I need help badly, I need an editors or editors to completely redo my page but the right way. I can get proof for statements. Please. I am not very Wiki Language knowledgeable and this is getting very frustrating. Donbendell (talk) 06:28, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Don Bendell has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

BLP with extensive personal claims and no referencing

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Help[edit]

<Your Question> I made numerous edits, mainly citations to verify claims on page. I simply want my current biography to be avaialbe on Wiki for people to refer to, as I am a successful author and have a positive national reputation in the martial arts, too. I have tried to show verification of claims about me in the article, but do not understand why there is a note with several criticisms at the top of my page, and sincerely would appreciate editorial guidance to make my Wiki article appropriate within WikiPedia guidelines and requirements. Further, I mentioned to the editor that the photo in question is my own personal property and proper credit goes to Lori Hoeck who took the picture for me as a work for hire. I am appareantly not very Wiki literate for editing my article, so really would like help. Thank you. Blessings,

Well Don, there's a lot to explain here, so bear with me...
First up, the sources in your article don't suffice to show that you pass our basic inclusion guideline. In order to warrant a Wikipedia article, subjects need to have received significant coverage in multiple, independent, reliable sources. None of the references provided satisfy all of these criteria.
The tone of the writing is unencyclopedic and promotional. The acid test is this: if you'd put it on your CV or your website, it isn't appropriate here. Whilst you've clearly toned this down from earlier versions, there still appears to be a clear promotional intent (whether such an intent is genuinely there or not). Wikipedia is not a promotional medium, and we come down hard on editors who are perceived to be using it as such.
Following on from that, part of the problem is that you are writing about yourself - a clearer conflict of interest would be hard to envision. For this reason, autobiographies are strongly discouraged - a better approach would be to make a request at WP:Requested articles, so that an uninvolved editor can create the page instead.
Regarding your picture, if the photo wa taken by Lori Hoeck then she, not you, is the copyright holder. You would need to demonstrate that she gives permission for its use, by showing that she has released it under a suitable free licence, either by having her email permissions-en@wikimedia.org or by getting her to follow the instructions at Donating copyright. Unless you can show that she has legally relinquished copyright of the photo to you, you cannot do this yourself.
The problems with the article largely outweigh the photograph, though (if the article gets deleted again, the photo is irrelevent anyway), so I'd concentrate on fixing that first. To give you a hand, I'll create a draft of what an appropriate version would look like; when this link turns blue, click on it to see the sort of thing required. I've created a basic sandbox version of the article, based soley on what I can find in reliable sources. The amount of coverage is slim - this version would still probably end up at articles for deletion, since there is little to no significant coverage of you ou there. In any case, that's the sort of thing you should be aiming for: information that is directly verifiable in reliable sources, nothing promotional, and nothing from your own knowledge and experience. Yunshui  08:14, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yunshui, Thank you very much for the advice and draft and with your permission, I will use some of your references on me that you listed. I had a chat last night with about five editors, and along with your fully understand what I need to do now. I have my article written like it is on a personal website, instead of an informative one that an aikidoka in Tokyo might read, or a doctor in Pakistan who enjoys reading American westerns, etc. Something I might read in Encyclopedia Brittanica, et al. I looked at your draft, but it really does not accurately portray me or my life. You are a martial artist so hopefully might understand: I have been a student of the martial arts for 46 years and always will be. I do own a successful martial arts school, but I only teach black belts now one night per week, and they teach the classes and essentially run the school. 90% of my time is spent writing books, screenplays, and editorials. My occupation and main passion is writer. Teaching martial arts helps keep my sanity as a writer, is an outlet for growth and slef-emlightenment, and is kind of like a ministry to me to further the martial arts and help others become stronger, better people. I understand now that any and every claim about me made needs to be substantiated with citations wherein someone can click a link, verify it, and move on to the next reading. I am starting to revise and strengthen my article today and hope you will look at it in a few days and let me know what you think. Incidentally, my email address is don@donbendell.com and prefer communicating there. I also wish you well in your own journey with aikido and encourage you to get your two boys involved. Thank you again for taking the time to help me. Blessings, Donbendell (talk) 21:47, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. DGG ( talk ) 20:21, 19 November 2012 (UTC) I would like someobody who knows how to edit in Wiki and offer proper citations to help wrte a page about me. Many people ask about me, and it seems to be a good reference, but there are also Wiki notices on each page asking for donations. Who, however wants to donate when I keep getting notices that my page will be deleted because I am promoting myself. I also listed each of my published books, all published, by major New York City publishers, and each one is listed at amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com etc, along with their ISBN numbers and pub dates, yet it sounds as if someone there does not feel I am a legit author or something. I also wrote, produced, directed, and co-starred in a motion picture sold to 163 countries around the world, The Instructor (Shapiro Entertainment Corp./Vestron Video, 1983). I am listed and so is the film at the IMDB, yet again I am made to feel like I am somebody with no credentials who is simply trying to self-promote. I would love for the story on me to be compelet and accrate and fit the Wiki guidelines, and then I would also be hppay to donate a little ebcause it would be a good reference, if say I am doing a speech or a book-signing and they want to read about me, I could refer them. Is there simply one Wiki editor who is literate with Wiki editing wh will help me to recreate my page so it is acceptable and complete. Thank you, Blessings, Don[reply]

Don, I'm willing to help you out. Let's work on this in your sandbox. Why don't you copy-paste the article from mainspace into your sandbox, and post a link to that sandbox here. Then, I'll help you "wikify" it and add citations. Respectfully, Go Phightins! 02:58, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption[edit]

Don, you seem to be getting quite frustrated because you don't fully understand all of Wikipedia's policies. This can be very frustrating; I know from experience. Would you like to be adopted? This would entail a series of lessons on various aspects of Wikipedia, an opportunity to ask me questions, and then a brief "test" culminating with a final project, of sorts. You could stop at any time, but I think that this program might be helpful for you. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks. Go Phightins! 02:56, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Go Phightins Thank you very much on your offer. I cannot do it tonight but will try to do so within the next 48 hours. I definitely appreciate your help. This is frustrating and I am so busy, becoming Wiki literate is more timne consumption. I do get it now, after being whacked in the head with a two by four, my page needs to read like what you would want if you are a high school kid or college student writing a term paper and want to look up verifiable facts about author Don Bendell, or martial artist Don Bendell, et al, to write a scholarly factual text. I get that now. Not an ad for my career. LIke if I wanted to know something about aardvarks, and it explains what they are, where they came from, what they eat, etc. etc. Thanks very much. Donbendell (talk) 04:02, 27 November 2012 (UTC) Go Phightins, I could not get back here until now. I will try to get into Sandbox now. Thanks. Donbendell (talk) 04:48, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. Do you want to just work on your article, or run the adoption course? (Basically, once this article is done do you plan on editing Wikipedia in other areas) Go Phightins! 20:40, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Go Phightins! I write books and screenplays not Wiki pages. That is not my thing and I respect pros like yourself who can. It is its own area of specialization. I will try to get on the Sandbox tomorrow. Thanks. Donbendell (talk) 21:14, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, so as soon as you get it into your sandbox, let me know and I'll help you out. Thanks. Go Phightins! 21:39, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Go Phightins! I pasted the Wiki page the way it is now really cut down from other editors on my Sandbow. Here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Donbendell/sandbox&action=edit&preload=Template%3AUser_sandbox%2Fpreload&editintro=Template%3AUser_sandbox&redlink=1 I am ready to go for it, when you are. My email by the way, is don@donbendell.com Donbendell (talk) 05:08, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Don, I'm headed to bed now, but I should be able to take a look at some point tomorrow. Go Phightins! 05:11, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
