Fae, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Baby Fae seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Baby Fae, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Deletion of The 2904

Was wondering why the page The 2904 was deleted, and how it is not notable. It has the same history and content as similar events such as The 24 Hours of Lemons, and it just had a 7 page article in Top Gear magazine with a subscription base of over 1.8 million in the UK and 22 editions worldwide. Deletion of Alpha Phi Gamma

I'd like to know why this page was deleted? There are over 50 other Greek organizations with pages on wikipedia. The page followed the same patterns as the other greek organizations (alpha kappa kappa, alpha phi alpha, alpha kappa delta phi, etc) describing the history of the organization, their locations and the types of community service they participate in. Alpha Phi Gamma is the same type of organization as any other Greek organization that currently exists. The links from these organizations all lead to external links related to their organization's websites. It seems out of pattern that the page for Alpha Phi Gamma cannot exist when there are others already posted. Aphigarchives (talk)

just passing by, but the usual practice is that if they are at only one or a few colleges--as is the case here-- they get deleted. Only the actually national ones are kept; this is exactly the same os for other types of organizations, per WP:ORG. DGG (talk) 05:30, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Alpha Phi Gamma is located at 9 different universities at present and growing. Each of the Universities Alpha Phi Gamma is a part of has it listed as a Greek organization. You can refer to University of Missouri's greek page listed on Wikipedia for confirmation of theirs ("MU Greek Life"). By greek standards, an organization is considered national when there are a minimum of 7 locations. There are quite a few greek organizations that are smaller than Alpha Phi Gamma that have their own pages. All are listed as Greek organizations on at least two or three other pages within wikipedia itself ("List of social fraternities and sororities"). Alpha Phi Gamma is also part of the National Asian Pacific Islander American Panhellenic Association(NAPA). Aphigarchives (talk)

Deletion of Electromagnetic Fields Recorded in Mesocyclones

I loaded Electromagnetic Fields Recorded in Mesocyclones which has plenty of references and the copy is transferable as per The National Weather Digest policy. It has been inserted in many other online encyclopedias as well. It was accepted into the National Weather Digest upon a two year peer review. I was editing it in my spare time to fit Wikipedia's criteria online and was hoping others would come online to help contribute. If you wanted a perfect copy up in the first place, then why do you allow any just Tom, Dick, and Harry to edit all existing articles and to place any random text up? Electromagnetic Fields Recorded in Mesocyclones has merit. Instead of simply "Deleting", could you not find it within your "Expert" writing field to help fine tune or even help to make recommendations to get this fixed as per Wikipedias criteria? Your profile seems to be extensive in helping others get their papers accepted. User talk:Richard Heene Richard Heene (talk) 15:34, 29 January 2009 (UTC) January 28, 2009

Proposed deletion of Philippe Dubois

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Philippe Dubois, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Not notable.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. You have deleted this article with the rationale "wrong language." Actually, it was listed at WP:PNT and not slated for prod before next Tuesday. (It will probably end up being prodded by then, so I'm not sure it's worth the trouble of restoring.) Just a reminder that CSD A2 only applies if the article is a copy of an article that already exists in a foreign-language Wikipedia, which doesn't seem to be the case here. -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 00:28, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Restored articles

I have restored the following articles that you deleted.

My reasons are described in the restore summaries, and I invite you to nominate any of them for AfD if you like. I caution you against deleting user talk pages containing recent warnings, as well as to refrain from making decisions of notability unilaterally. Remember that categories can also provide context, even in articles with no introduction. I also remind you to use the speedy deletion dropdown more often; most of your deletion summaries are too brief and may confuse or mislead new contributors. The reasons in the speedy deletion dropdown include helpful explanatory links. Dcoetzee 05:34, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

I apologize for restoring those two user talk pages - I checked the block log incorrectly and didn't see that they were blocked. Those were correct deletions. I want to emphasize that I have nothing against you and I would have consulted you prior to making any of these restorations if I thought you would answer. I don't know why you ignore me but I really just want to help avoid getting good articles like US Geospatial Intelligence Foundation deleted. Please let me know how you would like me to treat these cases. Dcoetzee 21:41, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Heya, thanks for the work. One thing; judgement is judgement, not judgment; see this for example. Ironholds (talk) 09:13, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

from the very source you quote, Ironholds: "in Great Britain and many of its former colonies, “judgement” is still the correct spelling" Wikipedia is international -- but Birkett is British, so articles about him should be written in British English, not American English .(International topics are written in whatever version they're started in.) Marysville

I did look carefully at what you changed and I rather resent your claim that I did not. Your edit still remains inappropriate with claims like this "Marysville depended heavily on tourism" (my bolding) and removal of "During the snow season, the population of the town may double or even triple, due to the influx of other hospitality and tourism caterers, such as ski hire, toboggan hire, chain hire, and many other profitable ventures associated with snowplay and skiing." Tourism will take a hit but will continue; the town is still at the foot of the Lake Mountain ski resort and when the eucalypts regenerate (which they do remarkably quicky, being well adapted to a fire prone area) the area will regain its natural beauty.

This desire to write off the town and its industry less than a week after the fire is unseemly and quite frankly original research. Where is your evidence that Marysville will no longer rely on tourism? Do you even know which resorts and caravan parks have been destroyed? If you do you know more than most of the media in Aust. who have had limited access to the site. I am reverting again and suggest that everyone takes a break before deciding that whole industries are in the past. -- Mattinbgn\talk 01:15, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

This is a start on monitoring who is doing the patrolling. It reports the stats of the last completed day according to GMT. The link to the log will not always be accurate because the stats exclude automatic patrolled pages, however they always appear in the log. To limit the impact of that design limitation of this hack, the log link takes the reader to "number of manually approved pages + 1" so the reader should expect an additional log entry from a prior day. Compsci, DWITE - Not notable?

Hi I'm not sure why you removed the DWITE page especially because that contact has been going on well before the owners at compsci.ca took over - it was and still is recognized among many high schools, how is it that once the owners of compsci.ca took over, it became "not notable"?

As well, if you search the web for help on Turing, you mind find your self constantly being referred to compsci.ca - why? Because its probably the largest (only?) site that provides support for Turing (programming language), that its self should make it notable.

Under what basis do you deem these pages "not notable" ?

Amailer (talk)

Well, firstly, I'm going to say that I have no idea which article this was. I'd need the exact name to be able to answer. Secondly, I don't delete things as "not notable", I delete them as "notability not asserted". The problem is not with the topic, but with the article. DS (talk) 21:21, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Sorry I missed the message on IRC;

The article is fine, for a stub. I fixed up some links and made the refs better. I'm not sure if 'addend' should wikilink to addition, or would a wiktionary be more appropriate?

Personal preference, I don't like "" too much, so I wouldn't bother putting "addend" and the other one in quotes. I think wikilink highlight is sufficient; I only use quotes for quoting. But I know others do.

I found 2 pages that mentioned him, so put links into them; Zenzizenzizenzic and Exponentiation. edit - they already were links --  Chzz  ►  06:32, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Sure

Yesterday, I noticed the very long list of old comments attached to my user name. Mostly, things to people who don't seem to be on Wikipedia anymore or on comment pages that are no longer relevent to the articles. With no forethought of malice I started removing some of these old comments. I didn't know this is not allowed, why should I not be able to remove a comment from 2004 concerning a photograph on a page that doesn't even have a photograph anymore? Another thing that I removed was an outrageous accusation that I knew nothing about until yesterday which accused me of switching a picture of Cardinal Law with another photo. Most likely what happened is that I loaded a picture of Law and someone else loaded a picture using the same jpg name that I did so the photo changed. Anyway, Spock's father puts all those edits back claiming I couldn't do that. Then he starts following my other edits and reverting some of them. He changed the references on a page that had exactly four references. He changed with the 1. abc and 2 ab, which I find confusing and I did not find necessary on a page with four ref. When I changed it he started an edit war. He added back two labels for orphaned articles that I had removed because there were links to the pages. He then voted on another page that I voted to keep so he voted to delete, on things I never had seen him interested in before. I know that he is deliberately doing this to get me into an edit war and such because I have had experience with him and Blueboar before over some articles and my userpage. I'm tired of this type of behavior. Anyway, I don't plan on biting, but I don't plan on letting him push me around either, trying to speak reason to him and let him know that his behavior is that of a troll, he can feign ignorance if he likes, but he knows exectly what he's been doing. Anyway, take it easy. Dwain (talk) 21:47, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

I thought of making it read "Following months of economic uncertainty, Ireland's Taoiseach, Brian Cowen is pictured in a compromising position", but you went way bolder than my imagination. Thank you.

Old Croatian Sighthound

Could you please explain why this entry was deleted (without prior warning) and why there is apparently no deletion log available. It simply disappeared off my 'watch list'! I would like to see some remnant of this page recorded, edited or not. It is seldom that we get confirmation, of a presumed lost rare-breed, from a scientific and published source. Record and reasons please, thank you--Richard Hawkins (talk) 01:31, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

What do you mean, no deletion log available? How do you think you found out who deleted the article?

You found out by looking at the deletion log. The deletion log does not provide access to the deleted content (unless you are an admin); it only tells you what was deleted, who deleted it, when it was deleted, and why -- in your case, it was because you copied (most of) the article out of Revue de Médecine Véterinaire. "Copyvio" means "violation of copyright".

You are welcome to write a fresh article about the Croatian Sighthound, and you can use RdMV as a source of information... but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. DS (talk) 02:20, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

That was a direct "quote" from a scientific journal, gained by personal correspondence with one of the the authors. No copyright violation whatsoever! It would show some discretion, and courtesy, on your side if you would signal a proposal to delete, with reasons why, which could be discussed or remedied without all the material now being lost to me. I would prefer a direct quote with attribution, instead of a form of plagiarism. Please retrieve and supply the original page text, if only to me personally. Thank you--Richard Hawkins (talk) 12:39, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Okay, go here, and rewrite it so that less of the article consists of direct quotes. Let me know when you think it's ready, and I'll move it back into mainspace. Sorry for the inconvenience — some users just don't understand why they can't copy-and-paste content verbatim from commercial sources, so we-the-admins tend to use a "delete first, ask questions later" policy with copyvio. Since I'm not an advanced editor, am I able to "warn" Matty Duh Renzo about his continual vandalism to this article? I'm sure this guy was always the "non-user" making these same edits. And I also welcome you to help me out on improving a very important article to the arthropod project, Insects, as you can see I did a lot a work, but it still needs help; the suggestions were made, stated here:
  • The lead currently isn't a summary of the article... see Wikipedia:Lead_section; make sure everything in the lead is discussed in the article itself: i.e., the etymology of entomology should also be in the article text; all of the specific stats about size and extremes need to be in the main text as well.
  • There are several 1- or 2-sentence "paragraphs" that should either be expanded or combined in some way.
  • The external links section could use a trim and copyedit
  • The references should be reorganized into Footnotes" and "references", and often-used sources listed in the Reference section (thinking specifically of the Gullan, P.J.; P.S. Cranston (2005) reference); see the MOS for more details; would also suggest trimming down the "Further reading" section, and instead incorporating some of those as cited sources.

And when it is done, I am hoping that I can get my first promoted article to GA status. Bugboy52.4 (talk) 15:17, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Who can help with inserting images into an article?

I have just about used up an entire tree (!) printing out how-to's about images, but I'm clearly overlooking a crucial step in the process. I have uploaded a picture from my computer ---entitled "Small_sonometer_colored.jgp. And I have done (I think) the requisite things to show that it's a 17th-century engraving in the public domain, touched up with a few colors by me. I saw the image, etc, and all the information... But on the page I am working on --- entitled: "Sonomètre of Loulié" --- I clearly am not inserting the right information. I have put "

Loulié's sonomètre, 1699

in the page where I want to place the image. I also put {{PD-old}}. BUt all I get is the "Public Domain" message and, at the right, the name of the image file, in small letters. If I click it, I get the image, of course, which I presume is at Wiki Commons? BUT: what on earth do I do to import that image into the page? Do I do it in the edit window of the page I'm creating? Or do I do it by going into Wiki Commons? And what HELP page can I print out with the requisite information, for future reference??? I've rarely been so confused! Thanks in advance, Patricia M. Ranum (talk) 17:54, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

HEAVENS! There are my items on your discussion page! so I did something right, but WHAT?? And obviously I did it in the wrong place! Patricia M. Ranum (talk) 18:01, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for replying so quickly. I know the tag should be "{{PD-old}}" but I'm not sure where to insert it. After the File....?? Somewhere on the page where you can see the photo in Wiki Commons... but if so, where on that page?? Nothing that I can figure out permits me to insert {{PD-old}} somewhere. Patricia M. Ranum (talk) 18:41, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
And do those big "Public Domain" signs remain??? THere must be some clearer way to do things? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ranumspa (talkcontribs) 18:43, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Speedy (!) Deletion of article about Classical Pianist Orion Weiss

Dear DragonflySixtySeven,

Yes, you are right that the article (which took me many many hours to write) is about someone near and dear to me.

However it is completely documented and verifiable, if you check the links and references. Orion Weiss has achieved everything indicated in the primary references to newspaper articles. He has two CD's for sale on Amazon.com.

His accomplishments are every bit as interesting and important as many other pianists with Wiki pages that have not been deleted--Jonathan Biss, or David Fong for example.

This is my first attempt to write something in Wikipedia. After I created the page on my registered page I could not figure out how to separate the page from the place I created it when I redirected it.

I think the Orion Weiss entry can stand alone. If necessary, perhaps someone else can post it so it is no longer connected to my wikipedia page.

Please advise how to proceed. This article DOES belong in wikipedia.

Thanks for your attention and thoughts.

Misunderstanding continues on my part

Thanks for your answer dragonfly. Sorry about your electricity. I am pleased that the entry was not deleted, which was my original misunderstanding. The problem I continue to see is as follows: When I search Google, for "Orion Weiss Wikipedia", I come up with "User-MiriamWeiss - Wikipedia" That page of course has been deleted. At present there seems to be no way to find the "Orion Weiss Wikipedia" entry using a google search. I CAN find it by searching within Wikipedia. Also the "Orion Weiss" Wikipedia article can only be opened through a link, such as the "List of classical pianists".

I would like to know how to erase "User-MiriamWeiss - Wikipedia" from Wikipedia or Google, and have a search for "Orion Weiss" list the wiki article directly. Is that possible? What must I do? Miriam F Weiss (talk) 76.241.103.144 (talk) 21:00, 6 May 2009 (UTC)MiriamWeiss

Commons

Dear Sfan and DS- Thanks for the responses. I understand Commons full well, and the reasons people give for transferring files to it. What I object to is the different ways commons files are treated; especially the deletion without notification. In WP it is pro-forma that if a file is proposed for deletion the original contributor is informed and can at least have a chance at salvaging it. This has happened a few times, mostly to images of no consequence, but the one incident that pushed me over the edge was the deletion of Giant_ground_sloth_Iowa.JPG This image was used on about 10 Wikipedia pages, including Mammals, sloth, Geology of Iowa, Iowa Museum of Natural History, and several Pleistocene pages. Wikimedia User:FunkMonk deleted it because he felt it did not have adequate copyright release. If he had bothered to inform me of this decision, it would have been a very easy thing for me to fix- I work closely with the museum that owns the model in question, and their directors were happy to see the image on line. However, I did not hear about this until after it had been deleted from every Wikipedia page. Compounding my frustration was a number of spurious copyright challenges on Wikipedia, the most annoying of which was Robert Longo Sleep 84.jpg (you can read that debate for yourself). In looking at similar images that were not so tagged, it has become clear to me that there is no consistent application of copyright. Another big problem is that any editor can nominate any image for deletion for any reason, and the burden is placed on the contributor to defend the image, and if no defense is given, the image is deleted. While most claims of copyright problems are in good faith, I began to feel that for some claiming a copyright violation is a very effective form of vandalism. Defending an image from a copyright claim takes a lot of work, more work than it took to create and upload the image. With my frustrations mounting, I decided to get out of the game. There a several articles that I still keep tabs on and want to improve, but my days of uploading images are over. Thank you, Bill Whittaker (talk) 18:23, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

(See my talk page for your message). I admit careless choice of my username (didn't think I'll become a dedicated wikipedian then). I do stand by my word in general, and in particular, declare than noone else used my account; but I definitely need a long-term solution for my naming. My RfA

Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record.
I recognise that the process itself was unusual, and the format was generally considered questionable - and I accept that I was mistaken in my perception of how it would be received - but I am particularly grateful for those whose opposes and neutrals were based in perceptions of how I was not performing to the standards expected of an administrator. As much as the support I received, those comments are hopefully going to allow me to be a better contributor to the project. Thank you. Very much. LessHeard vanU (talk) 14:57, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

undelete or suggest alternatives for Books test pages

Hi. Please could you undelete the pages User:84user/Books/Test2 and User:84user/Books/Test3? Or else suggest where they should go instead? Maybe a Wikipedia namespace? I may have forgotten to put them in the Category:Wikipedia:Books for Testing Purposes where they belong. They are both cited indirectly in a bug report I made at http://code.pediapress.com/wiki/ticket/505#comment:1, and directly linked from Help:Books/Feedback/Archives/2009/March#Images_quality_and_GIF_animations and Help:Books/Feedback/Archives/2009/March#Bug:_image_quality_is_lost_due_to_downscaling_in_generated_PDF. As far as I am aware they reproduce a bug that has not yet been fixed. 84user (talk) 04:26, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

I noticed that you deleted the talk page of Stansfield as "unnecessary". The article is correct to WP:England and I was going to tag it with that Wikiproject until I saw that it had been deleted. Leslie B. Vosshall article you deleted

Can you please bring it back?

Dr. Vosshall is a renowned scientist in the field of neurobiology & olfaction. She is an HHMI investigator and here is her profile.

http://www.hhmi.org/news/vosshall_bio.html

These are her other career accomplishments: In 2005, Dr. Vosshall received the New York City Mayor’s Young Investigator Award for Excellence in Science and Technology and the Irma T. Hirschl/Monique Weill-Caulier Trust Research Award. She was named a John Merck Fund Fellow and received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2002. In 2001, Dr. Vosshall was named a Beckman Foundation Young Investigator and received a McKnight Neuroscience Scholar Award and a National Science Foundation CAREER Award.

If you still do not think she does not deserve her own page, I can probably find many other scientists within my own field who don't deserve their own pages either so you can delete them (and I don't neceessarily disagree with increasing the baseline anonymity required for a scientist to get his own page). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Seunghwane (talkcontribs) 15:19, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

ODAT

Hi DS, been a while. My friend works for www.backcountry.com and asked me for advise about what to do with a page they created for ODAT http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ODAT . I had advised my friends "subordinate" to work from an existing page and to move slowly asking for permission to expand. They had asked me to post it outright and I suggested that they have an intern do it first following Wikipedia guidelines. As a consultant I will not take money for editing Wikipedia; however, as my close friend has asked a personal favor to devote my time and energy I am willing to assist them without compensation if they donate to Wikipedia.

Is this acceptable? I wouldn't expect you or anyone to bend rules or make exceptions, my friend has only asked me to help keep backcountry.com from being blacklisted.

If I am out of bounds, would you help the person who put up the ODAT page to do the right thing?

Thanks, Pete --Petebertine (talk) 23:00, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Blood of Angels infobox for Michelle Belanger article

It seems there is a dispute over if this should should be included in the main article. Ebonyskye started a discussion on the talk page (Talk:Michelle_Belanger#Merging_album_page) including that editors reasoning for including it, which you might not has seen prior your recent edit. Might I suggest the inclusion or removal of the infobox be discussed? I've requested SilkTork, the admin Ebonyskye references, to participate in the discussion as well.

While I appreciate the boldness actions, I feel that further discussion might be in order before the issue becomes heated or potentially a matter of editor ego. Thank you.--SiIIyLiIIyPiIIy (talk) 20:26, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Admin Silktork gave me the ultimatum to merge the album page or have it removed see last couple paragraphs on talk. As such the album template must remain. Please, before you remove it again, enter into the current discussion. Ebonyskye (talk) 05:10, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

I am curious as to a couple of your edits on the Michelle Belanger article. You have protected it against anons, yet I have checked, and there was no vandalism. I have requested an unprotect. I would do it myself, but I thought it appropriate to get a second opinion. Also, there was no statement that the album infobox should not be included in the article when I closed the AfD. Indeed, these album templates are frequently used in sections of articles, such as Repo_Man_(film)#Soundtrack. Regards SilkTork *YES! 07:57, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

The article is not being vandalized. However, it is getting a lot of spam inserted in it by anons who are, one suspects, closely affiliated with the subject of the article.

Lots of self-promotional stuff. Lots of stuff about the article subject's self-published/vanity-press material. Stuff that has to be repeatedly excised from the article.

Thus it's semi-protected. DS (talk) 21:22, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Two IP accounts have edited the article. 173.88.195.71 made this edit, which remains in the article. The other IP is 208.125.152.228, who appears to have been making good faith edits. If there is an issue with the sourcing that should be taken up directly with that IP account. If that IP account is found to be violating policy and won't respond to discussion, then warnings should be issued, and if those are ignored, then the IP account should be blocked. There is no general vandalism taking place, and IP edits like this appear to be in good faith, and are not potentially contentious or defamatory. Concerns about spam are addressed with warnings first - see Wikipedia:Spam#Warning_spammers - though I'm not convinced that there is a spamming issue here. I agree that some of the sources are questionable, though that's a matter for discussion, not blocking the editor, nor preventing all other IP accounts editing the article for the rest of the year.
You made one edit to undo the work of 208.125.152.228, and you undid the work of two registered accounts at the same time, restoring poor quality material. I don't see you or anyone else "repeatedly" removing the work of IP accounts, and I don't see the sense in removing page references from cites, nor in replacing Winter's Knight with Winter's_Knight, which had been corrected by User:BD2412, another admin - hardly a vandal. That edit of yours is of questionable quality. I would ask you to re-examine your recent actions in this article. SilkTork *YES! 23:44, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

The vanity press items that were included were included in the bibliography of Belanger’s works. Since the author wrote those items, and the references are not being used to support claims about the author or another topic, it is possible that IP 208.125.152.228 did not see why there is so much concern about including all published items in a section listing an author's works. Particularly since there is no policy on what can and cannot be included a bibliography section for authors.

As for the suspicion of IP 208.125.152.228 being affiliated with the author, I believe this is the first mention of such a concern. If there is some other undocumented discussions over concerns about that IP occurring, than that has the potential of that bringing up greater concerns over the transparency of admin actions. If specific edits by IP 208.125.152.228 have been promotional, than they are best discussed on the talk page. Otherwise, other editors don't know what concerns there are, why they are concerns and might start doubting the neutrality of the process and the administration.--SiIIyLiIIyPiIIy (talk) 16:44, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Question About Lists

I've been cleaning up music lists. Specifically removing red-linked entries that went to deleted band articles. (Otherwise I just leave the red links lie. However every so often I find a link that links straight to a website like in the As of List of shoegazing musicians. Might be a dumb question but should I remove those? As I think that'd be spam, but I'm not sure. -WarthogDemon 01:02, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Butting in, I'd say if a band does not have a WP article, it should go. If someone ends up writing about the band, then someone will add the band to the list. J.delanoygabsadds 01:15, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
In that case I have quite a bit of cleanup to do on some lists. Alrighty then. (And note that I did not say that like Jim Carrey does that. I still hate him for destroying one of my favorite numbers...) -WarthogDemon 01:17, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Deletions of Chicago Aldermen "Toni Foulkes", "Willie Cochran", "Lona Lane"

Hello, I am a Chicago Wikipedian and a member of WikiProject Chicago. I've been plugging away for a few years, primarily on Chicago aldermen, mainly updating articles as news breaks, indictments, sentencings, subpeonas, arrests, etc.

I agree the articles on the three aldermen you deleted do not at this time demonstrate notability. More generally, the notability of Chicago aldermen is inherently controversial. The 3 articles were fairly recent additions and I considered them bare starts. I would ask for your patience with them WP:DEMOLISH. I intend to put some more time in on them as time permits. I offer my contribution record as evidence.

Did you propose these articles for deletion? Were they flagged as stubs?

Can you please help me restore them?

Thanks, Hugh (talk) 18:25, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply.

I believe these articles were flagged as stubs prior to deletion, also flagged as asking the community for help with the article content and with references, although that is difficult to confirm right now. Can you please confirm my belief?

Also, how old were these 3 articles? It seems all footprint of their histories were deleted with the articles.

May I ask, did you propose these articles for deletion? Was the "speedy deletion' process used? If not, what process did you follow?

My understanding is that article deletion should not be used to comment on article content or on the suitability of sources. Can you please confirm this understanding?

Can you please help me restore these three articles, with the additional flags of "under construction" while we discuss further how they may be improved, perhaps on their talk pages?

Thanks again,Hugh (talk) 17:21, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you again for your reply. Thank you for your contributions to WP. Thank you for your interest in the Chicago City Council.

I am offended and disappointed at your language. May I ask, how long have you been an administrator? May I ask, is there a WP policy with regard to how we treat each other? Are you trying to drive me away, would that be easier for you?

Thank you for confirming that no process was followed in these deletions, and that the 3 articles you deleted were less than a month old. May I ask, for the third time, can you please confirm that all 3 were flagged as stubs and also as ref:improve? Thank you in advance.

Thanks again. Hugh (talk) 19:22, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Are you going to 1.) restore the articles to mainspace, 2.)userfy the articles, 3.) ask him to recreate encyclopedic articles?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 20:04, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
1) No. 2) No. 3) I'm going to ask him to create encyclopedic articles, which he did not do the first time. These articles were so awful, they were in violation of WP:BLP. DS 20:26, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Your entries in the deletion log made no reference to BLP. Has your understanding of the problems with these articles evolved somewhat since you deleted them without process? I would welcome an opportunity to learn more from you about WP:BLP issues with these articles on their talk pages. Am I being punished for something? Thank you. Hugh (talk) 22:01, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry I was not more prompt with expanding these articles beyond the initial state WP:DEADLINE. I was distracted. Things have been popping here in Chicago. May I point out my many other contributions to other Chicago alderman articles with full references as indictments and other skulduggery unfolded during that month as evidence for my sincere commitment to improving WP. Hugh (talk) 22:13, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply. Thank you for the apology.

May I ask again, how long have you been an admin? Is it your understanding of the WP code of conduct that profanity on a talk page directed at the work of a fellow Wikipedian is appropriate as long as it is immediately followed by an in-text apology?

May I ask, for the fourth time, as I do not currently have access to the deleted text can you please confirm that all 3 of the articles cited above were flagged as stubs and also as ref:improve when you deleted them? I am considering (but would much prefer to avoid) a formal appeal and I would like to know this.

I am anxious to begin work on improved versions of the 3 articles you recently deleted without process. I would like to begin from the deleted versions, restored under the "under construction" and "speedy deletion" badges. Would it help if I stipulate that restoring the articles does not imply any reflection on you or your actions or your service to our community?

Thank you in advance for all your help. Hugh (talk) 21:47, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

"Do you understand, now, why I deleted them?" Thanks for the text. I understand the articles do not meet WP standards, and my standards, either. I am not now nor have I ever defended the article content. I do not understand why you deleted them without extending the simply courtesy of even a brief badge, and I do not understand why, even after my pledge to improve them, you will not extend a fellow Wikipedian the simple courtesy of restoration. If you are trying to punish me or teach me some kind of lesson please be assured I am a quick study and responded well to talk or badges. Hugh (talk) 23:05, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Civil law and Scandinavian Civil law article deletion

Hum, just out of couriosity.. Do you remember why? It's been a while ago now but you deleted Scandinavian law in 07 and although I'm not a law student or in any way knowlagable in the area of law I still find it strange that I couldn't find any article for it when it's even linked to in the civil law article and the Legal systems of the world article. As a citizen of one of the scandinavian countries I am aware that there is a difference but du to my lack of legal education I am at lost as to put my finger on any details. At any rate I can understand that a article that's not of an high enough standard should not be included in the wikipedia but I was kind of wondering if you moved the article you deleted to the private page of a user or something like that where it can still be viewed as I realy would like to read it and perhaps have a look at it's sources. At this moment the best information I've been able to find though a fast google was [this] article. At any rate if you don't care to answare but rather would just delete this message directly I fully understand but I'll ask anyway just in case. So the bottom line is brifly why deleted and is there any salvagable parts out there? Luredreier 17:12, 23 July 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Luredreier (talkcontribs)

This article page was put together over a couple of weeks. I had thought the article was forming up well and i had full intention of digging out some good references regarding the innovations that brought screen printing technology where we are today. This is an important subject that not a lot of people understand. I have been away on vacation for 3 weeks, to come back and find that the article was deleted. I had put comments on the discussion and my talk page to not delete the article without mentioning to me first, as i have spent a lot of time on this piece. Although not a wiki expert, i thought it was up to anyone to add content to wikipedia, and being an expert was not pre-required. Can you restore, so that i can continue work on this.
