Date of Oct. 2010 Meetup at Jefferson Market Library[edit]

There are four Saturdays in October that work for the library: the 2nd, the 9th, the 16th, and the 30th. The 9th is Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 12, so we might want to avoid that. Maybe do the 16th or 30th?--Pharos (talk) 00:23, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The later-in-the-month weekends definitely work better for me. I think the 16th or 30th would be fine. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 00:35, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Can't make the 30th, but the 16th should be fine. T. Canens (talk) 11:24, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
any. DGG ( talk ) 17:07, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The 16th or 30th works for me. BTW, love the Jefferson Market. Beautiful old library. — Becksguy (talk) 19:49, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rather it be the 30th but the 16th works for me Peter.C • talk 20:53, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not 2nd or 23rd for me but those don't seem to be in the running anyway. --Jeremyb (talk) 21:33, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, it'll be the 16th then (see front side for details).--Pharos (talk) 23:26, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Restaurant suggestions?[edit]

New meetup, new neighborhood, new restaurant! So, anyone have tips on chow within walking distance of Jefferson Market Library?--Pharos (talk) 03:07, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sammy's Noodle good food; sometimes noisy. Jim.henderson (talk) 18:53, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Omg absolutely. Sammy's has cheap, awesome food, especially their noodles (I know, you're all shocked that a place with "noodles" in its name serves good noodles). Main dining room can get crowded, but they might be able to make arrangements to fit us. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 19:11, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Some banging Chinese food hahaha AJona1992 (talk) 16:43, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More presentations, please![edit]

We have room for 2 or 3 more presentations, so if you have the slightest urge to pontificate, please sign up!--Pharos (talk) 05:00, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If I come, I can talk about what DC folks are working on... WP:GLAM/SI, User:Aude/FedFlix, and other cool stuff. --Aude (talk) 18:18, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

November social-only meetup?[edit]

At the October meetup, there was pretty heavy support for interspersing social-only meetups in the months between business meetups, so let's try to grassroots a social meetup for November. No business required!

  • First question: those of you who celebrate Shabbos on Saturdays, would you be able to attend a Saturday meetup that started after sundown? Or are Saturdays right out, no matter what time?
  • Second question: What weekend in November? I know that Pharos will be out of town until the 13th and Mitchazenia will not be in town the weekend of the 13th, so that leaves us either the weekend of Nov 20th or Nov 27th (Thanksgiving weekend) as likely candidates.
  • Third question: Socializing? Where? How? Food? Drink?

Go (planning) team go! keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 20:22, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In that case, I would think the weekend of Nov 20th, as many people will surely be away for Thanksgiving weekend. Perhaps pick a dinner place for the Saturday evening, and also a time to hop to the bar later that night (way after sunset)?--Pharos (talk) 21:31, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

November and December are laden with family holidays, and remember, Shabbos keepers will also be kosher, limiting the choice of restaurant even on Sunday. As for bar hopping, I'm likely to duck out before, but cheerfully. Jim.henderson (talk) 22:55, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, the only kosher place we've ever tried before is Cafe Nana.--Pharos (talk) 23:34, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Shomer Shabbos definitely doesn't imply a requirement for a Kosher restaurant. Also some people may be Kosher at home and not eat pork or lobster anywhere but willing to eat fish (with some criteria) or vegetarian at a mainstream establishment. We should query potential participants directly for their requirements. (they might not be watching this page) --Jeremyb (talk) 01:07, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, for timing, the holiday will end before 5:30 on the 20th so any observant attendees would definitely be able to leave home by 6pm. If we allow for 2 hours of travel that puts us at 8pm. (btw, my last comment is based on practices of real people not guesswork) --Jeremyb (talk) 01:16, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An alternative I've just been thinking about is to skip to Dec 4, and do a meetup at the Brooklyn Museum during their First Saturday festivities, rather like we did way back with Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/November 2007.--Pharos (talk) 19:33, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know yet if I can come, but certainly sounds wonderful and I would try to be there. :) --Aude (talk) 20:22, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm up for a December museum day or a November food-and-drink day. Either works. Or both, for that matter. keɪɑtɪk flʌfi (talk) 20:30, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The weekend of November 20-21 works well for me. If it's not a planned event with a program, we don't need a big crowd to enjoy chatting and a meal. Newyorkbrad (talk) 02:56, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Either Nov 20 or 21 works for me. T. Canens (talk) 23:05, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • Let's do it. (Incidentally, I sent an e-mail to the Wikimedia-NYC mailing list to get further input, but it seems to be stuck in moderation.) Newyorkbrad (talk) 23:10, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      • Any ideas about time & place? T. Canens (talk) 06:31, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
        • Me thinks we need an uptown meet. If we're so worried, we can take the subway to downtown at some point. November 20th works fine or me (or 21st). (from Mitch32, the ingenious laptop here has no button for the signature tidles.)

Where do I signup to get notices about this? Please put a TB on my talkpage.--Metallurgist (talk) 05:35, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
