Delhi riots book

I ended up starting the article. I was surprised partly by the credentials of the authors, and had heard enough of it to know an article mihgt just be in the making. Thanks for pointing it out as a AFC. DTM (talk) 13:12, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

September 2020

You reverted some changes that I made to a page, stating they were unsourced. On a page where nothing that is there currently is sourced, and a bunch of stuff is wrong (including an address that hasn't been current for four years now). If you are going to insist on incorrect information existing on the page, then please just remove the page entirely. It is not representative of our organization and I've had multiple complaints from our staff members about the inaccuracy of the page. I'm sick of dealing with this crap. I can't use our own website as a source of what our correct address, name, and other information are, so I'm at a loss as to what do to. TC Palm articles are not free, no idea if I can use them. https://www.tcpalm.com/story/news/2019/07/16/st-lucie-school-districts-headquarters-expected-open-mid-august/1716739001/ Slcsb (talk) 20:35, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

WikiCup 2020 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished, with 865 points being required to qualify for the final round, nearly twice as many points as last year. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants with 598 and 605 points being eliminated, and all but two of the contestants who reached the final round having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were

  • Free Hong Kong Bloom6132, with 1478 points gained mainly from 5 featured lists, 12 DYKs and 63 in the news items;
  • IndonesiaHaEr48 with 1318 points gained mainly from 2 featured articles, 5 good articles and 8 DYKs;
  • England Lee Vilenski with 1201 points mainly gained from 2 featured articles and 10 good articles.

Between them, contestants achieved 14 featured articles, 14 featured lists, 2 featured pictures, 87 good articles, 90 DYK entries, 75 ITN entries, 95 featured article candidate reviews and 81 good article reviews. Congratulations to all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hello, TryKid. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "The Great Game in the Buddhist Himalayas".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! —Nnadigoodluck🇳🇬 00:57, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

Dawa Dem

I've fleshed out the Dawa Dem draft. I think it's ready for submission. What do you think? Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI (talk) 05:38, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the expansion, @Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI: I greatly appreciate it. I've submitted the draft for review. BTW, did you stumble upon on my user page from WP:INB? I guess that's a benefit of posting on noticeboards and keeping list of things to improve on the user page, :). Thanks and regards, TryKid[dubiousdiscuss] 11:48, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
Nope, I saw your barnstar that you awarded NedFausa for his work on SSR-related topics. I'd awarded him one too, and I got a notif because he'd thanked me for it. Btw, I have a picture ready to upload to Wiki once the article gets approved - if and when it does get approved, ping me so I can upload it. I've watchlisted the page and your page but I might miss it.
This is mildly exciting, being both my first collab and the first article that I've written from scratch... Also, what do you think of my new custom signature? Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 12:33, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
@Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI: I went ahead and accepted the draft myself since wait might have been long for this one, you can upload and add the photograph now. And perhaps nominate it for WP:DYK if it meets the requirements. Your custom signature looks quite good too. Thanks and regards, TryKid[dubiousdiscuss] 12:47, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, I've added the image. What do you think would be a good sentence to add to reflect an interesting fact about Dem? For DYK purposes... Cheers,Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 13:02, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
@Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI: Sorry, I don't really have the instincts to make a catchy and interesting hook. I started the draft because I thought being the first female bureaucrat and the Dasho was remarkable in itself. Perhaps that fact can be used for the DYK. Also, there's no need to create draft talk pages for accepted drafts. It needlessly clutters up things. Regards, TryKid[dubiousdiscuss] 13:45, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
@TryKid: I know, I just didn't realise that you'd already gone ahead with the article submission. Cheers, Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 13:52, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

@TryKid: Success! Dawa Dem DYKs in four days. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 15:06, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

@Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI: Great! Keiji Nishioka is also eligible if you nominate within a day (creation date is counted from when the article was moved in mainspace, so it's within 7, but not for long). He has been called the father of modern agriculture in Bhutan and was awarded Druk Thugsey, so writing a hook shouldn't be too hard. Give it a try for a quick second DYK and congratulations for providing some much needed non US, non anglophone subjects to the DYK project. Thanks and regards, TryKid[dubiousdiscuss] 16:08, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
@TryKid:Keiji Nishioka DYK is also approved. Pretty quick this time. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 15:12, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
@Wilhelm Tell DCCXLIV: congratulations again and much thanks for you service to humanity! :) If you're interested in Bhutanese history and writing another DYK, you should take a look at William Mackey (Jesuit). He had a big hand in introducing modern education in Bhutan. You can easily achieve 5× expansion on it using material from the book "The Jesuit and the Dragon". You can take inspiration from the format used for other Jesuit educators like John Early (educator) and other works by Ergo Sum (the FA icons on the user page link to similar featured articles written by them). Tell me if you're interested and I'll email the book to you. BTW, did you know that many say Wikipedia is "nearly complete" and there aren't many subjects left without articles? But that's not actually true, so many great and notable people from the history of often overlooked countries are buried in obscure, offline-only books kept at libraries. If you have access (I sadly don't) to big offline libraries in your location, I would recommend taking a trip there for some easy article creations. Regards, TryKid[dubiousdiscuss] 15:57, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Keiji Nishioka

On 17 October 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Keiji Nishioka, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Keiji Nishioka, a Japanese botanist, was the first foreigner to receive the Bhutanese honorific Dasho? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Keiji Nishioka. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Keiji Nishioka), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

WikiCup 2020 November newsletter

The 2020 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round going down to the wire. Our new Champion is England Lee Vilenski (submissions), the runner-up last year, who was closely followed by England Gog the Mild (submissions). In the final round, Lee achieved 4 FAs and 30 GAs, mostly on cue sport topics, while Gog achieved 3 FAs and 15 GAs, mostly on important battles and wars, which earned him a high number of bonus points. Botswana The Rambling Man (submissions) was in third place with 4 FAs and 8 GAs on football topics, with New York (state) Epicgenius (submissions) close behind with 19 GAs and 16 DYK's, his interest being the buildings of New York.

The other finalists were Gondor Hog Farm (submissions), Indonesia HaEr48 (submissions), Somerset Harrias (submissions) and Free Hong Kong Bloom6132 (submissions). The final round was very productive, and besides 15 FAs, contestants achieved 75 FAC reviews, 88 GAs and 108 GAN reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2021 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Nishioka

Have some money to spare lol? https://www.gettyimages.in/detail/news-photo/keiji-nishioka-is-seen-on-july-3-1989-in-bhutan-news-photo/966162988 Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 03:33, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI, I'm completely broke. :( But even if I had money, I don't it's possible to buy the rights of image permanently and make it a CC-BY-SA to post on Wikipedia. But we still have the free use option of the article. Or you can just add images by CFynn of the Pangbang bridge built by Keiji Nishioka. Here: File:Panbang suspension bridge.jpg and File:Bridges at Panbang 2019-12-13.jpg. Regards, TryKid[dubiousdiscuss] 08:53, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
Nah, I was merely jesting. But thanks for the bridge picture, it's gone into the article now, along with a map I made. Article's in GA Review, just thought I'd tell you that. Kind regards, Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 07:15, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI, shouldn't there be a freeuse portrait of Dasho Nishioka in the article? You can upload one of the available one. Also, there is another image named File:Chorten in Panbang.jpg, but no information on whether this is the "Nishioka Chorten" or some other Chorten. You're doing a lot of great work, thanks for that :). Regards, TryKid[dubiousdiscuss] 09:11, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
Also, the chorten in Panbang can't be the one to Nishioka; the one to him is in Paro. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 12:34, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
Tried finding a picture that I could claim free use for, and not one of the pictures has any info about who the original author or the copyright holder is. So I can't really assert fair use. I'll see what can be done about the Getty image. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 10:53, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI, I just noticed I said "free use" when I meant "fair use". A facepalm for me, sorry about that. I don't think you need information about artist/publisher/copyright holder to assert WP:FAIRUSE. Policy states that the name of copyright holder should be given "where possible". It's not mandatory. Just linking to the original page you found it on should he enough. Regards, TryKid[dubiousdiscuss] 12:11, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
No matter lol, even I meant fair use. I uploaded the Getty one, cropped to just Nishioka. Check it out, it's in the article. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 12:30, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
Just to be sure, in the Getty pic, Nishioka's the one on the right, isn't he? No matter, I confirmed - it's on the Getty page itself. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 11:00, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

And it's done! Keiji Nishioka is now a GA. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 16:38, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

Do you know any Nepalis?

Help needed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Did_you_know_nominations/Chisapani_Gadhi. Seeing as you live in Bihar, and happen to know a Bhutanese, I wondered if you knew any Nepalis. Or can you understand Nepali yourself? Kind regards, Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI converse | fings wot i hav dun 04:22, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI, sorry, I don't know any Nepali speakers. The Dzongkha speaker I talked to was actually someone on Twitter, I don't know personally know any Dzongkha speaker too. I guess I could talk to some Nepali person on Twitter too, but I don't think that would be feasible in this case. Usedtobecool has already provided good translations of the sources. To compare the accurate meaning of the sources with the article (presumably that is what's needed for a new DYK review), one would have to understand the language more finely than what can be communicated on Twitter. regards, TryKid[dubiousdiscuss] 05:57, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
