Here are some tasks awaiting attention:

Documentation[edit]

It would be lovely if somebody wrote a documentation for this infobox. If the parameters were explained, maybe non-sailors who haven't got a clue what the various terms stand for could work on infoboxes, too. Schwede66 18:35, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

image captions[edit]

This template originally had parameters to specify captions for all four images (as in the current documentation). It was later changed to use Burgee and Ensign in all cases for |burgee= and |ensign=. While that seems fine for a default caption, it would still be useful to specify a caption and override the default. This recently came up in Royal Victoria Yacht Club (England). Jonesey95 ?  Fixed. – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:35, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Jonesey95, this doesn't appear quite right. I found a case, West Mersea Yacht Club, where the default caption for Burgee is missing but Ensign is there. This is another case where the operation is different depending on whether the caption para is there with no value or not there at all. Can the template use the default unless there is an actual value given? MB 19:38, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I always forget about that annoying possibility. That should work differently. I have added if statements, which should fix it. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:06, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Jonesey95, Seems fine now. One more related thing, would you be willing to give an opinion on a style issue. At Royal Victoria Yacht Club (England), an editor insists on using html to color all the captions blue (for stylistic consistency} - you can't tell the links from the text. I reverted once, linked and quoted the relevent MOS but they say the MOS doesn't apply to captions. Need a third opinion. See the article TP. Thanks again for fixing this template. Jonesey95 & MB I fully understand and accept the views expressed on the RVYC talk page. My purpose here is not to quibble about "generally". The RVYC is a very old club; it has certainly had warrants for three different ensigns and it is possible it has worn four. The club also has an emblem. I have managed to meet the objections about colour but only at an expense. I value infoboxes and the work put into the design. Is possible to enable this box to take an emblem and multiple ensigns? Jacksoncowes (talk) 16:33, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This template already allows for images of emblem, burgee, ensign, and otheremblem. I think more than that would be too much for an infobox. Also, this infobox is only used a a few hundred articles there does not seem to be any need for more ensigns in any other transculsions. I suggest you show historical ensigns in a section of the article and not in the infobox. Infoboxes are for "key" info, not complete histories. MB 16:44, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ensign[edit]

The template's parameter Ensign currently links to a disambiguation page. If there are no objections, I will try change this to Ensign (flag) (hope I will be able to understand the syntax with all those curly braces...) --Cyfal (talk) 15:21, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata[edit]

Ok can we start to think about how to link this infobox to wikidata and what categories would be most appropriate.

What this infobox missing[edit]

Fields in template and wikidata

  • Country should be a separate field not part of the address
  • Do we want affiliation to allow it to be linked to say US Sailing etc.
  • Former Name

Fields used in wikidata only:

  • Social Media
  • Some for of Locations Latitude and Longitude should be in wikidata to power maps should this be on the template. I would say no?

Does Template:Infobox_national_sports_federations offer any thoughts?
