User:Arbitration Committee SPI Clerk

Hi. Can you explain your thoughts and intentions with User:Arbitration Committee SPI Clerk? Thanks, Barkeep49 (talk) 23:40, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

This is a doppleganger account made to prevent impersonation of ArbCom/SPI by vandals. -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 23:40, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
Look, I don't want LTAs pretending to be ArbCom/SPI members and causing disruption on Wikipedia, so I decided to make a doppleganger to prevent them from causing disruption in the first place. -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 23:44, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
As you can see the account use has quickly drawn attention with GeneralNotability has already blocked it. We have some checks in place to ensure there can't be ArbCom related impersonation and by you labeling it as an alt of yours it seems to imply you are either on the Arbitration Committee or an SPI clerk neither of which is true. Truthfully, I was hoping the reply was going to be some kind of April Fools explanation but as it stands it just strikes me as poor judgement. Barkeep49 (talk) 23:49, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
This is not an April Fools day prank. -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 23:50, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
Yeah I get that, which is actually the problem. Inserting yourself into the Arbitration Committee processes like this is a bad idea unless you're doing it with official committee approval. Creating an account which could make yourself appear official is actually a bigger problem. If some vandal had created the account we'd have blocked it just like what happened here - in fact it would have been faster because we wouldn't have had to think "what's a legitimate editor doing here" and I wouldn't have had to explain, in two different messages now, why this was just a plain bad idea. Barkeep49 (talk) 23:53, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
Again, I am sorry if I caused any disruption. I will not try to be as impulsive in the future. -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 23:54, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
I think you have good intentions, but when people are appointed as administrators or clerks or to arbcom, those rights are granted to their regular account name. There aren't special "arbcom" account names. Schazjmd (talk) 23:51, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
Understood. Again, I just don't want vandals lurking around Wikipedia and pretending to be ArbCom members. As a member of the CVU, I absolutely despise vandalism. -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 23:52, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
You do see, I hope, that by creating this account as an alt of your own, it looks like you are pretending to be an ArbCom member. So, you yourself actually did what you say you wanted to prevent "vandals" from doing. Liz Read! Talk! 00:23, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
I am sorry for any disruption caused. -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 00:23, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
Again, I am fairly inexperienced when it comes to Wikipedia editing (I joined about a month-ish ago), so I apologize if I violated any rules. I will not be as impulsive in the future. -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 00:25, 2 April 2023 (UTC)

Unsourced bias editing

You have continuously REVERTED unsourced bias content on Braxton Mitchell

As stated: Mitchell was adopted and is not a transgender individual so he does not have a "deadname" look up the definition. There is also no sourced content stating that Mitchell "refuses to acknowledge" his old name. Also, Why should should he?

Also, on "Bullying" The text in the proposed legislation says directly "If the behavior does not rise to bullying" — Preceding unsigned comment added by JustGottaSend21 (talkcontribs) 23:28, 2 April 2023 (UTC)

I have responded this to your talk page. -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 01:12, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

Some advice

Just some quick advice. Less is better. I wouldn't comment at that AN/I discussion unless directly asked a question and then, when asked, you should answer straight and provide evidence in the form of diffs. No one wants to read conjecture, even if it is the truth as you see it. You made several missteps and even if in good faith they could be considered disruptive which could lead to sanctions of some sort, if not now then definitely if it continues, so it's best to use this as a learning experience and move forward with intent not to make the same mistakes.

It's never a good idea to interject yourself into other user's discussion's in which you have taken no part in the past unless it is to seek resolution in the form of a request and even then it should be very subdued. Unless you can definitively determine which side is in error, by policy, I would not choose sides. I know you were only trying to help but it is very important to attempt to bring sides together in discussion and seek every avenue to advance towards a consensus which requires everyone collaborate in a civil manner. This is not always easy and discussions may take up to years to find resolutions so it's best to keep our cool and not instigate further division. --ARoseWolf 20:29, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

I understand. For now I will cease commenting on ANI to avoid further disruption unless reporting unambiguous sockpuppetry, vandalism or other bad faith editing. I hope to avoid causing disruption in the future. -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 22:39, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
@ARoseWolf, I do think I have some diffs that show that Cukrakalnis and Marcelus has edit warred before though (twice). Would you mind if I shared them? -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 00:52, 6 April 2023 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Deletion discussion about NOVID (app)

Hello, Shadow of the Starlit Sky, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username Shushugah, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, NOVID (app), should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/NOVID (app).

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Shushugah}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Those IPs

I'll remove my AIV reports. You should probably report those IPs to ANI anyways. LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 11:43, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

No problem. I will report them to ANI promptly. They clearly have a WP:RGW mentality and are intent on disrupting Wikipedia by inserting their own POV in articles. -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 11:44, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
@Shadow of the Starlit Sky, @LilianaUwU, I don't think reporting run-of-the mill bigotry is ANI worthy. I'd say that AIV was the right call as patrolling admins will likely block the user given enough evidence of disruptive behavior. Now if the subject was a long-term user performing very subtle bigotry or discriminatory POV-pushing, that would definitely be ANI worthy, but as it stands, I don't think that forum should be clogged with such mundane reports. A follow-up from Reddit

Hey SotSS, I'm following up here from your recent post on Reddit. I wanted to let you know that I've brought the concerns raised by the person who goes by the account name "Paraperire" to the biographies of living persons noticeboard. You can read the thread here. Kurtis (talk) 19:53, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Hmm... I'll look into this sometime soon. -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 20:17, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
@Kurtis Just read that post on Reddit and left my response on the BLP noticeboard thread. -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 20:25, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Groovy—for the record, nobody expects you to get entangled in this kerfuffle. I just notified you because the issue was broached on your Reddit post, and standard practice is to notify editors of noticeboard discussions when they're involved in some form or fashion. Kurtis (talk) 20:29, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
@Kurtis Ahh, I see. Thanks for letting me know! :) -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 21:09, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Oops, sorry! I tried to correct a couple of diacritical marks with JavascriptWikiBrowser but I made a couple of mistakes.... I'll be more careful next time (I'm new to this whole JWB thing, so yeah). Thanks for catching my mistakes, by the way. :) -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 21:16, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
