I have curiosity for article Kim Il-sung.

If the name of Pyongyang in the Japanese era should be spelled "Hei-jo" then why is the name of the Spanish(Aragonese) king " Fernando II" called and spelled "Ferdinand II"?

If the reason is that during the period when Korea under Japanese control Pyongyang(平壤) was anglicized and pronounced by Japanese style “Hei-jo”, then in the articles about other non-British western kings, it should follow the more original names. Because other European monarchies, such as Spain and Aragon were not even under English(British) control.

@Juniv0862: Firstly, if you have a grievance with an edit or revert to an article that I made, start a discussion on the article's talk page, not my user talk. Secondly, the common name of a 15th/16th century king in Europe has no relevance whatsoever to the edit to Kim Il-sung you are presumably disputing. The relevant policies are MOS:BIRTHPLACE and MOS:CONTEXTBIO. Thirdly, "Japanese Korea" is not a common way to describe Japanese-occupied Korea in English scholarly literature. This is because, as anyone who has done even a cursory reading of Korean history would tell you, Korea was not a mere colony unlike similarly named articles like British Hong Kong. Redirects are also not equivalent to accepted alternate names. So yes, you are very wrong. Yue🌙 06:04, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

Image Formating

Hi.

What exactly did you mean, concerning your revert on Communist Party of Germany with Improperly formatted images? Is it something about the alt text, caption or the size? The image itself is definitively free to use, Robert Sennecke died in 1940 and according to German law a picture turns into public domain if the photograph is dead for 70 years.

I am sorry if I misunderstood some tools/rules or did some grammar mistakes, but this is not the Wiki I use the most. However, please tell me what I should change, I would be happy to learn (; S60W79 (talk) 23:13, 24 February 2023 (UTC)

You did not break any rules, but, for example, one thing you did was you inserted a LINK to a file in the middle of a word. So not only did the file not show up properly, but you also put it in the middle of a paragraph in-between a word. Just double check your edits before submitting them. Different versions of Kim Il-sung's official portrait

Hi, @Yue! We've known each other from last year but my old profile (@Ентусиастъ:) got blocked a few months ago. I'm the guy that changed Kim Il-sung's infobox photo to the current one back then :) That being said, now to my question - do you have any idea why and where is it used (if at all) this second version of Kim Il-sung's official posthumous portrait - in it he's depicted with a kind of more elongated face and his suit is darker and the tie is different. In the internet, there can also be seen versions with a black suit but just as file-images and not real photos. This file is used in Death and state funeral of Kim Il-sung. @Statskvinde: I think the left portrait is a recent (as in some time in the 2010s) enhancement of the original portrait on the right. If you take a look at these photos from 2016, 2019, and 2020, they all use the variant on the left; you can tell by the red-ish tint of the necktie. Yue🌙 04:55, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

Proposed change

It seems that the proposed change is actually reasonable. All provinces of China share the same anthem and even in Wikipedia page in Chinese already included the anthem in the Infobox. There are recent incidents of some overseas international sport events had downloaded incorrect national anthem of Hong Kong from Internet using Google search. There is a genuine need for clearer and wider publication of this correct information to Internet users, especially to avoid confusion by English Wikipedia readers. For your re-consideration please. @Econ50Mode: Whatever content is on the Chinese Wikipedia has no bearing on what the content should be on the English Wikipedia. For example, the equivalent article for China on the Chinese Wikipedia is 中華人民共和國, not 中國; the consensus has consistently been to use "China" when referring to the People's Republic of China because the former is commonly understood to mean the latter in the English language. If you are certain about your proposal, take it to Talk:Hong Kong, not my talk page. However, I assure you that a supermajority of the community will be against your proposal simply because it is redundant and thus not common practice on the English Wikipedia. Hello! First off, thank you for your contributions to Lin Liheng! I have a question, however.

This passage seemed a bit strange to me: "In 1984, she was admitted to a hospital after suffering from severe allergic reactions to the pesticides being produced at a factory near her home." The citation link is broken (leads to a 404'd Sohu article). I checked blame logs, and noticed this prior removal citing WP:DEPS: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lin_Liheng&diff=prev&oldid=988355100&diffmode=source That citation is still live (https://hk.epochtimes.com/news/2020-06-22/13802888), and states: 直到1974年7月31日，空軍政委高厚良向林豆豆傳達毛澤東的「最高指示」：解除監護，允許她同張清林往來。經中共政治局討論決定，林豆豆被下放農場勞動改造。1974年8月初，林豆豆和張清林來到黃河灘上的一個農場。農場最初安排她給果樹打農藥，農藥引起她皮膚過敏，渾身紅腫搔癢。後來，安排她牽牛種地。再後來，安排她鋤草、餵豬、做酒等。 Which appears to be more logical, and I do not think would constitute WP:SYNTH.

Do you have any thoughts on this, considering that you are both a more experienced editor, and more well-versed on this topic? I think that at least the Sogu link needs to be repaired or some archive found (there are several references to the broken page), but perhaps there is another source on this detail of which you may be aware which would not fall under DEPS?

@Top5a: Thank you for noticing that oddity. I will look for a suitable source to verify the information given in The Epoch Times article, as I have access to a database of scholarly sources and it should not be too difficult if the information is undisputed and uncontroversial. In my opinion, the original citation of The Epoch Times article is not a problem because in context it is not making an opinionated or unsubstantiated claim, but because the source is wholly deprecated, readding it would just alert other editors (including myself) to remove it. Excellent! Much obliged. I did take a few cursory ganders through some of the other sources via WikiLibrary, though did not see anything substantive (I admittedly did not look closely).

As I can tell from having inspected your pages, and as you can probably tell from glancing at mine, we are on a similar frequency, so to speak, with regard to countering the persistent WP:POVPUSH. I do often encounter blanket removals from the other side of the proverbial fence, so to speak, i.e. 官方媒体、 even when the sources cover apolitical topics and moreover provide the only extant sources on particular topics relating to happenings within the PRC. In this case, though, indeed I am still skeptical somewhat, considering that not only is the source 法＊D, but the article itself is entitled 《林彪之女林豆豆被整得死去活來》 which is certainly assertive. Still, at least that passage seems more plausible (I know I am not supposed to evaluate, re: WP:TRUTH, but epistemologically if there is no Truth, anyway...) than the contrary.

While you may be correct that the NYT article cited one observer team, the previous conclusion is not supported by any credible publication i.e. "Biafra made a formal complaint of genocide against Igbos to the International Committee on the Investigation of Crimes of Genocide, which concluded that the actions undertaken by the Nigerian government against the Igbo amounted to a genocide"

Hello Yue, I am an editor of Chinese mythology. I recently came across information that states that some temples of Huaguang Dadi are dedicated to Princess Iron Fan due to a story about their marriage in "Journey to the South" see source. I find this quite intriguing and would like to know if this story really exists. According to the source, Princess Iron Fan is a folk character who is worshipped and has temples dedicated to her. Unfortunately, I am unable to translate the content from the source. As a native speaker, could you please assist me in finding the story? I am looking to expand my article with this information. Nation Seal of the Republic of Korea

You said yourself that "National Seal of the Republic of Korea" is a proper name. It's also written in uppercase in the Wikipedia article.

In your linked government website, it's also written in uppercase when referring to the concrete seal of South Korea ("Article 6, Regulations on the National Seal"; "Korea’s National Seal"). @Maxeto0910: Are you going to link me a relevant site policy or are you going to reiterate your personal stylisation choices to me again. I do not make arguments, I cite the stylisation policies on Wikipedia. "National seal" in the infobox is not supposed to be a shortened version of the proper name like you are trying to suggest it is, the same way "Flag" and "Emblem" aren't. If that were the case, why is it not "National Emblem" on the South Korea article, and similarly on others?
Also, regarding:

That's because "Article 6, Regulations on the National Seal" and "Development of Korea's National Seal" are section headings / titles. In the English language, that's a common stylisation choice, so much so that Wikipedia has policies against it. Not that it matters though, because we're not talking about article headings.
I also have no idea what you were trying to say about North Korea and Wikilinks
"The caption is for the image specifically showing that of North Korea, as is the wik link, so it's an abbreviation for the "National Seal of the Republic of Korea". If the caption would link to the general wiki article, which has to be written in lowercase, your argument would make sense."
Regardless, what's written at North Korea or what the Wikilinked article is (Seal of South Korea) is wholly irrelevant. Using capitalized letters in a term which is wiki-linked to the specific national seal of South Korea (which is normally capitalized) and therefore a proper name is not a personal stylisation choice of me, but a stringent execution of Wikipedia's site policy; MOS:PROPER states that proper names are "typically capitalized."

Using capitalized letters in a term which is wiki-linked to the specific national seal of South Korea (which is normally capitalized) and therefore a proper name is not a personal stylisation choice of me, but a stringent execution of Wikipedia's site policy; MOS:PROPER states that proper names are "typically capitalized."
Applying MOS:PROPER in that way assumes that "national seal" is a proper name. I cannot believe I am trying to argue with you that "national seal" is not a proper name, even if it is a shortened version of a longer, more detailed name. This should be obvious to you from conventional English grammar knowledge. A hint to you should be that, if it was a proper name, the ROK government website would capitalise their own symbol's name in their writing, which they do not. Case in point:

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

In regard to PPC Page Edit

As per WP:BRD, I would like to discuss the reversion made to an edit on the People's Party of Canada page. In light of recent revisions to the | party platform, it seems as though the statement that gender identity would not be included should be updated to signify the changes that have taken place. In addition, as it is a different section in the platform, I feel as though it would be right to make it a section under Principles and Policies. I was unaware of using any 'dogwhistles,' and was simply using the language as I was presented with in the source material. I would gladly make a compromise on the language used, as prescribed in WP:NPOV, so long as the factual content remains consistent with the views of the party.

In summary, I think that the recent changes in the party platform in what the PPC calls "Radical Gender Ideology" (not my words, nor do I agree with the ) should be reflected in the Wikipedia page for the party. I look forward to reaching a suitable consensus.

@ZachT1234: You can go ahead and revert my revert of your edit, but I guarantee someone else will revert your edit because your tone is really off and your writing is very vague.
Take for example this sentence you wrote:

Would be banned ... under what context? Obviously you mean if the PPC formed government, and through their interpretation of Canada's obscenity laws. So why leave that detail out?
Also, I don't think you're doing this intentionally, but "homosexuality and transgender issues"?

If you quote someone verbatim, use quotation marks, otherwise the person you're quoting becomes the voice of the article. If you're writing this in your own words, why are you being so vague?

What's even the point of this sentence? Why leave out the "conspiracy theory" bit? "The platform also references the Cultural Marxism conspiracy theory."
Wikipedia is not a news site, you update articles by changing what they used to advocate to what they currently advocate, not by saying "new update to the platform" (it's obvious!).
NPOV also does not mean uncritically copying or paraphrasing party platforms; that's not what Wikipedia is. We're not webhosts for organisations. If an organisation wants to advocate conspiracies, they should be doing it on their own website.

Hi Yue,

I've seen that you've added Sarikoli texts and place names to several articles about Xinjiang's "Tajik Autonomous" subdivisions. First, I'd like to thank your effort in doing so, much appreciated. This was a bit of an important information that was missing on Wikipedia.

Second, I'd like to ask you what your source is, if any. Or are you just transcribing information from Gao Erqiang's dictionary in Uyghur orthography? In my personal opinion that's okay too.

Third, was going to ask you, that if possible, could you add Sarikoli texts in Uyghur orthography for the table at Taxkorgan_Tajik_Autonomous_County#Administrative divisions?

@BasilLeaf: I used a copy of Gao Erqiang's Sarikoli–Chinese dictionary to transcribe Sarikoli words from their Latin spellings to Uyghur orthography. The Uyghur orthography I used is tabled in the Uyghur alphabet section of the Sarikoli language article, which in turn is based on the orthography recorded in the following journal article:
Yang, Yi-fang 杨亦凡; Abdurahman Tursun 阿不都热合曼·吐尔逊 Aray Zangbek 阿来·藏别克 Qian, Wei-liang 钱伟量 (2017). I have a technical phonological discussion/question I'd wanna bring up.
As you may have noticed, the [o] sounds in Sarikoli seem to correspond to [ʌ, ɑ] sounds in Uyghur. Tashqorghan vis-a-vis Toxkhürghon
Now, a jump across the border and a look at phonologies of modern Tajiki and Uzbek languages, I'll show you this quote from the Tajik language page:

The open back vowel has varyingly been described as mid-back [o̞], [ɒ], [ɔ] and [ɔː]. It is analogous to standard Persian â (long a).

The article on Sarikoli language itself says this

*/o/ may also be heard as [ɔ, ʌ].

And when it comes to orthography, in Latin/Cyrillic orthography of Tajikistan/Uzbekistan, words that are written with الف/آ/ـا are written with "o".
So my question is, is it worth exploring whether Sarikoli vowels and pronounciations have underwent similar shifts as other languages in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan? And whether it's better to show the [o] sound with الف/ئا/ـا instead of ئو / و.
An interesting thing that I found that may be of interest to you, is this article in Persian Wikipedia fa:الفبای شغنانی. Shughni language being a closely related Pamiri language spoken in Tajikistan and Afghanistan with similar phonology, but having its own orthography, more so directly inspired by Persian and Pashto than Uyghur.

Green ETR flag

So is there an actual source saying it's blue, then? Cause the only ones listed in the file description are either drawings that don't show it or medals. NorthTension (talk) 17:02, 19 December 2023 (UTC)

@NorthTension: My opinion is that neither the blue nor green flag should be displayed until better sources are cited. (At the moment) the blue variant is based solely on photographs and the green variant is based on an incomplete written description which does not attest to its official use. Saifuddin Azizi described two flags in his biographical work, the other being a white flag with a golden Shahada, so why display only one of them? Yue🌙 21:37, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
I personally support Azizi's personal description but I can get behind removing the flag in the infobox, people will get upset over it though and I don't know how to stave off the inevitable edit war. NorthTension (talk) 22:04, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
@NorthTension: How about this: I will self-revert for now since my edit revived the discussion, write an explanation on the talk page of the Second ETR later, and until I can find sources to verify one or more of those three flags, I will not make a further change in this regard.
