Retirement

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

the title says it all. SIX YEARS i think was a good run, but i don't feel productive anymore and "in high wiki-spirits" so to speak. More at WP:FOOTY if you wish to read.

All the best for you in and out of wikispace, kind(est) regards from Portugal - --AL (talk) 15:00, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

greetings

hi, I have been editing, just not too active around WP:FOOTY for a while. The role of West Bromwich Albion is to defeat teams such as Liverpool and Chelsea, so that we can hear endlessly in the media about the shortcomings of these clubs. I have a feeling that if we won the Premier League 10 years in a row, we'd still be hearing more about what a disappointing season it was for Manchester United. Nevertheless, I am enjoying it while it lasts. The model for us a few years ago was Charlton and they ended up going down to League One. --Jameboy (talk) 15:54, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi Struway2. I've decided to renominate this article on FAC and would appreciate if you could spare the time to comment and/or vote. The previous nom failed because of a lack of spotchecks (I guess) so if you could also take a look at that, I would be grateful. Lemonade51 (talk) 16:36, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi there, i see you see i fulfilled my promise of leaving :)

regarding your message, again don't understand the tone you use (not the first time) with me in all fairness - title included - but let's go bit by bit:

1 - i did not say one negative word about User:Banana Fingers, really would like for you to point out in that direction if you are so kind; 2 - maybe it was an irrelevant part of my summary what i wrote about User:Timmy96, but i thought he REALLY was not welcome here (like all the users that make legal/other threats - a guy saying more or less "I dare you to block me" constitutes such i reckon). In the past, can't remember which year exactly, someone told the exact same thing to User:Zombie433, but i am noone to say who can and who cannot edit here, i'll admit it.

Regarding Timmy, really would like to know your opinion on him, other than the obvious "I want to be blocked": in the past, if you don't remember it (i do!), he reverted you on several occasions after you reverted him and/or warned him about WP:COPYVIO, and shows no sign of improving there. That's what i was trying to convey in my summary in the Paixão brothers, i apologize for it, but i plan to continue reverting him on sight, sans the idiot summaries. --AL (talk) 17:20, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

  • Understood. Regarding this bit ("Please ask GiantSnowman or some other editor whom you respect"), i hope you are not implying i don't respect you, I DO, always did, was only taken aback by the tone of your message, i apologize if it's not what i thought. Regarding Timmy's additions that you see as useful, i'll have a look later and reinstate what i can. Cheers. --AL (talk) 17:51, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi there. Just wanted to let you know that the IP you've warned twice recently, 88.90.191.20 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), is the same as the Norwegian anon we talked about in January. Doubt

Hi there STRU, AL here,

i am not even going to ask if the summary in Óscar Cardozo was directed at me because i know it was (one of my last summaries there was also exaggerated and also contained expletives yes - but an expletive does not always have to be an insult directed at someone, merely an outburst - but i think removing a reference in ENGLISH and adding other(s) in a FOREIGN language is totally wrong), i am only going to try and clear this doubt because i'm not going to be stupid and think i speak English better than an England native:

1 - is "net" not a similar verb to "score", in football? 2 - is "thrice" not the same as "twice"? I know both are very very very rarely used, but are they not correct English? In my writing approach, i try to avoid repetition of grammatical contents as much i can, instead of writing (example): "He scored a hat-trick, then the following match he scored another hat-trick, ending the season with a total of eight hat-tricks". That's not completely wrong is it?

I really really want to improve dramatically on my edit summaries, can't find a correct answer as to why i still (at times) fail miserably (my unmedicated bipolar condition is the best justification i can offer at the moment). Attentively, happy week --AL (talk) 19:17, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

  • It did, thanks for the headsup! --AL (talk) 15:40, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Mark Redshaw

He played in the Eerste Divisie for Oss so meets NFOOTBALL, but you're right about the inflation of his career (as evidence by the IP SPA which keeps on hijacking the article). I suggest we dissect each of the sources on the article talk page, determine whether or not we trust them, and if not remove all the information that is sourced to them so we are only left with the truth (or as near to it). Much obliged, thanks indeed, have a happy Christmas! GiantSnowman 17:13, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Was only trying to improve storyline: 1 - not having the words "season" and "he played X games" written all the time; 2 - this is the most important, he did not transfer to SPORTING'S UNDER-19, junior teams don't buy players i believe; 3 - i was wrong in having unpiped some club names again, i admit it.

You did not allow for ANY of my storyline changes, only the PC update and the player position wikilink correction, don't worry i won't edit Míchel's article again because i don't want it to look like i'm edit-warring or similar.

Happy 2013, from Portugal, sorry for any incovenience, t'was not deliberate - --AL (talk) 15:37, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

My mistake

Yes, I realised I made an error just after I clicked "save". Thanks for letting me know I did it right. Regards Pippin0490Talk 17:37, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Also, I have a question regarding timestamps for international appearances. You have removed the timestamp I added for Eunan O'Kane's international appearances and it makes me wonder if the timestamp is required only for club matches and only a date needed for international matches? If that is the case then I shall have to remove a few timestamps I have added in the past few minutes. Thanks. Pippin0490Talk 17:46, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

I'm affraid I still don't follow. Updating player appearances is pretty much all I do on here and I do it for Hull City players after every game providing one of the other members that do the same haven't already done it. It is my understanding that once one has updated the appearances & goals, that they update the date & time stamp to corrospond with their edit. Therefore showing other potential "updaters" that it has already been done.

With the player in question, I noticed that he did not have any timestamps, so following the advice of another long term member who updated the date & time stamps of another player (Stephen Kelly I believe) to the current date, to show that the stats were up to date. Though the member did not have to update any appearance information.

This is what I believe I was doing to Eunan O'Kane's wiki page. I checked on soccerbase (which I always do) and went back through the season to check that he has made no further internation appearance, which he hasn't. I therefore added a date and time stamp to show that the apearances were up to date as of today. I don't see what is wrong. If you could shed some light onto this, then great. Pippin0490Talk 18:12, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

I completely understand now and thank you for your help. I shall refraim from editing international matches from now on to be safe. Thanks again. :)

Hi there mate,

this person has finally responded, in one of his many many anon IPs' talkpage (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/92.20.70.34), can't say i understand fully what is he implying but i feel a little sick to the stomach of having uttered that "You're not welcome here" and maybe he saw it and that is why he said what he said.

Everyone deserves a second chance, and maybe he's indeed improved, even though i think his writing is still subpar after what i saw in Hulk (footballer), and he still (per same article) has a big penchant for overdetail, but what we don't need are my "holier-than-thou" summaries, that's a certainty, i would not have liked if someone, back in 2006, had said to me i was not welcome to edit here!

You can also, if you want, profit from that list of contributions seen in the second line and see how he's faring overall. One thing is for sure, if he's not he'll be nearly impossible to control, with his neverending array of IPs and all. It can also be i still have not gotten through that "I want to be blocked" utterance.

Cheers, happy 2013 - --AL (talk) 21:18, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Glad to hear you think he's improving. Thanks for your intervention; your message to him was much better than mine, but i don't think i was rude was i? --AL (talk) 14:05, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
  • The first one clearly yes it was exaggerated (but i did not report anything ultimately), but that was before the whole situation was resolved. The second, where? Ah, and i did not edit those anon to escape scrutiny, i: 1 - have a static IP, so i'm easily caught; 2 - edit as much logged in than off, don't ask me why mate, don't have an answer --AL (talk) 16:11, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
  • Yes, it lends itself to misunderstanding i admit, poor choice of words. I feel that match reports from sites that only have the scoreline/cautions/lineups are no better than the site itself, as i think that match reports should be precisely that, a REPORT, with a proper storyline attached as the ones from BBCSPORT.uk, UEFA.com or ESPNFC.com.

However, i should also be aware that thorough match reports as the ones found in newspapers/official club releases for the Iran Pro League (that being the case for Marco Paixão) are nearly impossible to find/understand due to (the obvious) language issues (unless the sites such as PERSIANLEAGUE.com have an English option), so in that case we only have SOCCERWAY.com, TRANSFERMARKT.com or ZEROZERO.pt, to name a few i know of. I also have to admit that such references do source the fact that X or Y player scored/was sent off in W or Z game, but on the other hand it does not source debuts and/or milestones, as UEFA.com for instance.

All in all, my summary was not aggressive but very poorly worded, i'll definitely have a look on that. Have a great weekend, sorry for (yet another) inconvenience - --AL (talk) 18:43, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Great explanation mate, thanks (and you can tell me i'm wrong whenever you like man, even if this was not the case). The only thing i'm afraid to do is forget all about the technical approach(es) required for this or that situation, as i told folks several times (don't know if this includes you, i think it does) i'm as dumb (perhaps lazy?) as they come regarding guidelines. If you had not told me, i'd NEVER know there was a (user-generated) difference between ZEROZERO/TRANSFERMARKT and SOCCERWAY.

Sincerely i thank thee, keep it up --AL (talk) 19:16, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Updating stats during the game

Alright, I'll try to stop, but could you tell User:Kante4 to do the same? He has constantly been updating Real Madrid stats during every game they play. Sorry, due to Championship games aslo taking place today I forgot that Blackburn were playing in the cup. Pretty much; I feel it should be immediately clear after each sentence or so where it has been sourced, to avoid things like this happening in the future. At the very least a significant re-word/copy-edit is required. GiantSnowman 14:51, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi there STRUWAY, AL "here",

can you please see that this article is deleted please? I keep forgetting how it's done! I do have a memo that GiantSnowman sent me in my archives, but even if (more when) i found it, i would not make anything of it, best leave it to the professionals.

Anyhoo, why do i ask this? Because this guy has, as of the end of 2011/12, the grand total of...ONE game in Segunda División B! And he still plays there.

As i said to you in the summary, please accept my apologies for what i did in Javier Patiño, it's just that the refs that have all the fields (publisher, author, date, access, etc) but have so in a manual way look rather shabby if you don't mind me saying so. Won't happen again.

Attentively, thanks in advance --AL (talk) 15:23, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi there. Can you check the references on this article. Would I be right in assuming that the narrative: "Appearances per season are sourced via the Season Stats dropdown menu at the bottom right of this page. The site is partly subscription-based, but only free-access sections are used for reference. If pop-up login dialogue boxes appear, press the "Cancel" button to proceed." " should appear against the first reference rather than the second? Cheers. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 10:48, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

Soccer Velho

Just out of curiosity. Where did you find all that. I did all the searches I could and I barely got anywhere (I usually gave up after 10 pages in google) and I even typed in words like "Santosh Trophies" and "National Football League" and even "Mumbai Football League" and I got nowhere. Good job... very good job. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 15:44, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Hm, did not think of all those. Its good for me, now that I know that. As for personal info, I dont think that matters. My main problem was that there was basically nothing, and I count former clubs and achievements as "personal" info. So what you have is fine and now I am willing to drop the AfD. Again thank you very much for A) The expansion of the page. and B) The new way to look for sources. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 16:03, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
Oh and I dont think you noticed but I changed my username from Arsenalkid700 to ArsenalFan700. Is it possible to create the kits for both sides. In this message section I have added links for you, to help you create the kits.

RE: Article assessment

Hello, thanks for your advice :)

Hum, it seems that I did some mistakes... I forgot to check if these teams were in the top division, and they were. You're right, they aren't low-i, they're probably mid-i.

I'll probably review some of my asssesments, because I forgot to check the criteria "top level league" properly, for the latest articles that I assessed. Again, thanks for your advice. GNozaki (talk) 10:23, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

Harmless Edits

Relax dude, this is a shared IP address and the person making these changes is only trying to improve articles. The references removed are dead and obsolete and the parameters have been altered to give them a less messy (more refined) look when editing.

Also in European & World football most people are more familiar with the metric system so that should be written first. In Champions League and Euro matches the players are referred to by their height in m or cm (not ft in). There's no need for threats. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.170.60.251 (talk) 00:44, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Reaching out

Hi there STRU, AL "here", how's it going?

i reach out to you because User:GiantSnowman is on one of his wikibreaks again: he told me that he felt like User:Lombriz de Aguapuerca, User:Xxxx693, User:190.84.51.146, ALL the same "user", were also this IP (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/190.84.80.134), he told that with a certainty of 99,99999%.

What did the first three do? Harass me with all "their" hearts ("crybaby", "faggot", racist abuse) after a small run-in in Quique Flores, i think you remember the incident. Snowman told me we'd have to wait to take action (or see if any action was worth taking) against the new IP because he was inactive at the time of my message to him. Well, now the person has returned (several edits today, yesterday and the day before), what is your intake on this if you please?

P.S. His edit in Fredy Guarín seems a bit persecutory (i edit massively there), not really sure (going against WP:COMMONAME for the umpteenth time), just a hunch. Attentively, thank you very much for whatever you can provide --AL (talk) 16:24, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

  • Speaking of 99,99999999% certainties, User:Satori Son (another great user/admin, no longer with us i'm afraid) told me he was pretty sure the accounts above and User:Scoelho86 were also the same as they edited from the same household, playing a "good cop, bad cop" mindgame with me, the first one harassing me, the second one comforting. I've never received a straight/definitive answer on that, still eats me up inside the doubt. To finalize it, i must be crazy to be doing something like this, it will definitely stir up another "worldful" or insults and personal attacks!

Cheers again, from Portugal --AL (talk) 16:28, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Reaching out - Part 2

Hi there STRU, AL "here",

again i ask for your highly valuable opinion: there is a discussion at WPFOOTY i "launched" last week, titled "Fábio Coentrão / Hélder Postiga", due to a run-in i had with a compatriot over these two guys' articles. Bottom line is that we have several sources indicating players were born in Vila do Conde, none saying Póvoa de Varzim but still he keeps adding the "citation needed" tag (i have not reverted him since the discussion).

When i asked that he provided sources, all he arranged was one from Internet Movie Database for Postiga, hardly reliable in face of all the other sporting sources wouldn't you say? Again, what do you think?

Cheers - --AL (talk) 21:26, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

  • I have browsed the Portuguese web thoroughly, found several references saying that both were born in VdC, Bruno Alves as you inserted in your statement was born in nearby PdV. I am not going to insert them in the articles just to get reverted again by the other guy, the UGLY "citation needed" tag stays, why should i bother?

About User:Joshuaforest (i see you have also messaged him), lost battle, he reverts people after they revert him, writes no summaries and does not talk to people, total package and has already been blocked more than ONCE... Cheerio! --AL (talk) 15:22, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I have restored the page history of this article. Thanks, GiantSnowman 15:37, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

  • Only now did i read your message to Snowman thoroughly, only had a quick glance previously: my request to reprieve the previous storyline(s) was because it contained a good (for his young career i mean) storyline, with refs, the storyline after the article was recreated was nothing more than his debut (out of the blue) with a match report for a ref. Hence, i thought my request was "desireable", but you're free to think differently of course.

Cheers as always --AL (talk) 20:16, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Darlington FC/1883 in the northern league

This club is NOT Darlington FC, it's a new club therefore the previous clubs history shouldn't be included. Romanticism is not a cold hard fact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.143.12.84 (talk) 16:17, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Help!

Hi there STRUWAY, AL "here",

i know i greatly disappointed you by losing it with User:Antony1821 and his socking ways after telling you already this year (!) i would not feed the trolls again, but i really need your assistance.

Could you please weigh in at Royston Drenthe (article's or User:Terje Christiansen's talk)? I have trouble understanding (maybe i never will) the PC/NT update. If Drenthe's last international match (and only!) was on 17 November 2010, why should the NT update read "21 March 2013" just because the edit was made then? Makes no sense to me man, i think i'm dumb!. The same (doubt) goes for PC of course.

I will not revert TJ, waiting for your input. Thanks and happiest of weekends. --AL (talk) 16:42, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Jordan Jivanda

You really didn't have to PROD this; all you had to do was point me in the direction of the evidence and I would have CSDed it (which I have now done). GiantSnowman 11:51, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

I was waiting for confirmation from Simon nelson on that, never got it and must have then slipped off my radar. GiantSnowman 11:59, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi there STRUWAY, AL "here" (working on another computer, much much slower, no patience to log in, situation fixed maybe tomorrow),

Maybe you could lend a hand (i see you are busy beyond WP tough) in this footballer's article, in his intro that is. Several users, the last one the ever aggressive User:Banana Fingers (insults everyone, i see you have warned him several times regarding something, he has not replied and has removed your stuff), keep adding SPANISH-FILIPINO instead of just FILIPINO.

Some people, in order to avoid ANY ambiguity, choose to leave that part blank. But it won't hurt if we write FILIPINO because he represents that country now internationally. But not SPANISH-FILIPINO most definitely.

Cheers, thank you very much in advance - --84.90.219.128 (talk) 21:55, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

  • In a nutshell, where do you think the storyline needs rewording? I'll take care of it (if Banana will revert me i don't know, most likely he will). --84.90.219.128 (talk) 15:15, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
  • See? A polite message from me to the guy resulted in more punk-like manners and aggravation, nice... I definitely should have been more careful/tactful in my approach to this user, but i (300% sure) was not aggressive or insulting. I have promised him i will never again engage in contact with him (last contact attempt, i talked about a mere technicality in Patiño's article - full names of clubs, "yes" or "no" - and get this response?) nor will i mention him: 1 - to other users; 2 - in my summaries. --AL (talk) 16:18, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Sorry for bothering you. --AL (talk) 19:47, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Puerto Rican vs American nationality....

Hey, I need you to chime in on WT:FOOTY regarding the nationality of both Taylor Graham and Kupono Low. It's pretty much the same debate we had a couple years ago. – Michael (talk) 06:39, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Jack McBean

I need access to the Arsenal books, online sources are hard to find because of the other player - but this McBean was one of Arsenal's first players, moved down from Scotland at around the same time as club founder David Danskin (in fact they had played together in Scotland). A notable figure in the early days of football. GiantSnowman 20:49, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

He was part of a team that won the Kent Senior Cup, the London Charity Cup and the London Senior Cup, as well as playing in the FA Cup. There's always been more leniency about early amateur players, I don't know why you are suddenly picking up this player. GiantSnowman 10:59, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
I'm sure there will be plenty of material about him in one of the Arsenal books to satisfy GNG, but alas I do not have access. GiantSnowman 11:45, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Hello,

I recently made the 2005 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira article which was a match between Benfica and Vitória de Setúbal in August 2005. Do you know anybody who can help me create the kits. In this message section I have added links for you, to help create the kits.

Benfica's Kit

Vitória de Setúbal's Kit

User talk:Alexgreene87, 8 April 2013 14:21 UTC

Yes there is!

Yes there is a section about it. It is very bad english to say as of match played. there is a reason you don't put this in the box on the right of the profile.

But fine. I'll start another discussion of it and prove you wrong and show that what mattythewhite is doing is wrong, though it should be obvious — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.40.254.182 (talk) 21:08, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi there and sorry again for bothering you,

per your message to him (and with which i agree ENTIRELY), what can be done with this user? He continues to remove runner-up stuff in honours (serious) and adding those ghastly numbers in the section (not so serious), and with ZERO words in summary, which you asked him to provide in your message as well.

Attentively, keep up the good work (even if i get no reply again, please "confide" this to someone at least if you please) --AL (talk) 23:37, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

  • Technically, i could not agree more with your question, it would have taken much less if i had reverted his stuff myself. It was just i: 1 - was "scared" at what i might find to cleanup, i told you man, spend already too much time in WP, gotta get a "life" at my age; 2 - wanted to see if further action can be taken against this user, action that i cannot implement.

Cheers back! --AL (talk) 14:23, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

English vs. Anglish

Now, for something completely different! In all this years of editing i (and most certainly you!) have come across writing in articles that would make a goat blush, but maybe yours truly has been insisting on a grammar error that would certainly merit scolding.

As follows: one could write, regarding the playing time that a given player receives by his club/manager, that the player is "utilized", or he is "first-choice" or an "undisputed starter", but what is 100% wrong is to write "X player was used sparingly" no? I mean "used" only has a negative conotation am i correct (as in "being used", "being deceived")?

Thanks again, "see" you around --AL (talk) 15:26, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

  • Puzzling...so you tell me you can say "X player was used", but then you can't ("fairly" being an adverb)? Please clear this grammatical doubt. --AL (talk) 16:32, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
  • In your example you said "frequently used", meaning the player got significant playing time. I though i could use "fairly used" to demonstrate a good but not tremendous amount of minutes. I'm not going to get all high in my grammatical horse and say i'm sure about anything regarding English language, but i thought fair (other than "just", "right", "correct") meant "so-so", or "more or less". Does it, or am i confusing it with another word mate?

Thanks again for your assistance --AL (talk) 17:33, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Admin

Hey. I've seen your footy edits around quite a bit, and was wondering if you're considered running for adminship at WP:RFA. I think you'd make a great administrator, and would be fine nominating you if you were up for it. Wizardman 16:20, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Just a quick message.

Hello again. I just wanted to express how disturbed I am about the IP user that referenced me in a discussion with you in WikiProject Football and their message to me that was about you. Such needless insults and aggression. Allow me to assure you that whilst I do agree with their stance regarding this "match played" nonsense, I do not agree with the way they went about it, the language used and most of all the personal attacks. Shameful behavior.

All the best Pippin0490 (talk) 15:27, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

  • Indeed I do and I believe that way is not to include "match played". Though, in all honesty, I'm really not bothered, it's just a personal preference. On a player's wiki page it'll keep changing between not having "match played" and having "match played" depending on the personal preference of the person that edits it. The only reason I can see it becoming a rule or whatever, is because the wiki "preset" is just to add "some of these ~" following "updated|" and it automatically comes out with "as of [date]". But, as I said, I'm not really bothered. :)

Kind regards Pippin0490 (talk) 18:42, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

Footy article

Hi Struway, I have a recollection of an article about a football player, I think it was linked on WT:FOOTY but I can't find it there, nor in your contributions, but it was something about a guy whose career stats were wrong due to an error at soccerbase or similar, and there was a subsequent note, inserted by you I believe, at the article with words to that effect. If it was you, and you remember the page in question, please let me know what the name of the page is; if, on the other hand, this makes no sense at all, please accept my apologies. Thanks, C679 15:50, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I recognise that one Rashid Yussuff. Very helpful. Thanks, C679 16:34, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Living hell

Hi there STRU (same message goes to User:GiantSnowman),

i'll try to defend what has no defense whatsoever, my edit summaries: i am an unmedicated bipolar individual, with almost zero social life. I have told you and others i would stop feeding the trolls over and over again, about time i stop being a hypocrite, i CAN'T, have zero tolerance for vandalism (for the record, don't know where you got that "info" that's implied in your message, i have NEVER insulted a non-vandal). My references to others language skills? What i mean in my summaries is (for example) i have no skills in Finnish or Hungarian, so i would not be caught dead editing in those WPs. But you are correct, there are better ways to refer to that in a summary (i.e. "Corrected wording" or "Corrected language").

The situation you both point out today, Nélson Oliveira: the article was vandalized over and over again by User:Zizozidan, who "claimed" player was Egyptian - i am Portuguese, so know that's 300% lie/vandalism. After one year with all quiet in the article's front, he returned as anon ("gaining momentum", i checked edit history and found out several anon IP addresses, all starting with 41 and "contributing" in the same fashion); upon discovering it i lost it, yes i know it's against WP guidelines, well aware of that, i don't do it to LOOK COOL and GO AGAINST THE GRAIN, i do it because I CAN'T HELP IT.

I have been blocked once for disruptive edit summaries (well deserved indeed), did not protest, if it happens again i won't either. Kind regards to you both --AL (talk) 14:37, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

P.S. (Struway only) Please don't think you adding a reference for his city of birth will stop the other guy from altering it, he's a VANDAL (obviously you can doubt my opinion, especially since my reputation from where you're standing is as low as it can get these days), he'll change it again! --AL (talk) 14:39, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

  • Added another reference for his birth place. Cheers, sorry for any inconvenience again --AL (talk) 14:56, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
  • You say it's poorly referenced? Again i beg to differ (thank god for democracy man!), certes it does not have 200 references but, other than the beginning of CLUB CAREER, it's fairly sourced i'd say --AL (talk) 15:01, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
  • A bit tardily, but here it goes: thanks for pointing me to the El Mundo Deportivo (newspaper) and its archive service (you did so late into last year, at WP:FOOTY), has been a real find in retrieving info for Spanish footballers in a 40-year span if not more.

Now, one question (and please note that i'm not doing this so that you validate my inexcusable summaries): don't you feel the frustration at times man, after you do extensive work in an article and then someone comes and destroys everything? It can be reverted just like that i know, but it's rubbish behaviour nonetheless don't you agree?

Cheers, happy weekend from Portugal - --AL (talk) 21:43, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

  • Yes mate, all that you pointed out is not vandalism (POV, TRIVIA, MOS), but what i saw in Nélson Oliveira was, period. Again, i have no business writing those summaries, period x 2. Cheerio --AL (talk) 18:22, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

NK Maribor players

Hello. Thank you for your review of the FL candidate NK Maribor players. I will try to address all the issues during this weekend. In case I will have further questions, I will write them here on your talk page (if not a problem:). Lep pozdrav, Ratipok (talk) 21:46, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Hello again:) I have done a lot of editing in recent days (still have some minor stuff that needs to be dealt with), and it would be very helpfull, for me, if you could take a look at the new "list of players" table lay out and see if things are in order. Any feedback would be appreciated and btw I would take you on that offer for doing a litle copyediting in the lead, if not a problem:) Thank you, Ratipok (talk) 15:49, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for your copyedit. Unfortunatley, the FLC was closed a bit prematurely while I was still workoing on the article. I will address all of you concerns and will renominate the list within this month. Lep pozdrav, Ratipok (talk) 12:48, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for all of your help. I have now nominated the list for the second time. Lep pozdrav, Ratipok (talk) 13:36, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
It is not problem at all, as I have all the time in the world:). I would like to clarify one matter though. On the previous FLC you expressed your concerns about the references of the internationals. I have put a general reference at the bottom, for those players that represented Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia and Yugoslavia. However, I couldnt find an individual statistics website for players of other countries (e.g. Albania - four players, Macedonia - four players) and have simply used their individual FIFA players profile, and added those as references. Lep pozdrav, Ratipok (talk) 12:11, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Nahki Wells

Hi, I wish I could take some credit for the season but unfortunately the club have yet to recognise my playing skills - a shame. As for Wells' stats, see RSSSF and NFT. GiantSnowman 10:00, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

I've added the USL referenced and removed the Dandy Town stats as incomplete. Cheers, GiantSnowman 10:39, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Keith Fahey

Normally I'd agree with you, but he's announced he's leaving the club, so unless we have a massive U-turn somewhere, he may as well be removed from the list. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 20:02, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

  • Seems sensible to me. Gutted we're letting him go, but that's how fucked up our finances are... Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 20:14, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Ah, OK, my bad - hadn't seen those. At least we are genuinely getting rid of some deadweight as well as Fahey... next year may be interesting though! Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 14:04, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi there STRUWAY, AL "here",

I guess you know that by now, i did not...User:TonyStarks sent me the article from the Egyptian site referred to in the article's talk, it's a hoax, we could say it was vandalism from OUTSIDE Wikipedia that "flooded" to the INSIDE of Wikipedia, thus resulting in a wrong article. Vandalism is the same wherever it happens, period.

Also, i don't think the new changes/implementations will stop the (bad)changes in the article, no matter how many (good)refs we insert and bytes of article talkpage we "consume", just revert and ignore i guess. Cheers - --AL (talk) 23:50, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

  • Reply NO but a reversion YES (i am sorry for not providing a summary though and using rollback)...This Spanish anon guy is making me crazy. I have told him several times (messaging him in SPANISH so there are no doubts) to: 1 - add a PC update when he updates the box; 2 - stop merging league and cup stats therein, he says "talk to the hand"; plus, he does so with a vaaaaaaaaaast array of IP addresses. AL over and out (for now). --AL (talk) 07:56, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Continues today with an IP different than that in Oliveira, now "contributing" in Riki. The player in question has 61/10 for Getafe CF in league, 67/14 if you count Copa del Rey (by the way BDFUTBOL.com is getting better by the day, now they also include Spanish Cup games so you can confirm what i'm saying), do you think the Spanish user cares? No, he inserted it again. Don't forget, if you choose to revert me you'll be inserting his wrong reversion.

On a related note, i have to ask you this question: now that the configurations have changed as far as new messages are concerned (before it was shown in orange colour and the words "you have a new message", now it's a notification thingy), does the same happen for anon IPs or just registered users? If the anons don't have it, maybe he has not noticed my new messages, but CERTAINLY he noticed my very first ones.

Cheers --AL (talk) 14:11, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the tip mate, indeed they were inflated (don't know if it was courtesy of the same guy), ironically he had one goal LESS :) Taken care of it, keep it up --AL (talk) 15:10, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
Again i appreciate the sincerity, but i NEVER said/thought all anons are vandals, and i only assume my last edit is right if (bearing the stats update case) the sites which serve me as guide are accurate, simple as that. Your "rollback pointer" was not very fair to me to say the least, and i'll immediately fill you in as to why i feel that: i rolledback the wrong stats to stats wrong the same, but i DID NOT KNOW those stats were wrong, only discovered it TODAY when you messaged me saying that Mr.Riki did not seem to have 213 games by any website; i cannot stress enough i know i more often than not use rollback unduly, and i told you last year i am prepared to have those rights taken from me if i am to misuse them.

But please Struway, bear with me on this one (the Spanish anon editing in Deportivo de La Coruña players): if a guy is told OVER AND OVER AGAIN not to add cup stats in box and to update the PC/NT when he adds new stats and he continues doing the opposite, does that not resemble vandalism? I must be missing something... --AL (talk) 16:41, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

  • Please check the edit summary note after my second edit in Fernando Amorebieta, how does that constitute or even resemble vandalism? Yes i know, all the more reason for me to ONLY edit logged in, but it's a bit silly no? --AL (talk) 18:58, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
NAUGHTY BITS? Well i never :) Take care, happy weekend --AL (talk) 21:33, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Per the Spanish anon's last edits, he seems to have understood now (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/83.52.52.63, did not understand some of the "experiments", but he left the correct stats). This AFTER your message, so he could not care less about my messages in his mothertongue, now heeds to yours in English?! Oh well, all's well that ends well (hopefully)... --AL (talk) 23:20, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Guess i was wrong, he (above) does not get it. Cheers --AL (talk) 20:43, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Bits and pieces

Hi there man,

per this discussion (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Honours), i'd like to say i'm not fully convinced. We can surely find reliable internet sources for honours won by assistants, but is it really necessary to add them to the list? Please do participate.

Heard it through the Premier League grapevine...if Wigan draws or loses today, they will be relegated am i not correct? They lose on everything to Sunderland, head-to-head and goal difference. Cheers --AL (talk) 14:23, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Sorry to have bothered. 1 - not going to lose my head over it, the honours (namely as in Tito Vilanova) stay as they are, we could go the extra mile and add the honours he and all the coaches had as assistant youth managers; 2 - Wigan did not win or draw against Arsenal, relegation befell, question answered. --AL (talk) 21:04, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

I agree with the reversion, but it appears like a legit edit: [11]. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 14:52, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

I am having the time of my life undoing the stuff this user's doing, have sent him several messages. Again i say, if my rollback rights are removed i won't protest, but i've been sending several messages to the guy, to no avail. If you notice, in Ayoze Díaz Díaz, he updates the PC and leaves the games THE SAME? What gives?

Profitting from this message, would you be so kind as to give me your two cents on the assistant manager honours or not? Thanks. --AL (talk) 17:51, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Barcelona in the 1955-58 Fairs Cup

Thanks for your message. I only mentioned the RCD Espanyol player because everywhere I could find, there is mention of him, so I assumed that this is an undisputed fact. Nevertheless, as you well said, I've never been able to match a name for such player. My changing the name to Barcelona XI is not based so much in the player, as in the team wearing Barcelona City colors and shield. It might have been the F. C. Barcelona team, but they were not, at least in this first edition, representing the club itself, but the city of Barcelona.

Now, if you look at this comment in the discussion page for the F. C. Barcelona article, you'll find an old post of mind defending the fact that it was F. C. Barcelona who won the cup. In the article for F. C. Barcelona, I think it is right to give credit, where credit is due, and the FCB did indeed win the cup. Nevertheless, since this article is for all Spanish clubs in Europe, I saw appropriate, as all actual references state, to mention that this Fairs Cup was in fact won by a Barcelona XI, a team for the city of Barcelona, regardless of where the players come from. What do you think?--Coquidragon (talk) 12:56, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

F.C. Barcelona didn't win the Fairs Cup technically, but, forgive me if I'm wrong, the Barcelona XIs were made up solely of Barca players, were they not? Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 12:58, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
All player rosters from that time include only F. C. Barcelona players. Yet, we find many indirect references to an unnamed R. C. D. Espanyol player.
About the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup article, I completely agree with keeping consistency among all cities/clubs. Nevertheless, sourcing is also very important, and I don't have sources for the other teams. I only had a source for the Barcelona City team. This brings me to a different point, which is that the first tournament was indeed a tournament for cities, not for clubs. I do think all teams should be changed to "City XI." Still, if you want me to change it back (or you want to do it yourself), I will agree.
About the La Liga clubs in Europe article, there is not a consistency problem, since there are only two teams mentioned, London and Barcelona, and by adding the "XI" to Barcelona, the consistency is kept. If I put an explicit comment in the body instead of the reference section, which as you well say, is never read by many, then would it be reasonable to keep the "Barcelona XI?"
Thanks for the exchange. When we finish the dialogue, I'll move the conversation to the Talk page of the La Liga clubs in Europe article for historical purposes.--Coquidragon (talk) 06:51, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

I remember you warned this guy to PLEASE don't remove runner-up honours in articles (especially the featured ones, i remember it well, but that's another story) without explanation. What did he do in João Moutinho? Well just that (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jo%C3%A3o_Moutinho&diff=555832072&oldid=555343638)! Speaking of warnings, i think he: 1 - has had more than his fair share of; 2 - has already been blocked, when is he going to be blocked INDEF? No summaries, no "talkey" to anyone, what is this?

Cheers, happiest of weeks for you --AL (talk) 21:58, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

  • I was not saying both editors were similar in M.O. just saying both had used socks, sorry if it seemed i was. Regarding your tips: 1 - no way i'm going to talk with JF, done and over with that, hence i preferred to "run" to you and ask you what you thought; 2 - WP:FOOTY discussion? Even though i've seen many many of us accept the inclusion of runner-up honours, it's not a 100% consensus from all the discussions i have witnessed, even though the vast majority says YES (and what sends me up the walls is JF removing the stuff without ONE WORD!); 3 - revert and ignore? Sure, that's a way to go mate no question, but it gets tiring after 10, 20 times.

Keep it up --AL (talk) 15:39, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Infobox datestamp - Reply

Hi there STRUWAY, how's it going?

two reasons why i don't use the automatic datestamp in players' infoboxes: 1 - i don't know how (honest to god or any akin deity), someone tried to teach me that last year, i failed miserably at it; 2 - i provide a summary explaining it was the player's last appearance of the season (in this case 2012-13).

About #2: yes i know, readers consulting the article won't read mine or any other summary for that matter, but hey, i think i'm included in the 10% of those who ACTUALLY write summaries. Cheers to you too. --AL (talk) 13:45, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Follow-up question mate, regarding also Lorenzo Melgarejo: why do we need the year in the picture caption, other than to needlessly (in my opinion, one as many) enlarge the infobox? --AL (talk) 17:16, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Keep in mind Melgarejo may only play for Benfica ONE SEASON, hence it's not very needed. For players that represent a club for decades, it would be a different matter. Cheers --AL (talk) 18:34, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Hey Struway2, uhm I don't have a link for any ruling of it, as I don't even know where one would find that but other users with more knowledge have told me in the past that was the decision. Also recently I have seen on some talk pages of footballers' that runners-up medals aren't supposed to be included in honours sections. I'll try to find which player pages I found them on and get back to you as soon as I can on that. Sorry for deleting it initially with no comments mate. Cheers. Rupert1904 (talk) 21:19, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Yeah that's about as clear an argument you'll find I think. I tend to see people with little to no honours have Runners-up medals included while people like Frank Lampard or Ryan Giggs would never have runners-up finished included in their honours sections. That is a fair and reasonable point. I agree with including the League Cup finalist medal in his honours sections on the basis of that. Right now that's about all he has to hang his hat on so we can let him have that :D haha. Cheers Struway2 Rupert1904 (talk) 23:47, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
Incoming TPS... per your words that read "...and others who think that cup runners-ups count but league runners-ups don't (I don't follow the logic of that one)", my two cents: that approach, with which i agree 100%, is because medals are handed out to the cup(s) finalists, and no medals are given to league runner-ups (i thought it was like that in all the countries, but turns out in Football League One and Football League Two they do give medals to the second-placed team, but that's the ONLY country that i know of where it happens).

Darlington 1883

Hi there and thanks for the message. I realise that many if not most fans think of Darlington 1883 as the same club but the FA regards it as a new club, so therefore Wikipedia is following that line and has separate articles for Darlington FC and Darlington 1883. That being the case, it just seemed to me that the article was giving far too much detail of history of Darlington FC.

For example "Darlington Football Club was founded in 1883, and became a professional football club in 1908, joining the North Eastern League. The club became a member of The Football League in 1920, in which it competed until 1989, and again from 1990–2010. In the 1989–90 season and from 2010–12, Darlington played in the Football Conference." That is far too much background - why is it relevant to the Darlington 1883 article that Darlington FC became a professional club in 1908?. Sufficient to say "Darlington Football Club, which was founded in 1883, was a league club for most of its existence though its last two seasons were spent in the Football Conference."

As for the Darlington 1883 template, it seems wrong to have the template for the previous club so I created its own one - yes quite empty just now but the club is only a season old. I would expect details to added through time. Regards Fishiehelper2 (talk) 00:32, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

NK Maribor players [again]

Hello again and sorry to bother you:). I (+ another user) have created half a dozen new articles for players included in the List of NK Maribor players + I will also create about the same number of new ones during this weekend (Poznič, Fricelj, Šarkezi etc.). Would that make tha list OK or is there still anything else that needs to be resolved? Lep pozdrav, Ratipok (talk) 11:40, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

  • Ok, done that. There are 19 red links. I believe I can get this number down to about 10 red links, which would be around 8% of the total players on the list. Ratipok (talk) 11:33, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
It seems I have simply missed some of the players. Had plenty of work during the weekend and couldnt do any edits. Will remove the nolink for them as well. Dont know what is the problem with the table at NK Maribor seasons. When it was FLC everything was working fine and now it doesnt sort for probably a year. I have asked for help on one of the wiki help pages, to those who have created the seasons template and helped me during the FLC (I forgot which page was it though as it was couple of months ago), but nobody knew what the problem was (the table is the same as it was when the article received a FL notification, only one or two seasons were added below. Ratipok (talk) 15:32, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Yes, it was I who made the seasons template in the NK Olimpija Ljubljana (2005) article and I simply used the same format as in NK Maribor seasons (just copy pasted the format and changed the stats:). Found a FL with a working similar seasons list, (List of Watford F.C. seasons), and will fix both (e.g. Olimpija 2005 and NK Maribor seasons). And thanks:) Hope they win it and become the first team with the domestic treble (league, cup, supercup). Ratipok (talk) 16:12, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello. I have made a new footnote with the explanation in which competitions did Maribor play. Also added the second NT in the paragraphs for Milko Djurovski and Rocky Siberie. I have also fixed the NT references for about half a dozen players and used the RSSSF (every international player, not counting those who has represented Slovenia, now has references either by FIFA or RSSSF). However, I still cant find anywhere the "more reliable" NT refs for Blagoja Milevski and Nilton Fernandes. Apart from that, I believe I have done everything. Lep pozdrav, Ratipok (talk) 15:37, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Ok, thanks. I have added the reference for Milevski. I have also removed Nilton from the list (he has under 100 apps), until his Cape Verde caps can be confirmed with other (more reliable) sources. If I would have to guess, than Nilton would have likely been capped by Cape Verde NT when he was a member of Boavista (1997–2000), which was one of the top clubs in Portugal at the time, or during the early 2000s (2000–2002) when he was playing in other top tier Portuguese clubs (Aves and Gil Vicente). Ratipok (talk) 17:22, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
PS: about the "everything done" part. I still plan to create couple of players articles;) Ratipok (talk) 17:29, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
Hey. I have only now seen your last msg to may talk page "Back again, sorry. In note A, is that a full list of competitions included in the player stats? It should be, but using the form "(e.g. Yugoslav First League,..." rather implies those are illustrative examples rather than the full set. I can copyedit the note, but need to be sure we're on the same wavelength first. cheers, Struway2". Yes those are all the competitions the club has played in. I will remove the e.g.. Great, have added that in. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 22:05, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

I explain quickly why i overlinked (intentionally) City in intro (does not matter if it was in four or 200 lines, overlinking is always WRONG is it not?): it's for when he retires or changes clubs, then we'll remove the main lead "...is a Spanish footballer who plays for MAN.CITY..." and replace it with "...is a Spanish footballer who plays for (example) JUVENTUS..." or "...is a Spanish retired footballer", and Manchester City (in this chap's case) will only be linked ONCE.

That was my objective, to make things easier. Don't worry, i have not linked it again, i respect your approach man. Cheers --AL (talk) 17:30, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Since it is now the off-season, I have made a start on a complete list of our players having seen Oldelpaso doing so. I have no idea when the standard information will be finished but it's a start; think I'll begin B later. Regarding international selection, I assume including international caps for loan players is fine? I see you have done so with Nicklas Bendtner but I thought I'd just check. One that came up in A is Russell Anderson, who made an appearance for Scotland while on loan with us. Walls of Jericho (talk) 10:01, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Ah, but the character of an owner doesn't negate 120+ years of history as a professional club. I'm hoping you take us lightly, like we always seemed to when in the Championship against lower league opposition, and re-enact the spirit of 1973–74. We don't have a player anywhere near the class of Paul Mariner and Ernie Machin now though. I don't think we've ever loaned out a full international so I'm safe there, and the chances of that happening in the next decade are slim to none. Finding a reliable source for caps with some players won't be fun. I'm using ENFA to source postions for post World War II players; it's a great resource and that part is free, luckily. Marc Muniesa - Bits and pieces

Hi there STRUWAY, how's it going?

i did as you asked of me, let's see how the other chap responds, both in words and actions. Regarding MY actions, here's my "defense": i trimmed the intro down because i thought it was ENORMOUS, like a second storyline (1 - stuff about his injury problems which are not a big part of his career, only one "accident", not a guy done in by injuries like for example Michael Owen in the end of his career; 2 - all of his youth teams when some are irrelevant for the intro - for example he has two caps for the under-16). I was once told that intro was supposed to contain 1 - teams player represented; 2 - honours; 3 - international career. I tried to contain that sans the club honours, yes Mr.Muniesa won many many with Barcelona, but his contribution was ZERO.

However, if the intro created by ADD92 is added again, i won't revert anything, we all have to respect our different approaches. How the Brazilian user will react that i don't know. Cheers mate, sorry for any inconvenience (ah, and will send this very message to ADD) --AL (talk) 18:39, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
