July newsletter coming soon

Courtesy pings to listed nominators @JECason, Spicy, Tom (LT), Doug Coldwell, David notMD, Larry Hockett, MonkeyStolen234, and Vrrajkum:. I'm putting together the July WP:MED newsletter this week, which lists your GA nominations. If you'd like to change how your username is displayed in some way (add a co-nominator, et al.) please let me know before the end of this week. Thanks! Ajpolino (talk) 23:53, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Just sent it to the mailing list. It's vertically longer than I expected. Would folks prefer it come collapsed so it doesn't overwhelm the talk page? Ajpolino (talk) 21:53, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
Length did not bother me,SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:54, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

August possibility

There is a long-standing practice of NOT including page nos on medical article journal citations, even when the journal article is long. WT:FAC is pushing back on this,[1] and I had to add page numbers to dementia with Lewy bodies. See Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Dementia with Lewy bodies/archive1; what was this became this. This is quite a deviation from how we have always written medical articles, and perhaps worthy of an article here. Converting was a lot of work, but the exercise convinced me that our current practice of citing entire, long journal articles does not conform with WP:V. And once I got a system of citing by section rather than page, the work was less hard. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:51, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

That's a great idea SandyGeorgia, I had watched that conversation from afar and switched the references in Buruli ulcer (though I haven't yet gone back through older GAs I worked on like Plasmodium). I agree it was probably unreasonable of us to expect verifiers to comb through long dense articles to find what we were thinking of. I'll post links to those discussions and a note, probably in the "Discussions of interest" section? Ajpolino (talk) 19:01, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

Another August possibility

I have worked up an analysis of WPMED’s need to address some very high pageview but dated FAs. See User:SandyGeorgia/sandbox2. Post to WTMED, or make it into an article here? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:51, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Wow, that list is saddening, though perhaps not surprising. I suppose a benefit of WTMED is that it facilitates discussion on the topic, whereas the newsletter is distributed to (currently) seven talk pages. Either way, happy to include it. Ajpolino (talk) 19:01, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

August newsletter pings

Hello @David notMD, Tom (LT), Larry Hockett, MonkeyStolen234, Vrrajkum, and Doug Coldwell: you are all listed as nominating an article for GA on the upcoming newsletter. If you'd like to be listed differently (e.g. with a co-nom or by a different name that you sign as and I missed), please let me know some time in the next week. Thanks all for your work! Ajpolino (talk) 22:49, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

September newsletter pings

Hello @Larry Hockett, David notMD, Spicy, Tom (LT), MonkeyStolen234, G. Moore, Pi. 1415926535, and Doug Coldwell:, you are all listed as nominating an article for GA/FA on the upcoming newsletter. If you'd like to be listed differently (e.g. with a co-nom or by a different name that you sign as and I missed), please let me know some time this week. Thanks all for your work! Ajpolino (talk) 22:50, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

@Pi.1415926535: Fixing ping; got the number right but the spacing wrong. Take 2! Ajpolino (talk) 22:51, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
@Ajpolino and Dormskirk: I would like to add Dormskirk as a co-nom for the Endell Street Military Hospital article. He contributed significantly to the original article and sought my guidance on promoting it. -- Talk to G Moore 23:40, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
Many thanks for that: it is, of course, fine with me. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 23:52, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, and the newsletter is appreciated Ajpolino. --Tom (LT) (talk) 08:53, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

October newsletter

Ajpolino, I see you've begun the process; what is your planned publication date? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:41, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

I've been sending them out around the first of each month, though there's no particular deadline I'm trying to meet. If you (or anyone else reading this!) are interested in putting together a feature section (interview with new med editors?), you're more than welcome to! I may not have time to put one together again this month. Things here should calm down a bit in October so I should have more brainspace to put to things then. Ajpolino (talk) 23:25, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
A minor issue... "his first successful FA candidate" makes it sound like I've had failed nominations before. This wounds my ego. :p Could this maybe be changed to "his first FA"? Thanks, Spicy (talk) 19:26, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
Of course! It can be described however you'd like; we all must care for our egos. I've taken the liberty of leaving the exclamation point to accurately communicate my enthusiasm. I hope all is well on your end! Ajpolino (talk) 22:53, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
