There is a page with letters listed with names under them. I would like to add a name for which there is not yet a letter. How do I add the letter.

Nothing shows up when I go in to edit it. Nothing! No letters, no names. If something did, it would be easier, I think. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Canadian_missionaries Suemcp 23:41, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

I have been told that I have to create an article on wikipedia and then link that up using Category:Canadian missionaries at the end of it (thanks CM). Elsewhere on wikipedia I simply placed a link to an article on my website. Can I not do that with this category page on missionaries?

Hi. The page you are talking about is a category page. These are pages whose content is constructed automatically: at the end of the usual articles, you can find a list of categories that the article belongs to. So if you add Category:Canadian missionaries this article will indeed be automatically added to the category page. As for links to your website, it is not considered a good practice to add external links to category pages. Actually, adding links to websites that you own or maintain is generally discouraged. Hope this helps! Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 10:53, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Commentary in article Marc Lepine[edit]

Use the discussion tab to find an article's talk page.

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! I noticed that you recently added commentary to an article, Marc Lepine. While Wikipedia welcomes editors' opinions on an article and how it could be changed, these comments are more appropriate for the article's accompanying talk page. If you post your comments there, other editors working on the same article will notice and respond to them and your comments will not disrupt the flow of the article.

Also, be sure to sign your posts on talk pages with four tildes (~~~~) – this will automatically produce a signature so other contributors can identify multiple posts from you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page! And again, thanks for your help! Dina 16:18, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your additions to this article. While your analysis is interesting, it's more like Original research than an encyclopedia article. Please read the links I've provided just above to learn more about how to contribute to articles. Cheers. 16:22, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

École Polytechnique massacre[edit]

I reverted that portion of your recent edit to École Polytechnique massacre that made the sentence read "known for 17 years as". While i agree that that sort of language is more poetic, it doesn't work in a durable encyclopedia because it's only true for one year at most; someone would have to update it on every anniversary of the massacre.

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly, as you are doing in École Polytechnique massacre. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. Rather than reverting, discuss disputed changes on the talk page. The revision you want is not going to be implemented by edit warring. Thank you.Dina 20:58, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on contributors; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. -- Chabuk T • C ] 21:18, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since it's clear that those of us talking to you on the École Polytechnique massacre article are not really getting through, I have put together a Request for Comment on your behaviour. I am hopeful that this process will help you understand that you are not being targeted by biased individuals, but instead, repeatedly breaking guidelines and policies. There is a section for you to respond on the request called "Response". You may edit that section. Cheers. Dina 19:26, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's important that you respond to the complaints against you. If you feel you need help, you might consider contacting Association of Member's Advocates to find someone to help you navigate the process. Dina 22:39, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

8 January 2007[edit]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in École Polytechnique massacre. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.

Under the provisons of WP:EL, it is clearly inappropriate for you to add a link to a website that you control. Stop doing it.

Re: Ecole Polytechnique Massacre article and 'Dina'[edit]

Hi, there. I looked over the situation, and while I cannot offer to informally mediate at this time, I would like to inform you that it is indeed improper for you to add an external link of a website you own per Wikipedia:Conflict of interest: 3. Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your corporation in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam). Also, it would be improper for Dina to block you as she is involved in this edit conflict, but an uninvolved administrator would have to be the one to do it (that is, assuming if any blocking is even called for). I haven't had time to look into the rest of the edits, but I just wanted to clear up the part about the external link. My suggestion would be to outline on the talk page of the article what exactly you would like to see changed about the article and then ask for users to briefly comment on it. It is usually best to engage in discussion first and not to edit unless there is some sort of consensus for potentially controversial edits, of course :). Capital letters; protocol[edit]

Hi Suemcp. I've had a brief look at your struggles at École Polytechnique massacre. Its beyond me. I do have one suggetion to make. Do not type sentences or phrases in capital letter unless you want to indicate that you are shouting. To put it another way; the convention with emails and wikipedia edits is that words in capital letters are read as "shouting". As in real life, most people respond to being shouted at by being less generous and less understanding. If you want different type faces click on the blue "edit this page" tab above and see how I have used ' marks to make a bold and a italic typeface. Good Luck. MedCab Case: École Polytechnique massacre[edit]

I have corrected your application for MedCab Case: École Polytechnique massacre. However, I don't know that you understand the purpose of MedCab. We do not monitor users or implement disciplinary action. We do not advocate for editors either. Our role is to provide informal mediation in matters where two or more editors are willing to participate in open dialogue to resolve a conflict. You were not clear in your application if you were willing to work openly and in public so I have not contacted the other party. I do recommend public discussion as it lends itself to more fruitful and efficient progress than conversation by e-mail. As well, at once an issue is resolved the public discussion serves to educate future editors about issue which have been debated previously. If you would like to proceed with this mediation as me as your mediator please edit the discussion section of the MedCab case and indicate that you accept me as your mediator and wish to proceed. Further, please indicate if you wish to proceed publicly or privately. Alan.ca 22:17, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • As it has been a week since my attempt to contact you, I will now be closing the case. Alan.ca 15:45, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
