Extensive revision adding new verifiable material[edit]

I’m planning to add more material to this article, probably in several stages, in collaboration with the article’s originator, whose username is Adamkoszary. Most if not all the new material will be taken from the subject’s biography, Michael O’Connell: The Lost Modernist, by Prof. Harriet Edquist, Melbourne Books, 2011. I am the subject’s son, but I shall not be adding anything unverifiable. I’m hoping that the Wikipedia administrators will be reassured that my contribution is not an unacceptable breach of the conflict of interest policy.

@Adamkoszary:

Artwork from Michael O'Connell (artist)[edit]

FYI, I've started a discussion at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2022 April 18#Non-free images Michael O'Connell (artist) since we have some fairly stringent rules about using WP:Non-free content here on Wikipedia. VernoWhitney (talk) 13:37, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tpsoconnell. While I'm pretty sure your intentions are only the best, you might want to stop directly editing Michael O'Connell (artist) for a bit and instead follow the suggestions given here. A lot of the changes you made (not just with respect to the adding of images) are not really in accordance with Wikipedia:Manual of Style and some of the things added might even be considered Wikipedia:No original research. I can totally get your desire to have the Wikipedia article written about your dad be as up-to-date and accurate as possible, but perhaps it would instead be best from here on to propose changes on the article's talk page and let others more familiar with Wikipedia's various policies and guidelines help assess them and figure out whether they're OK to make. If you're looking for specific users to help you improve the article, you might find them at Wikipedia:Visual arts or Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Arts and entertainment. The members of those two WikiProject might be able to help you navigate Wikipedia's various rough spots. Please understand that the template I added above and this post aren't intended to imply that you're doing or have been doing anything wrong; they are only intended to provide you with information that might help you avoid problems related to your editing the article. Although COI editing isn't expressly forbidden by Wikipedia, it's highly discouraged because it can occasionally lead to some serious problems: not only problems from and article content standpoint but also problems between editors. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:45, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
