Criteria for the contest?[edit]

Is the point artistry or providing a good view of the bird and its field marks? Racandee (talk) 15:31, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Racandee: This is a good question. Here is something I wrote to the judges of the last photo contest we ran: "When evaluating images, consider technical quality, composition, editing, and creativity. How you interpret and weigh these factors is up to you, of course, and can vary from picture to picture. Wikimedia Commons does have an educational mission, so e.g. very blurry images or those overprocessed to the point of being unrealistic are not much use, but we're mainly looking for what you find most interesting and/or impressive." In other words, it will in part be up to the judges, but because the contest involves Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons educational value is going to be important to some degree. That doesn't mean artistry is irrelevant, of course. An encyclopedia is often better served by a beautiful image of the subject that gets readers interested and want to learn more, even if some other images are a bit better from a technical perspective. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 16:37, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

jury volunteering[edit]

How does one volunteer to be part of the judging? do we have to live in NYC? 2603:8080:4600:358D:7853:B572:27A2:E980 (talk) 16:36, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

We'll be sorting out the jury behind the scenes with our partners, but thanks for offering! — Rhododendrites talk \\ 23:38, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Different Submissions[edit]

Two questions:

Is there a limit to how many photos one can submit?

Should I label them? (for example, this photo was taken in prospect park)

Thanks! 18banderson (talk) 21:51, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@18banderson: No, there's no limit. They just have to be your own work. :) As for labels, if you upload using the dedicated link on this page, you'll be prompted for a location. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 23:37, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
