Wang Zilu (Chinese: 王子露; born 18 June 2003) is a Chinese rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2023 Asian Championships all-around, hoop, and team bronze medalist and a 2022 Asian Games team bronze medalist.
Career[edit]
Wang began rhythmic gymnastics at the age of seven.[1]
Junior[edit]
Wang was selected to represent China at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.[2] She finished 16th in the qualification round and did not advance to the final.[3]
Senior[edit]
Wang became age-eligible for senior competitions in 2019. She competed at the 2019 Asian Championships in Pattaya, where she won silver in team. was selected, as an individual, to compete at the 2021 Wold Championships in Kitakyushu, where she ended 28th in the All-Around and with hoop, 35th with ball, 19th with clubs and 32nd with ribbon.[4]
In 2023 she started at the World Cup in Athens, ending 26th in the All-Around.[5] She was 7th in the All-Around, 4th in the clubs final and 8th with ribbon in Sofia.[6] In April she was 11th in Tashkent and 22nd in Baku.[7][8] She then competed at the Asian Championships in Manila, winning bronze in the All-Around, teams and with hoop.[9][10] In the last World Cup stage in Milan she took 24th place in the All-Around.[11] Wang was then selected for the World Championships in Valencia, being 7th in teams, 10 in the All-Around, 16th with hoop, 43rd with ball, 12th with clubs and 5th with ribbon, as well as achieving a spot for the Olympics in Paris thanks to the reallocation.[12]
On March 24, 2024, she won gold with clubs at the World Cup in Athens, her first medal in that competition.[13]
Personal life[edit]
In 2019, Wang was named an Elite Athlete of National Class by the General Administration of Sport.[14] She is studying physical education at Beijing Sport University.[15]
Achievements[edit]
- First Chinese rhythmic gymnast to win a gold medal in an individual apparatus final at the FIG World Cup series.[16]
