Review of Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Vincotech[edit]

I've been trying to get an objective review of my article for some time, which is about a company spun off from the German Siemens AG. However, past reviewers either considered the sources (from the specialized press) as not reliable, or the article as written like an advertisement. My article was admittedly badly written at first, but now I am confident to meet the standards. Would you help me see what I obviously must be missing? Thank you very much! The Electronics World and Power Systems Design sources appear to be good sources. However, I think the problem you're facing is while the company is successful, it's market is restricted to behind-the-scenes activities for its customers, and there's very little third party coverage. Most of the references in the article are the company's own site, or are press releases, which just confirm the company exists. I couldn't really find much else of substance when I searched for sources myself. Unfortunately, it seems that the world at large isn't really interested about who makes UPSes or power supplies, as long as they work. Sorry. The easiest way to tell the difference is to do a news search. Semikron has lots and lots of hits, whereas Vincotech has very little, and of the two hits, one clearly says "Press release". Ritchie333 ^(talk) ^(cont) 13:01, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Google News certainly is a good source for press articles. But should they not be part of a Wikipedia article, as references, if they support statements made in it? My article has been denied, in turns, as either too promotional or lacking references. The article about Semikron I cited states points not bourne up by references. The only thing I have learned now is that you don't need to worry as long Google has enough hits on the topic you're writing about. Chernian (talk) 10:17, 6 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If a news source is directly about an article's subject, and is obviously independent, then it's a great source to use. On AfC, provided you list your sources clearly, and it's possible that somebody else can clean them up and cite them inline, there's no reason why your submission shouldn't be accepted. Hi, The Madmanbot is in error over the following submission regarding duplicated material for NORML UK. The web address referenced by Madmanbot is not the original source of the content of this article. I have used the content from the NORML UK web page directly, http://norml-uk.org/ , with permission from the board at NORML and I am myself a NORML UK member.

We cannot publish that article, for a couple of reasons. Firstly I see no indication that that content has been released under a free license compatible with Wikipedia's CC-BY-SA 3.0 License. If it has been released under such a license you'll have to send a confirmation email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org - an example release form is here. But even if the content is freely licensed it's still highly inappropriate for Wikipedia. It cites not a single third-party source. It's unduly promotional. It even speaks of the organization as "we". In short, it would have to be rewritten so thoroughly that it's easier to start over than to bother with the license. You may also want to have a look at our guidelines on conflicts of interest (in short, it may not be a good idea for you to write about your own organization) and on the notability of organizations. For now I'll delete the draft as a copyright violation; if permission is granted to use it under a free license it can be undeleted, but as I said it would be easier to rewrite it from scratch. Need help publishing this. My submission was kicked back for an image I uploaded stating the following:

For now, don't worry about the picture. Non-free pictures can't be used in AfC drafts, but can be used in mainspace articles (if and when accepted). However, the stipulation you're using is when there can't be a free replacement (person died before 1990, event before then, or using a logo where no free version can exist).
