A cup of tea for you![edit]

Thanks for working on Fern Kupfer! She was tagged for PROD while I was offline, so I appreciate you taking up the task and expanding it! Well done :) Thank you. Enjoy a cup of tea! SarahStierch (talk) 20:02, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Dispute Resolution Board[edit]

Are you aware of this? Apparently you are supposed to say something there, but I'm not sure; I've been here on Wikipedia for more than six years, and had never seen the "Dispute Resolution Board" before... Happy New Year! Kraxler (talk) 16:36, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kraxler. Yes, I saw it and responded there. I have no intention of wasting my time further with either that editor or that silly article. Life is too short . Best, Voceditenore (talk) 16:41, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, I pulled out some time ago, too. Nevertheless, I find it strange that apparently the admins at AN and AN/I don't mind at all somebody trampling continuously and violently on about all policies and guidelines. I was called as "MOS waver", and will refrain from citing guidelines in the future. At a current RfA, somebody said "Wikipedia is dying", now I wonder... TRUCE[edit]

Lets put all the blame on wiki because of their bland ~(o:3 layout. I got a little too hot under the collar a bit too quick. I should not have been acting as if you didn't care about the edits you made. That wasn't what I was thinking - just the way I acted. I didn't take time yet to look at the reference you added for the Regiment yet. I would not be a bit surprised if they turn out useful. I thought I would write a little something first to thank you. ANEW[edit]

I am taking you at your word that you will not edit Van Rensselaer (surname) again, as you stated at WP:ANEW. Although you may not have intended at the time of the promise, in this way, you will avoid a block for edit-warring. Please be aware that if you do edit the article again, you risk being blocked.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:21, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Don't worry. I value my sanity too much :) Best, Voceditenore (talk) 19:30, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, then what are you doing on Wikipedia? Regards.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:39, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    SPI[edit]

Thanks for your hard work on Adeena Karasick. FYI, I have instituted an SPI with regard to editing on that page: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Safiasouthey. The old edits are probably too cold now, but the sudden appearance of FieraMichelle was just too much. Michitaro (talk) 20:10, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar for someone who deserves it[edit]

The Barnstar from Orange Mike is now here.

Thank you Mike! You're very kind. I admire your tenacious work on the COI spamming. I am becoming increasingly fed up with the lot of them. Is it my imagination or has there been an exponential increase in this dross since I started editing in 2006? It's a real plague—makes the project look ridiculous and wastes huge amounts of editor and administrator time. Meanwhile, decent articles by promising newbies languish in the 1500+ backlog at AfC, the majority of which are blatant advertisements.

But on a jollier note, a very Merry Christmas to you and best wishes for a happy (and fashion-free) 2013 . Voceditenore (talk) 15:33, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Substantial cuts to Port Washington Play Troupe page[edit]

Hello! I am a writer who is doing a lot of research and writing work around Port Washington Play Troupe. I noticed that you cut nearly all the content on Play Troupe's wiki, citing it as "blatant" use of Facebook content. I am the creator of all said content! Thus, I am only copying from myself. I removed promotional info per Wikipedia's guidelines, and did edit what I had to be "just the facts." All information is verifiable via the source that I included. However, I absolutely welcome your feedback as I'm new to Wikipedia and want to do what's best. Should I be rewriting all that content so that it is "new?" Perhaps you could restore the text that you cut and I can work on it from there. Let me know what's possible and what you recommend, and thank you for your interest in Play Troupe.

    Literature[edit]

Thanks for the list of foreign literature with English article titles! I don't want to blow up the Dutchman any more. - PumpkinSky and I spent a month last year improving Kafka, now a FA, so I know that Das Schloss is The Castle in the English Wikipedia, but the article has a piped link for his works for instances that don't refer to the translations. - Probably I have very high quality standards now, too high? The talk of the Wagner has my points, some taken, some I gave up (infobox), some replies say fine if you do it (language templates, references) - but I don't love Wagner ;) - There are still four months to improve that article, too early to talk about stability vs. quality, I think. - I miss PumpkinSky. Now I have to represent WP:QAI, - I do what I can, it's limited, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:55, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Notification of discussion[edit]

A few months ago, you participated in a discussion on Wikipedia talk:Did you know about Gibraltar-related DYKs on the Main Page. I am proposing that the temporary restrictions on such DYKs, which were imposed in September 2012, should be lifted and have set out a case for doing so at Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Gibraltar-related DYKs. Thank you for tremendous reliable support of the opera scene in general and my efforts in particular, teaching me and others patiently about sourcing and style, creating and expanding articles almost before I ask (La Petite Bande, Stefano Bernardi), setting the scene for unknown composers and their work. Comment from Veritas411[edit]

Hi there, as you could see. I added my statement right back. I deleted it at first because I was unsure if that was the best way to get the situation resolved. Thanks for agreeing to keep an eye on Julie Menin's page. Veritas411 (talk) 20:14, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The above was in response to this discussion. Voceditenore (talk) 10:05, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw that you re-added it a few minutes later, but part of the problem at Julie Menin stemmed from you and two other single-purpose accounts [2] [3] repeatedly reverting without leaving edit summaries or discussing the issues on the talk page. This is required of all Wikipedia editors. Those who are here simply to maintain articles about themselves or their associates are not exempt. The next time there is an issue at that article, I expect to see you discussing it on the article's talk page and to abide by the guidance of the other pages I asked you to read [4], [5]. I know nothing of notability for operas, but I can't help thinking that this one should have a page:

    If you say "probably" I'll get to it almost-instinct 10:25, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Both the composer Stuart MacRae and the librettist Louise Welsh have articles (albeit not very good ones). Also reviews in The Guardian [6]], The Telegraph [7], The Stage [8]. The South Bank Award clinches it. So I say go for it. By the way, I see you took the red pencil to Lisa Giobbi. Well done! :-) Voceditenore (talk) 10:54, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any page for a recent opera which you would recommend I use as a model? I just looked at The Minotaur (opera) and felt it to be okay-ish - but imagine there's a better one almost-instinct 11:04, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say to use In the Penal Colony (opera) as a model, but adapted to the relatively short performance history, i.e. Edinburgh, tour of several UK cities, then ROH, all with the same production. Suggest these sections:
    1. Background (For such short and newish operas, I generally include the scoring and running time in this section as well as who commissioned it and why, how it fits into the careers of the composer and librettist, etc.)
    2. Performance history and reception (include the SB award here)
    3. Roles
    4. Synopsis
By the way, here's a review of the ROH performance from The Evening Standard. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 11:34, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great, I'll hopefully do it this evening. Thanks for the extra refs almost-instinct 14:32, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, did rather a less good job than I was hoping for. I shall see if I can find more information about how the piece came to be commissioned yet. The reviews seemed to offer no consensus about the quality of the music; even the criticisms are inconsistent. So I only quoted, so far, the review which offered some solid description of what it sounded like. But more polish needed. Editing other people's stuff I find to be so much easier ;-) almost-instinct 09:09, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I was trying to sort out the referencing for myself, but thanks to the edit conflict I've lost my place - I did put the under construction tag up :-( almost-instinct 10:02, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry :{ I didn't notice the tag until after I had messed around there. I'll let you get on with it, but they seem OK now. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 10:06, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    On Simple English Wikipedia[edit]

On Simple English Wikipedia, you made a comment on Starship9000's page. I know you are not an administrator, but given your high level of experience, I thought I should let you know that the editor is a middle school student who has been blocked for a year from English Wikipedia for persistent rule violations. Andrew327 19:05, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Andrew, I know about the block, I've been following the saga. His age doesn't surprise me. I primarily edit here and only very occasionally at Simple. I went to check his work there when I saw that folks were recommending he try it. On the whole, they don't do a priori blocks because of blocks on other projects, only if the editor starts causing problems there too. Who knows? It might be right environment for him and he'll do OK. He certainly started adding attribution templates once I told him about it. I've put him on my watchlist there. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 06:56, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm certainly not supportive of a preemptive block, and I share your hope for improvement. If he becomes a good editor at Simple, he should be ready for en.wiki in a year. Andrew327 19:17, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
He began editing in bad faith across several Wikis and has been globally locked. Andrew327 16:21, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    L'incoronazione di Poppea[edit]

Hi, I am new as a Wikipedia editor and have been referred to you by the user "instinct" for early assistance, since I seem to have clashed with the editing procedures of the site, which I would very much like to avoid. I am an opera researcher who has recently published a long historical article on "L'incoronazione di Poppea" and the singer Anna Renzi in Cambridge Opera Journal, and therefore I have updated the articles on those two topics, mainly drawing on the materials I present here. Whereas the Anna Renzi article is a stub, the Poppea article is a featured article, and hence I understand that my revisions may not be well received. I would be very grateful if you would take the time to look at those two articles (or on the Poppea one, anyway) to suggest how I might avoid starting an 'edit war'. Best, Stockholm Opera (talk) 10:28, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi.Well done on expanding the Anna Renzi article! I commented on Talk:L'incoronazione di Poppea about those issues. My suggestion would be that you continue to join in the dialogue there. In the meantime, I'll contact the principal author(s) of the article to get their input as well. A really important thing to remember is that if your edits are changed or reverted, take the issue to the talk page, don't simply revert back again, tempting as it may be. It's the road to perdition . More often than not, if an experienced editor has reverted or modified your edits, they have a good reason and it needs to be discussed. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 17:32, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Ethel Smyth: Der Wald ??[edit]

I've become interested in this composer since you announced her name for March project. There's a fair bit online that covers Der Wald 's New York performances, so I thought I'd have a go at putting an article together - unless, that is, you've already leapt ahead or wish to do it. Please let me know. Viva-Verdi (talk) 19:08, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That's great! Please go ahead with Der Wald. I'm just going to work on Fantasio for now. I have a jstor subscription. If you don't, and need any stuff from there, just let me know. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 19:15, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent; I've started on this. Re: JSTOR: if you come across anything useful, please send in any form. I do not have access. Also, I did find the following:

    WP Composers in the Signpost[edit]

The WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject Composers for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions, so be sure to sign your answers. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. –Mabeenot (talk) 08:05, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mabeenot, I'm not a member of that project. I just comment on that project's talk page once in a while. So I won't be participating in the interview. Re:Category:Operas set in China[edit]

Why bother? My new category is a subcategory to it.NeoBatfreak (talk) 08:36, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The above is in reply to this. Voceditenore (talk) 08:54, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm aware of that, but it forces the reader who is simply looking for the relatively small number of operas geographically set in China to click on multiple sub-categories based on time+geography to find them all. The new categories, are in my view too small to be viable and a case of over-categorization, but that's another issue. Voceditenore (talk) 08:54, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've got rather blocked on the Edith Smyth article, given very limited info except for the Met broadcast. But, I shall persist.

Anyway, I see that the opera noted above is on our list for expansion, so I've begun work on it. I did come across a reference to this article:

A LOST OPERA BY ROSSINI Music and Letters (1964) 45(1): 39-44

and wonder if can access it through JSTOR? If so, maybe you could get it to me. I've got both Osbornes' books as ref, and there is more in R.O's. that I'll use, but maybe Porter's article will help too.
