ARCA

An amendment request, requesting suspension of Remedy 3 of Catflap08 and Hijiri88 case has been archived at Wikipedia talk:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Catflap08 and Hijiri88. The case has been amended as following:

Remedy 3 (Hijiri88: Topic ban (I)) of the Catflap08 and Hijiri88 arbitration case is suspended for a period of six months. During the period of suspension, this restriction may be reinstated by any uninvolved administrator, as an arbitration enforcement action, should Hijiri88 fail to adhere to any normal editorial process or expectations in the area defined in the topic ban remedy. After six months from the date this motion is enacted, if the restriction has not been reinstated or any reinstatements have been successfully appealed to the Arbitration Committee, the restriction will automatically lapse.

Passed 8 to 0 with 1 abstention by motion at 12:38, 2 January 2018 (UTC)

Picture request

Hello, I sent you a message requesting some photographs of Ryukyuan mon coins some time ago on Wikimedia Commons but reckon that you're not as active there so I will ask it here. Can you upload a few photographs of some of the coins mentioned in the Ryukyuan mon article? The oldest coins are usually only worth around $ 5,- and the newer ones are probably in musea. I want to add illustrative images to the article but there are no images of pre-Japanese Okinawan coins anywhere in Wikimedia Commons. --Donald Trung (Talk 💬) (Sockpuppets 🎭) (Articles 📚) 12:07, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, I’ve been busy for the last few months. I’ve actually been trying to get my hands on some Ryukyuan coins for a while, but the only museum I’ve seen them in was one where photography was forbidden. I’ll look next time I’m in Okinawa. ミーラー強斗武 (StG88ぬ会話) 15:58, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Images of Japanese numismatic charms

I've written an article about Japanese numismatic charms, and with a simple Ecosia search find a lot of results, currently there is only a single image on Wikimedia Commons of this subject from the Etnografiska Museet (Sweden), maybe Okinawans have a whole different type of amulet culture as they were "more Chinese" under the Kingdom of Ryukyu but honestly I can't find much information on the Okinawan charm culture by search either in English or Japanese. Do you visit museums a lot? I know that most members of the military are history buffs so I assumed so. Are there a lot of museums in Okinawa? --Donald Trung (talk) 18:31, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

@Donald Trung: There are lots of museums in Okinawa, but I’m not currently there. I know of Omamori and Magatama being used as charms, but surely there are also coin-like charms as well. ミーラー強斗武 (StG88ぬ会話) 19:15, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September.
