Hi Doug. Thanks for your original comment and the need to cite a source for the change, which I believe I did in the second edit by including a link to the definition from the Merriam-Webster online dictionary. (I believe that to be a reliable source, however I maybe did not link to it in the best style for Wikipedia references). I found this "Secession" page while trying to link to the word secession in another Wikipedia article and on reading it, my concern was that the definition is incomplete. My concern is that the page is purporting to be a definition of the word Secession, and while I see that the page refers primarily to political secessions, the first sentence on the page is, compared to the definition of the word, incomplete in the extension of the definition: ie - "especially a political entity, but also from any organization, union or military alliance". I believe that holding the definition only to entities in the secular realm makes it incomplete and I believe that the addition of reference to religious entities is important to ensure the full scope of the word is communicated. However, it appears others do not, therefore I leave the content of this entry to those who wish to maintain that entry. Have a good day! Thanks! DRLN (talk) 07:31, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Dictionaries are not necessarily reliable sources. I've seen dictionaries define archaeology as the study of the past, despite the fact that it's the study of human activity through its material culture and can be done on contemporary culture. So we want secondary sources and in this case an actual discussion in the body of the article. I suggest you find academic sources and take them to the talk page.
