three seasons of US spinoffs of GBBO[edit]

  • 2013: The first U.S. version of The Great British Bake Off came in summer 2013, on CBS, entitled The American Baking Competition. Of the two British judges, it starred Paul Hollywood rather than Mary Berry ... The competition took place at the Gibbs Gardens in Ball Ground, Georgia in March 2013.
  • 2015 DEC: ABC turned the format into a limited-run Christmas special, The Great Holiday Baking Show. Mary Berry and Johnny Iuzzini.
  • 2016 DEC: This second season of the ABC show has lost its holiday theme and title, becoming simply The Great American Baking Show. It's longer, with eight episodes instead of four... Mary Berry and Johnny Iuzzini.

Location: UK[edit]

Why would ABC go to the expense of flying and providing hotel accomodations for 6 American bakers (plus the hosts and Johnny) to England to film an American show? ... it seems like a lot of expense for a 4-week show.
The answer to that question is two words: Mary Berry.

She was part of the deal with ABC in hopes that her gentle personality would undo the damage Foxworthy unleashed upon the last American iteration of this format and make it more palatable. Sadly for ABC, Berry turned down the offer to relocate for the filming of this short series due to (her health/age and) wanting to stay close to her family. ABC had no choice but to bring everything to her.

American baking show. The hosts (not the judges) are atrocious. The contestants leave much to be desired. With all the bakers in the US I find it hard better bakers 2600:8800:7186:EE00:4123:1381:7241:17FB (talk) 00:39, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
