Hi,

I recently submitted an article Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Steam Bandits: Outpost and had it rejected because it sounded like an advertisement... the rejection left me somewhat flustered as I took care to make sure that all content was attributed to reliable video game sources (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Video_games/Sources) and that the content did not deviate significantly from the sourced material in description. If I could get some help identifying which aspects led the article to sound like an advertisement that would be greatly appreciated!

I don't quite see why the draft was considered an advertisement; however, not all the references are all that reliable. Kickstarter, the reddid post and the company's own website are all primary sources. We should avoid those in favor of secondary sources. Huon (talk) 10:14, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I was the reviewer who declined your article. I have a few concerns that I will elaborate on here. First, the game does not yet exist so you are seeking to create a submission about the potential development of a game. Most of the articles cited are about the Kickstarter page which is set up to try to raise money for the development of the game and the proposed nature of the game and almost all of the information for the articles, by necessity, comes directly from Jason Fader, head of Iocaine Studios, who is trying to launch the game. The submission, therefore, is not so much about a video game but a proposed video game and the fundraising campaign that has been put in place to help create it. So, in my view, the article is more of a promotional article or advertisement than an article about a video game that is in existence and has had independent review and commentary about it in reliable sources. Once the game is created, it may well receive such independent, secondary commentary and you may wish to resubmit your article at that time. Other editors, however, may take a different view so you are welcome to revise your article and resubmit it. Your talk link isn't working here so I will add these comments to the article itself to ensure that you get them. Sorry I couldn't accept your submission at this time. Hi, Thanks for the clarification. I will go ahead and try to do a bit more research and see if I can reduce the number of primary sources. Because the primary sources tend to have more nuanced detail about the game than the independent sources do, I thought it would be reasonable to include them as long as I also had an independent source backing up the details of the primary source. As for Kickstarter pages that are still in progress, I thought that the game page I created would be okay because a number of fairly recent /ongoing Kickstarter projects which also have not produced a final product all have wikipedia pages that appear to have passed the review process... I don't want to make this a game of resubmit until I get a reviewer who will accept the draft, so other substantive changes that I could/should make would be much appreciated. Please Guide me to remove the Unreliable links[edit]

Please guide me to remove the unreliable links or you yourself directly remove the unreliable sources on your own so that at least it can be published first. Whereas, in future, i will keep on adding more on it time to time.

Hi there Guitarmonk. Thanks for wanting to contributing to Wikipedia! First, just a heads up - it's really not a good idea to write your own article about yourself - Wikipedia frowns upon that type of activity because it's often hard to not be neutral when writing about yourself, which is a problem with your article. A few notes:

Uncapitalize words like "Guitarist," the term "Guitarist," is not capitalized - it should just be guitarist. The same goes for words like "television," "record labels," "music albums," etc.
In biographical writing about women or men it's important to refer to the subject by their surname - so you'd say "Srivastava made his television.." not "Kapil made.." so please change that.
Please remove the word "famous" and it's not neutral and is an uncited claim. No reason to use the word famous - if you're notable enough you'll have a Wikipedia article and that's good enough :)
Remove the links to your books - those go in a bibliography section. So please create that section and just make a short and sweet list of your books there.
Statements like this: "Kapil and his team have so far taught more than 5000+ students and serving programs in more than 7 countries. Kapil received a plethora of corporate excellence and social initiative honors by State Government (New Delhi), Delhi University, Ministry of Health (New Delhi), Rotary Club, HCL, Amity University etc." need citations from reliable sources (such as magazine articles, newspaper articles, etc) or it'll be removed.
"Guitarmonk" is italicized and it shouldn't be. Band names are not italicized. If you had an album called "Guitarmonk" then you would italicize it, but names of people and bands don't get that treatment.
The following sources are not reliable and thus they and the content they cite can be removed from the article:

Guitarmonk releases its 'Music for Health' album - press releases are not reliable
All of the links to your books
Kapil S cuts his new album as it appears to be written by you or someone from an organization you are involved with - there isn't even a name of an author.

On that note, I was unable to just simply "Google" and find any reliable sources that cover your work. It seems you have received coverage in magazines and newspapers, though. It comes down to this: your article has to be fully cited with reliable sources or it'll be declared "non-notable" and unable to be kept in Wikipedia.

I hope this helps, and remember - even if your article isn't eligible to be in Wikipedia, we desperately need improvement to articles about guitars and music - and as a guitarist I'm sure you know where there are reliable sources to make that happen! Please help[edit]

Hi,An article submitted by has been rejected but that doesnt make me nervous but some queries comes in mind :(1)-I have seen some articles without any single source and i wonder how they could be accepted like Garhwali people (2)-How to insert an image which have no copyright issues is still a mystery for me because there is a precedure mentioned but to understand it is pretty hard for me.Zion1985 (talk) 19:10, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As I said in reply to your previous question, firstly, the Garhwali people has eight refereces including the UNESCO and Ethnologue, and secondly, while other insufficiently sourced articles exist, that's no reason to create more. Each submission must stand on its own merits.

If the image is in the public domain or published under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License, you can upload it to the Wikimedia Commons via their Upload Wizard. Once it's uploaded, the picture tutorial explains how to add it to an article. Huon (talk) 21:26, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
