Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that Iron Pipeline be merged into arms trafficking. Wikipedia is not a dictionary, and the fact is that "Iron Pipeline" or "Iron River" is just a catchy name for an arms trafficking route. Wikipedia is about concepts, not terms. This entire article could be summed up in a single sentence in the arms trafficking article. Faceless Enemy (talk) 01:56, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Support. Be BOLD and just do it. –Fredddie 04:03, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Done, thanks for the input. Faceless Enemy (talk) 22:50, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Faceless Enemy, Fredddie, Darknipples: I am restoring this. The recent cop killing in NY has generated additional coverage, and even before that there was plenty of room for expansion. Note also that the target this was redirected to didn't add anything to the topic. Drmies (talk) 16:33, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think we should add any and all additional coverage, I just haven't had time. There could be more to IP than first was thought. I've seen quite a few mentions of it as well, from some RS. I think it is maintaining a notable amount of attention in the media along the East coast, more so than the rest of the country. Darknipples (talk) 22:51, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to Wikipedia:Give an article a chance, but I still think this would be better off growing in the larger arms trafficking article. Faceless Enemy (talk) 23:20, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
"Iron Pipeline" and "guns" on Google delivers almost 9000 hits, many of them quality sources. In Google Books it delivers three or four pages of solid hits. So I think there's enough evidence for a standalone article. Drmies (talk) 01:30, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion[edit]

Anyone have a suggestion for an appropriate Infobox for this article? Also, I have no idea where Hwy 95 runs, so an image of that plus a graphic of the states involved might be nice.

Plus, what about the guns that leave the country? Isn't there a component of this that involves guns going to Mexico? Shouldn't the ATF debacle known as Operation Fast and Furious be mentioned? --Scalhotrod (Talk) ☮ღ☺ 15:31, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2016 CNN.Money.News article[edit]

Just wanted to run this article by everyone and point out what seems like the most recent/prolific "neutral" take-away (info) on the IP Topic...

  • President Obama invoked the Iron Pipeline on Jan. 5 when he announced executive actions to clarify laws on background checks and to hire hundreds of ATF and FBI agents to enforce them. "Guns cross state lines as easily as cars do. If your state has strong gun laws but the neighboring state does not have strong gun laws, the guns come into your state. That's called the Iron Pipeline," the president said.
