Japanese girl group AKB48 has recorded material for six studio albums and three compilation albums. The group was formed in 2005 and released their two independent singles "Sakura no Hanabiratachi" and "Skirt, Hirari" in 2006. After signing with DefStar Records, they released their first major label single (third overall) "Aitakatta" in October 2006. They released their first compilation album, Set List: Greatest Songs 2006–2007, in 2008.
