Stan Lee admits the influence of the Spider[edit]

In the book Origins of Marvel Comics, Stan Lee states that he took the name of the Spider for his own character, Spider-Man. However, in his recollections of the Spider, Lee conflated the character with the Phantom, as Lee remembered the Spider leaving his seal on his foes whenever he punched them. In fact, the Spider left his seal on criminals after he had slain them; the Phantom left the imprint of his skull ring on foes he hit.

Adaptations[edit]

I've heavily revised and rewritten the entry on the various Spider pulp mass-market paperback series that have been published since 1969. Several of the already-sighted Web references contain this same info. I also--to be absolutely certain of the details--double-checked my own Spider collection, since I have a complete collection of all the Spider reprints--1969 to the modern day. Those Web sources confirm my own complete collection. (I maintain a large Hero Pulp collection and also have *all* the important pulp reference books as a part of that very large collection. I carefully consulted those titles before finalizing any new addtions to this entry. I've also created a Reference section for those same titles. --Wikipedian SolarWind1.

Infoboxes[edit]

{{Infobox comics set and title}} is not an ideal infobox but it is better than the previous use of two different infobox (oone for the "superhero" and one for the magazine). The new infobox is good but it is a little too comic focussed (and it is not being used correctly in this article, although its the current best fit for the article's needs). hrm... I know there is an intent to create a "[single] character & title" 'box for the comics pages. It's be a "1/2 step" forward here. Article title[edit]

I've restored the long-stable original since the page move did not go through the Wikipedia:Requested moves process. (My edit summary should save read that we don't make such movies without that process; I inadvertently wrote "with'.) I would note that per discussions at Talk:Green Hornet and Lone Ranger, consensuses closed by admin were against "The Green Hornet" and "The Lone Ranger", per Wikipedia naming conventions.--Tenebrae (talk) 00:50, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Spider-Man?[edit]

it would really help if some sentence or two would be added as to the relation between Spider and Spider-Man. Is there any? Even if not, every second contemporary wikipedia reader will ask this, for sure. Pulp Novel reprints[edit]

The subject is out of my wheelhouse but this section is completely unreadable, and the long list of numbers is totally meaningless to any passing people (like me!) who only know a little of the characters. Suggested move to The Spider (pulp fiction character)[edit]

Since The Spider (magazine) exists to cover the magazine itself, I would like to move this article to a title that indicates it's about the character specifically and not the magazine, though of course it mentions the magazine. The Spider (pulp fiction character) would work. I could also go with The Spider (character) if that seems specific enough. Any objections or other ideas? I moved it to Spider (pulp fiction character), as there are too many other Spiders at Spider (disambiguation) for Spider (character) to be the right choice. However I'm now thinking I should have also added "The" to the front, as that's part of the character name. I'll wait a bit and make that change too if there are no objections.
