2000–01 Birmingham City F.C. season

No problem, and thanks for the Sporting Life link, I will try and use this site more in the future. I apologize about the edits in the revision history, maybe it was a bit too much from me (a few would have been enough), I hope you don't mind. One more thing, I created the the 1991–92 season yesterday, perhaps you could help me out? I need to know who the league topscorer was, and also other details, such as transfers, players, scorers, attendance, referees, etc. It would be great if you could do that. Thanks. Arbero (talk) 16:56, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I will try to remember that in the future, thanks for the tip. I added some references, hopefully they're alright. I appreciate that you added the list of players, it's a good start. Arbero (talk) 10:48, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi, here is a link to the FIFA Statutes (2002): StatutenE.pdf. It's on page 37 near the bottom.

I'm unable to get the a copy of the 2000 copy because of how fifa.com was then, the archive.org is redirected by a .dll file.

That wording has since been updated at the 2003 FIFA Congress. TheBigJagielka (talk) 15:05, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the forceful edge to the edit summary. Sometimes I feel that we would be better off with separate English and American Wikipedias. People of my generation sometimes tire of the way that television and so forth mean that Americanisms take over here. Sometimes it shows when I'm tired or fed up. What is ironic is that my username here is a mixture of my surname and the fact I'm a Brit, which was coined when I used to take part in a Buffy the Vampire Slayer forum. Go figure, as I probably shouldn't say. Britmax (talk) 20:21, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Re:QPR seasons

Thanks for that, I hadn't seen the website about the London League before. I know the BL has a copy of the Amateur Cup results with the qualifying rounds, its just they've had some problems with asbestos if one of their off site storage areas and unfortunatly that's the area with this one particular book - so at the moment I can't order it for viewing. I'm sure within a few months it should be avaliable.

Also found out that Hammersmith and Chelsea libraries have the complete run of the West London Observer, so I'm going to see if I can organise a viewing there. Considering that there seems to be virtually no information on the West London League or the West London Observer Cup out there, I'm keen to gather as much information as possible to make it avaliable on Wiki for all the non-league enthusiasts. Im happy to keep it where it is if I could have found a few more good sources outwith the crime part I would of been happy to move but for the moment it's limited to the sun and daily mail article on his under 21 and rangers career. Bryan Orrit's South African info is taken from various issues of "South African Soccer Monthly." When that magazine was available on the net, I wrote down team line-ups like crazy and noted down facts and details from the articles. This means that I have nearly complete appearance- and goal stats for NFL seasons 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1968, plus a fairly good picture of 1970 and 1971 as well.

Then, for some reason, the site that provided me with all that tasty information, disappeared. What a bummer!!

Re: Norwegian anon

Hi there. This guy have annoyed me a bit aswell, mainly on the Norwegian footballers Daniel Braaten, Etzaz Hussain, Adnan Haidar and some others, where he uses loads of edits to either alter the infobox or the career statistics section, or adding unsourced statistics section or just updating matches played in infobox (without updating the datestamp). But according to his edits, it looks like he watch Premier League more then he watch Tippeligaen, and you might be more annoyed at him "over there". Unlike the last one we were annoyed at, this one doesn't have a lot of positive contributions (if any), but I'll give it a try to talk to him, and if that doesn't work we should simply "get rid of him". Hi, thanks for your message. I'm aware of the convention you refer to of notability being conferred through playing for a team from a FPL in a cup match, although I was under the impression that the opposition team must also be from a FPL. Muntz Street – FAC?

Well, shorter articles that are less well written and much less interesting, have made it through FAC. I have just run through it again, made some small prose and punctuation fixes, and come up with three small points for attention:-

  • Is it possible to give a year for the building of the wooden stand on the Coventry Road side?
  • You have the words "along the Coventry Road to Small Heath Park" in quotes, without indicating where you are quoting them from. I assume this is covered by the citation at the paragraph's end, but this is not obvious, and the question is likely to be asked. Personally I would simply drop the quote marks, as there is nothing especially vivid in the wording that makes it worth highlighting.
  • The phrasing "no fewer than 3,000 spectators" has a hidden "wow" element. I'd change it to "at least 3,000 spectators".

If you deal with these, then read the FA criteria and, if you feel confident you can defend the article against them, then why not nominate? Pay particular attention to the quality of your sources and to images, as these are areas of much attention at FAC, as you may have found at your previous visit. Let me know if you decide to take this one there. Brianboulton (talk)

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

another one of my stupid turns, indeed, am not going to defend myself, but hear me out: i have a gut feeling this guy who edited in this article is User:Zombie433, call me delusional if you will, he can write all he want in his userpage, i have seen to many of his stuff to be wary. I see you have already recomposed the stuff overall and i have also restored some more, but my gut feeling stays (can't prove it without any help though, and i don't want to ask for admin help then find out i was wrongfully accusing someone, but the editing MO of both users is STRIKINGLY similar).

My summary (what i have not explained above goes here)? Don't worry, you won't have to deal with me and my outbursts for a long time, the 2011/12 season is indeed my last (like Ryan Giggs calling it quits), i find out with each passing day editing is not a joy, more an obligation.

Attentively, happy week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:25, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the tip man, but i don't mark EVERYTHING as a minor edit (judging from my last two pages or so, one would think i do, but it was only stats updated in box, that's MINOR isn't it?), but i will definitely read the article to see in which situations it is applied. Thanks again! --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:41, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Interesting, very interesting

I thought that I would never experience anything like the play-off final again. Not only has it been equalled, it has been surpassed. Thanks to the constant media hyping of mundane matches, all the adjectives I can think of lack the impact to adequately describe it. I am still unable to concentrate on anything else properly without my mind drifting to Sunday, liable to break into an absurd grin or laughter at any moment. Like just now, looking at the reactions on WP:ITNC. And that from detached neutrals. No wonder it is so hard to describe what being there was like. Yesterday, at Albert Square before the parade, I am not ashamed to say I came close to tears as they replayed those last few minutes on the big screens. Typical City runs deep, deeper than the pockets of Sheikh Mansour. But it has been tempered. Typical City would have set a record for highest points by a runner-up.

Bringing things on-topic for a moment, I got lots of good photos yesterday that after I finish sorting through and editing will be good for a lot of player articles. No doubt my activity will increase to update a lot of articles for the season end of all season ends.

Book-wise, procrastination has been winning out, not least due to preoccupation with present-day on-pitch matters. So Manchester City: The Cup Finals remains mostly unwritten. It doesn't help that Manchester Central Library is closed for refurbishment, and the opening hours are shorter in the smaller temporary library. My priority is to get a couple of sample chapters as polished as I can, that I can show to people in the hope of drumming up interest. Really ought to get my act together during the close season. After all, maybe the title win increases the chance that a publisher would be interested in a niche title like mine. I can't help but suspect that a bunch of poorly-researched cash-in attempts written by people with newspaper connections may be more likely. Oldelpaso (talk) 17:06, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the tip mate! But what do i do in cases where i need to revert six or seven edits from same editor and it's not vandalism (blatant POV/WEASEL, etc), is rollback not warranted there either? --Vasco Amaral (talk) 12:10, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

i commend you on your work improving the article and undoing the utter mess that was that "anon novel". Two things i just want to discuss with you man: 1 - the wikilink separation, i had already brought it to your attention in Miguel Marcos Madera, and i think you agreed. "Copa del Rey" is one thing (competition), "2006-07 Copa del Rey" is another (season of competition), please allow me to elaborate; 2 - the names in full, if i screwed up on that please revert me and sorry (altough you did not seem to be bothered when i did it in Míchel's article).

Another thing that if i failed in, i immediately apologize, the refs display: is there any other for fields or is it random? I always thought it was CITE, URL, TITLE, PUBLISHER (or NEWSPAPER), LANGUAGE (if needed), DATE and ACCESSDATE.

Again, sorry for any incovenience if i "worsened" your work, you really improved it. I only feel sad the feeling is not mutual (you said in one of your summaries "mind you, previous version could do with a decent copyedit as well", it was i who wrote most of the previous storyline). Kind regards (and, after seeing the anon editor's summary, 99,999999% sure it's the same chap as in Vieirinha), keep it up --Vasco Amaral (talk) 15:54, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

This user has been blocked twice (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:122.107.175.113), returns and continues doing it? Although it's fair to say, as the talkpage "opener" well shows, this address might be used by several people.

If it's the same chap though, kudos to him! Cheers - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:19, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Also, found out NOW, the person which has "contributed" in Borja Valero has done the same at Vieirinha. His charmers, which we know by now (i.e. he calls this player a STRIKER! That coupled with the much more serious additions of sources which back nothing), now took ip up a notch and removed the PORTUGAL YOUTH INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALLERS, his summary read "Please don't remove! To make a bigger article!" Ah, with another address, Timmy also "went to work" in Finidi George.

If i'm not mistaken, i will be receiving a "powerful" message still this week... --Vasco Amaral (talk) 02:04, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Please (please), i'm having my hands full in Vieirinha (has returned again with another IP), can't you lend a hand man (or ask someone to)? This guy is so User:Timmy96...Thanks and, as you can see, my message to the last IP available was as polite and to-the-point as could be, but if this goes on, i just don't know (and also i'll reach 3RR) --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:02, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
  • Sure, i'll look at it (Vieirinha is also on my watch). Problem is, will Timmy? Cheers back --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:43, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
  • He continues, and here i may have incurred in an error, not quite sure: in Reuben Reid, he added more overdetail, peacock/weasel, but also some (it seems, i only had a glance) valuable refs. I reverted him, if you feel i should not have done it (i know i did not explain it in the article's history, but i explain it now, also admitting my possible error), please revert me, cheers - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 18:31, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

STRUWAY, VASCO here,

since you seem pretty much the only "member" active in the forum right now, could you please have a look at this (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#2012_Ta.C3.A7a_da_Liga_Final)? I promised User:Alexgreene87 someone would assist him in that in a matter of minutes (he asked me, i don't know how to help), now i'm feeling rather silly it did not turn out that way :( If you can't also, please ask one of our kit experts which i know abound.

If/when you have everything checked, if you like to say something, please message him, not me. Cheers and thanks a million! --Vasco Amaral (talk) 18:30, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Yeah mate, guilty as charged as well! Hence, we must contact someone who IS an expert (i know noone). Later --Vasco Amaral (talk) 18:48, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Template:Fb rbr position fl

I made this change, as you suggested on my talk page. however, when I checked 2009–10 Premier League#League table, it shows 18 and below are marked for relegation and no clubs marked for promotion, so should it be p=0 and r=18? feel free to correct it as you see fit. It appears the original problem that brought me to that page was that the Template:Fb rbr position was being called with a position of 21 for round 13, which makes no sense if there are only 20 clubs? I will change it back to Template:Fb rbr position and try to figure out the position for round 13. Frietjes (talk) 16:28, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

I figured it out, someone entered 21 instead of 12 for round 13 see [2]. cheers. Frietjes (talk) 16:32, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

would you like to see what this chap thinks of your reversion/warning, words and all? Please see here (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rapha%C3%ABl_Varane&diff=496799798&oldid=496646077), charming. He has already been re-reverted, but not (duly) blocked.

Also, nice work on improving Pablo Ibáñez's article, but was my ESPN Soccernet ref regarding his La Liga debut a minus instead of a plus? It sure looks like it, you removed it (being in English) and inserted a SPANISH one! Oh well, can't win them all...

Keep it up - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 00:45, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

  • Blocked (not you nor me mate), for one week! He asked for it :) Regarding Borja Valero, what about my summary, even if it was in the wrong place? I did not insult (why would i do that to you, who have always been kind to me and helpful) nor was i hysterical (i don't know if i have already told this to you, but when i use caps sometimes, it's for stressing/emphasizing purposes, not shouting ones), so why the reprimand? "...please do it calmly..."? I am indeed baffled.

Also, not the first time i have "run" directly to you when in doubt, i do not "hide" behind summaries ALWAYS. And believe me, honestest of truths, i thought changes could be discussed/suggested/brought forth in edit summaries, even though the articles' talkpages would always be of the utmost importance - ah, but if you check Mr. Valero's one, i have already dropped a few lines there last year.

I am not going to apologize (again) because i have not done anything bad, but i promise to be more "on the lookout" when article talkpages are concerned. Since we're here, the question: do you or WP:FOOTY in general think my approach is that negative (if one team finishes in X or Y position in the domestic league in Z season, there is no need to mention the season of the European competition)? If you (both) do, then i apologize for my wrongdoings (going against consensus), but in my book the logic of my approach is overwhelming, that is why i chose it.

Cheers - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 16:48, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi Struway,

He is most commonly called Johnny McMillan, which is simpler than both titles. Why not move the article there?

This image is under review in WP:NFCR#File:Alex Leake.jpg. Somehow, it has no rationale, required by WP:non-free use rationale guideline, and use of this image in the football team article may not be appropiate. You can go to WP:NFCR about this. --George Ho (talk) 11:42, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

Birmingham City: Staff

We meet again good sir,

I was just wondering since you are the one who mainly watches the Birmingham City page if I (or maybe you even) can add other staff such as Steve Spooner and Nick Davies since they are on the BCFC page under staff. I want someone to add these because many other clubs including the N-Power Championship have a full list of staff at the club and didn't want our Blues page to be any different from other clubs (I even seen a few kit managers, but don't think we have to go that far).

Thanks for your time, keep up your amazing work on Wiki -Moonschool — Preceding unsigned comment added by Moonschool (talkcontribs) 16:40, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:33, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi – I hope you're having a great break. The article reports his death as 12 July 2012, although none of the sources actually say that. The Broughton website says "On the morning of 12th July 2012 the family notified the Club" which would imply that he had died at least the day before. Maybe you can find something in the Birmingham papers. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 04:58, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Birmingham City

Hello. Sorry to bother you on this wiki pages (didnt find your email anywhere), but I have one question. Since you are editing Birmingham City articles on a regular basis I assume that you are a fan of them? It seems that the club is currently in my home town (Maribor) in one of the hotels as their summer base camp and I was wondering if you could help me and tell me if they are going to play any friendly matches here (I tried to check their website but its seems you need to be registrated to view content)? Cheers, Ratipok (talk) 16:38, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

  • Yes, it seems BCFC youth selection are in Maribor for the second year in a row and not their main squad. Thanks for the help nevertheless:). There is also a second picture that I have posted on Wiki (concerning BCFC) on 2011–12_NK_Maribor_season#UEFA_Europa_League and I have added Category:Birmingham City F.C. to the file (though, for some reason I didnt uploaded it to WikiCommons, but I am sure someone will do that in the near future). Btw: I have about 25pics from that EL match between Maribor and Birmingham. If you want them, I could send it to you via email. Let me know;). Lep pozdrav, Ratipok (talk) 22:31, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Struway2. Just letting you know that I declined the G4 tag you placed on this article - since the deletion discussion, it appears that he's shown his face in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I league, which puts him inside the bounds of notability under WP:NFOOTY. This information wasn't in the previous version of the article that was deleted at AfD. Yunshui  12:27, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Baraka mutabaruka

I'm sorry — I failed to notice that the name at the start of the text was different from that of the article. If I had, I would have realised that it was a hoax. This is definitely speedy deleteable: our license permits copying of text only if the author be attributed. Since the page was created without attribution, it's a copyvio, and I've deleted it that way. Moreover, it could have been speedied as a hoax if I'd understood what you meant, and because it duplicates information from another (established) article, it qualifies for criterion A10. If you want to reduce the chance that a confused admin might decline a hoax tag, you might use something different from {{db-hoax}}. If you use {{db-g3|it is a blatant hoax, because it is simply the contents of [[Trésor Kandol]] with the name changed}}, it would be very hard for an admin not to realise what's going on. Hi there STRU, AL here,

please bear with me on this one: i know i did something without almost any consensus (i only discussed it with User:Kingjeff, and he agreed) and i apologize – but i also embraced WP:BOLD – but the section is 200% irrelevant. Who is his wife, who are his children? Not of relevance, and i would not mind/care about it being there if it was not for the conversation me and Jeff had, in which he told me the section was poorly placed at the bottom because it was "free writing" followed by "tables and bullet points" followed by "free writing" again.

Hence, i suggested it was removed, he agreed. You reinstated, it stays, i don't have a care in the world with it. Cheers. --AL (talk) 14:47, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

  • About the section's specifics also: if he had two or three children and they had died at a very young age due to disease/accident (same can be said about the spouse) it would surely deserve a mention, but if his son/daughter is just another guy/gal, what's the point... like i said don't fret i won't remove it again. --AL (talk) 14:53, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
  • I just thought it was not relevant to speak about the family if the family was not relevant itself (Frank Lampard, or this example i just "fished", Henk Timmer (footballer), his wife is also a professional sportsperson). My bad? Sorry --AL (talk) 15:01, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
And what about Jeff's technicalities ("free writing", "bullet points")? Is he in the right there? --AL (talk) 15:02, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Two words: Great improvement, kudos to you my friend (actually that's seven :() --AL (talk) 16:44, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

No problem. I just wish people who insist on having them in articles were equally keen on maintaining them, particularly the bit whereby adding in an appearance also requires adding it to row and column totals as well. Hey ho... Struway2 (talk) 12:05, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi there STRU, "you-know-who" here,

Could you please help or at least mediate in this player's article, a bonafide mess as we stand (vandalism-wise that is)? Chelsea must be added non-stop for days in a row, a bit sick and tired.

In a (very) bizarre twist, since he does not seem to be a vandal/disruptive user, User:Dextertron also continues to add strange things when reverting people: 1 - in intro, he links the club as the city, Marseille, not only that he also writes "Marsielle"; 2 - in persondata, he writes the player will DIE in Chelsea's ground three days from now (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=C%C3%A9sar_Azpilicueta&diff=508622485&oldid=508618479 - i also noticed that in one of his reversions he reverted me by removing OLYMPIQUE DE MARSEILLE in intro and writing "his" MARSIELLE; in the example i show you, he also removes the newly-added HU.WIKI, and reverted what i did after your suggestion of switching HONOURS and STATS because of the bullet points, all that without ONE WORD, i am not going to engage in interaction with this person (if he is a vandal for the obvious reasons, if he's not because i don't want to sound harsh or "heated" thus being unfair); ah, and did i mention he writes the player scored 19 GOALS for CA Osasuna B when the BDFUTBOL.com link suggests something in the region of...ONE?

I am not going to take this to WP:FOOTY because i am bit sick of being scolded or having my motives questioned when i'm fighting vandalism (now i say VANDALISM with all the letters because not only Dexter has edited in this guy's page), that or being utterly ignored. Plus, User:GiantSnowman is on a big break, so i "ran" to you for help. You may say "Man, take it to the proper pages, like AIV, etc". I have talked to admins (more in the past, now it seems to be more difficult, beats me why) about blocking IPs/accounts and/or protecting pages, and it was done on the spot without going through the technicalities, why the change?

Cheers as always (would not be surprised if Azpilicueta's page has been altered before i press "enter"!), and thanks --AL (talk) 16:14, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Kinda confusing to a non-English person mate, why is CENTRAL DEFENDER very often used in your language and the "wing counterparts" form is not? --AL (talk) 17:42, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

I'm really sorry for that revert. I use S Tiki for some of the vandalism reverts and also that I read the change made by annon. 2012-13 Arsenal FC page

Hello mate. Sorry for over reverts before. Wont do that. Can you just undo the latest edit that IP did please because again (hopefully you will listen) all these transfers are undisclosed and to have random fees there would make the article (or that section) a lie. For example, currently that IP user says that Olivier Giroud was sold for 12 million pounds yet Sky Sports says 13.5 million. Which one is right? We dont know because Arsenal said it was undisclosed meaning they did not release the price. Therefore it should be noted as undisclosed. Sorry if this seems like a rant but IPs are good at pissing someone off, specially when they dont listen and go to the talk page. Cheers. --Arsenalkid700 (talk) 14:21, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Okay I read the second post you gave me. So what do I do now because honestly I consider what the anon did as clear vandalism mainly because of the fake transfer fees but I am guessing that wont be a proper answer and I dont want to revert now and risk a block and the anon already edited the article again. So do I just wait 24 hours after the anon edit to revert again?--Arsenalkid700 (talk) 14:29, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
Well actually about the better existing articles, a user brought up the 2002-03 Arsenal F.C. season article which is rated as a great article. When I looked at it I was amazed. As for the talk page, I will go to there then. Thank you. --Arsenalkid700 (talk) 14:37, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
Okay. Made the new topic. Your welcome to join. Cheers. --Arsenalkid700 (talk) 14:51, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
I know. Thats why I did not make the request earlier. I have been in these situations before where I try to protect a page yet my editing history on that page did not help and I was declined. Never got declined for edit warring but I am guessing that wont help my cause obviously. Cheers. --Arsenalkid700 (talk) 09:08, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi there once again,

this one is back again (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/2.27.106.231), giving me the time of day at least in Vieirinha, which is on my watchlist, but tiring nonetheless. As TIMMY96, when he was "caught" in Raphaël Varane he said "I want to be blocked", i think we should accommodate...

As seen in this edit (here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Vieirinha&diff=508780864&oldid=508780660), his English "skills" continue THE SAME after being told he should improve on them and then only (maybe) return. Cheers - --AL (talk) 14:24, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

This as well (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/2.27.107.96), sigh... --AL (talk) 14:47, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
  • I thought the macho attitude ("I want to be blocked") and the total refusal to communicate would be enough reason to expel. --AL (talk) 15:17, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
Plus, no COPYVIO (his own words) resulted in this in Borja Valero (here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Borja_Valero&diff=508791427&oldid=508786386)! --AL (talk) 15:47, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Are you implying that the level of English shown by Timmy in his edit is similar to my version after i corrected it? Fair enough. I apologize for the wrong use of Rollback though. --AL (talk) 16:47, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

P.S. Kindly rephrase that last line in Valero please. --AL (talk) 16:48, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Yes i understood perfectly what you meant with "close paraphrase", but my observation is related to what i told you yesterday or before that, no matter what i always end up getting scolded more or less, it really seemed the case again. Speaking of which: as i said i apologize for the rollback, but do not apologize for the non-neutral summary (which was not an insult in any way - not implying you said it was, just being 100% clear), this guy is really getting on my nerves after that "I want to get blocked" stunt, not wanting to acknowledge his level of English and not replying to people.

My last request was (although i'll try it one more time): could you rephrase the lines that come with the last ref so that we avoid COPYVIO completely? Cheers again and sorry for any inconvenience. --AL (talk) 18:49, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

  • I've had another go, hopefully it's more accurate now. --AL (talk) 18:57, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Just like i noticed User:Pararubbas (man of the 70 socks)' English "skills" and advised him (not the banned form, the reformed User:Alexgreene87, took him a few weeks of pressure from me and User:Satori Son to acknowledge he was Pararubbas, he then apologized for his actions and the ban was lifted) to switch to PT.WIKI, he said "no thank you" and his level has not improved one bit (i.e. still writes THEIR as THERE after five years). Happy weekend to you mate, keep it up! --AL (talk) 15:48, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Patrick McLaughlin (footballer)

I hadn't realised, thanks for letting me know. I'm in the process of writing articles for the newly notable York players so I'll get to work on Paddy's page sometime soon; at least it'll be a lot less taxing than Jon Challinor's is bound to be... • You're welcome. What he has written in Michu's article is the definitive proof he should not edit in WP unless major improvements occur. Take care --AL (talk) 19:56, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Azpilicueta - Intro

I see you have reverted me in this player's intro. Really this has nothing to do with English language being more or less mastered, so it's very confusing to yours truly: why should we write "club" in intro? Isn't it obvious? Chelsea (in this case) is not a DOG, or a CAKE, it's a CLUB/TEAM.

Also, before you talk to me about rollback again, yes i have a bit of a "shoot first ask later" mentality, and when i check my watchlist and see articles worked on, ESPECIALLY the ones that have been vandalized often, i click rollback without thinking. That was Azpilicueta's case, gotta improve on that M.O. it seems :(

Ah, and still about writing (or not) "club" in intros: User:GiantSnowman, the travelling one, told me it's a matter of preference, so it's not consensus-driven or anything. Cheers --AL (talk) 17:35, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Still about this player, User:Dextertron has returned. He has desisted from his PERSONDATA antics, but continues to be non-interactive, as seen in this edit (here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=C%C3%A9sar_Azpilicueta&diff=508984193&oldid=508977154), removed both his Spanish ext.links without one word, especially BDFUTBOL.com, reinstated the pound value in intro after you removed it. I also have some doubts about his English level, with stuff like "...appearing in all but missing only two games" being written in his CA Osasuna career after i had already taken care of that. There, he also removed the true reference of him being registered with CA Osasuna B, and engaged in POV with stuff like "making with a string of impressive displays."

Cheers again - --AL (talk) 21:03, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

  • WOW! That ESPN link contained all his appearances from the moment he became a senior in 2006/07 (if you choose the field APPEARANCES instead of CAREER, on the right corner you have several seasons to choose from, oddly not all as i thought, but it's something).

When i tried something similar at Andy van der Meyde i was immediately reverted and reprimanded, really did not expect this but, out of tremendous respect for you and your work, i'll leave it as it is. Cheers! --AL (talk) 14:23, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

I know i sounded a little (very!) contradictory in that last input (i say it has ALL the seasons, then it only has SOME seasons), but i was writing to you "on the move" (checking the ESPN link at the same time, i have seen several recent players with ALL the seasons available, so i assumed the same here). Now, i can complete my reasoning with the following: do you not think it's worth to keep that source because: 1 - new seasons might be created by ESPN, thus rendering the source complete and credible; 2 - it's better than NONE at the present time?

Cheerio again --AL (talk) 14:57, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Hence the second part of my message mate, the ESPN stuff at least verifies SOME of the stats, if not ALL (better than having none thus - you are correct though, it's still very incomplete, unlike some other players). And how bout that Fernando Llorente article? Protection lifted, vandalism resumed...

Cheers --AL (talk) 16:18, 26 August 2012 (UTC)--AL (talk) 16:18, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Azpilicueta / Others

Now we have a ref for EVERY season? Fair enough, i don't like that display but i'm CLEARLY in a minority here.

In an unrelated note, what the hey? Player as obscure as can be even in my country, Carlos André Filipe Martins, has had the links/cats removed twice by two different "persons" (that or the same "user" was on vacation or moved countries), really bums me out. Ah, and before you ask, yes the anon summaries written after the vandalism was fixed are mine, my tolerance for these punks is below zero.

Cheers, happiest of weeks - --AL (talk) 22:46, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Undue rollback(s)

I guess my explanation of the other day did not land still (sick of vandalism, thus still "shoot first ask later" with most watchlist items...i am sorry for the action, have already reverted myself, had no business doing that.

I just hope the picture is not copyrighted, it would be "interesting" to find that out. Happy week, cheers - --AL (talk) 15:49, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

  • After (and BEFORE :)) what i showed you in Carlos André Filipe Martins, i'm pretty much convinced that more than 50% of edits on our chosen field, soccer, are vandalism (i.e. that player that has never been heard of in England and suddenly, he moves to that country and "fans" of the hated team start "going to work" in his page). Could be wrong though, but not by much unfortunately. --AL (talk) 16:14, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

2012-13 Arsenal FC page (Final)

Okay, first off I am sorry for that last action on the page, that was immature really and really unnecessary but now we have to really come to a consensus because I dont edit that page anymore. it is just crazy, things that are not needed. Unsourced kits (who knows if we will use yellow shots with the yellow or even if we will use a yellow kit), random tables, not good sources for transfer fees. Its an animal house to be honest. In my opinion we should just recreate the article on a user page and copy and paste but I guess that is not the popular idea so why not just do what we discussed and just protect the page. You told me not to, I did not but so far no one has asked for protection. I wont do anything now till agreements are made and until the page is protected because this is now crazy and I dont like the Arsenal FC page being like this. Cheers. --Arsenalkid700 (talk) 00:28, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Dead end

After this (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Atl.C3.A9tico_Madrid.27s_website), i've tried and follow your leads, to no avail. Since my options appear all in Portuguese, i could not find any similar match, but still tried them all or nearly.

Could you be of service if you can? One thing is for sure man, last time i use Atlético Madrid's official web as source, don't want to waste my time and others'. Cheers - --AL (talk) 01:04, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

  • After seeing your summary in Domingo Cisma González, i'm still feeling at a loss...what search engine? In Atlético's page? I feel rather silly, must been having a bout of "dumbness acutis".

Please elaborate to this silly man... --AL (talk) 16:17, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

A bit of a misunderstanding here, and i'm afraid again i caused it, not you :(

In this diff of mine (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=N%C3%A9lson_Oliveira&diff=509325632&oldid=508492712), i was not talking about the Sports Illustrated ref, as i said in summary CLUB CAREER not INT.CAREER. What i meant is when you (duly) undid me, you reverted everything, and the wikilink Last-minute goal was again written as Last-minute goals, thus not displaying properly (see here, the very first change reflected http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=N%C3%A9lson_Oliveira&diff=prev&oldid=508492712).

Speaking of "the devil", i have a very hard time still distinguishing between PUBLISHER and WORK, sorry for any inconvenience and have a great week. Oh, and is the guy that wrote to you just above me nice or what? - --AL (talk) 01:36, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

  • I hope the lack of response does not stem from any kind of resentment man. I think i was not aggressive or insulting, even in the summary. Cheers - --AL (talk) 19:55, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Of course i knew you did not do it on purpose, what gives man? No apologies needed whatsoever, where i really wanted/needed some enlightment was on the PUBLISHER/WORK/NEWSPAPER thing, as far as references are concerned. Please don't think bad about me man, would never want to plant these doubts in your brain ("Is this guy writing to me over and over again so that i say "i am sorry" to him"? Nothing further from the truth), you and User:GiantSnowman have to be my strongest allies here and the users i respect the most.

And what is wrong with these punks that don't leave us alone? In Miku, the same rubbish, someone inflated the stats in box thinking i (we) would not notice and, much more seriously, wrote the day of his death in the PERSONDATA field. Talkback

Huge reply, sorry for the delay too a long time to write it. I'll hold off on assessments until this matter is fixed. I await your reply. I've also included numerous examples and cross referencing for my decisions and have explained my assessment on both of those... But Ivor might make a case for mid, though the question of 'importance' seems to be low across the discipline of football. Even if WP:FOOTBALL rates him as such, I look at the HIGH and TOP ones more because those are the most important figures in that discipline and thus more likely to satisfy the 'important' and ' large impact (defining), across a couple of generations and impact outside their country of origin' criteria. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 19:37, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Another lengthy reply on my page btw. Hopefully it sheds more light on the matter. Though part of it is garbled through my stream of consciousness. To surmise for my 'low's on most it is like this. Notability sets the bar of professional play or GNG, millions worldwide count for this. (Millions would be 'low' by that count) If we were to count international play or Olympic appearances we would have hundreds of thousands, maybe a million or more still, I know Olympians number in the hundreds of thousands over the course of the games. So those would still be a huge number of mids. Now if we were to count medalists as high, Olympians alone would account for 27,000. By that theory, it would lead to a 'top' of multiple medals. Still thousands. That's just for Olympic sports. Now this makes sense for a wikiproject of such things, but out of a million articles or more, what is the TOP importance (limited to 200) who's that? The next 'high' importance is a collection like a rack of biographies on a public library. Mid, some biographies, mostly important, but of a general interest. Low, still some biographies, but of a specific interest, but notable individuals. Anyways... more on my talk page. If you care. I tend to ramble... ChrisGualtieri (talk) 22:01, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi there mate,

i'll only say this for the moment, don't reply until you get the full message, now only a "taste" with the most important, an apology: i hit rollback to your last edit because i kind of freaked out after seeing all those "citation needed" tags and a red link after all my efforts in improving the article.

After seeing the error of my ways, i reinstated several of your stuff, and kind of "compensated" by adding several new refs as well. Sorry for any incovenience, this afternoon i'll add the rest of the message, with the technicalities. Cheers - --AL (talk) 09:09, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

  • Part 2, the technical stuff: 1 - in intro, i did not reinstate after my undue reversion his first two clubs in Uruguay because he only played there one season before going to Spain where "all the action was to be"; related, his Villarreal spell for all we know can last only this season, also small so far no?

2 - again (again) the piping of clubs, and this time i must protest: all the clubs are to be piped to their commonnames? OK but, that being the case, what about Real Betis? Do you know what the "R" in Espanyol, Mallorca, etc stands for? Surprise, surprise, R-E-A-L! Please, don't throw the wiki-book at me because the wiki-book is wrong, Betis is known as such in most of the approaches, even in England we can find several cases (see here http://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/association=esp/news/newsid=834700.html#osasuna+sporting+wins+send+betis+down, here http://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/association=esp/news/newsid=1795913.html and here http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/88/spain/2012/06/24/3198290/betis-defender-miki-roque-passes-away), why are some "Real" clubs piped and some not?

3 - after i undid you, the transfermarkt.com link was reinstated. This prompts the question, after seeing you also "iced" it in Míchel Salgado: what do you have against that source? Is it that invalid? Cheers again, keep it up - --AL (talk) 15:08, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Reply to 1 - even though i did not intend it, i think you got the impression i was making fun of you about the REAL in other clubs' names ("I can even spell it, even though it's not my native language any more than it is yours. Though English is."), i was not, don't know to what that reaction was due. Still in that item, i asked you not to throw the book at me and provided examples with "Betis" written in them, not REAL BETIS, you did it just the same. You also seem to agree with me when you say "sometimes X club is known in Y fashion", SOMETIMES is not ALWAYS, only Real Madrid is consistent with the prefix presence;

2 - i have removed the said link, if User:Mega60 for example reinstates it it's none of my business. Thank you also --AL (talk) 16:28, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

  • And per your last summary in the piece: i said what i said when mentioning you because i did not know how to explain the removal of the link any better. I also said in my (last) summary i followed your suggestion nor your order, sometimes do not understand those (in general) reactions towards me...i admit that some of my summaries are downright against WP policies, but what did i say in this one? I did not shake any responsibility, you suggested i removed it, i did so, giving two (instead of ONE) directions for anyone to go to if they disagreed/wanted to know more with/about the link's removal. --AL (talk) 13:50, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks for being totally honest in your reply man, i sincerely appreciate it. You have all the right to have held a grudge because my action (rollback) was not appropriate.

All the best, end of (this) conversation. --AL (talk) 15:38, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Santi Cazorla - WP:FOOTY

Hi there mate,

as a veteran editor such as yourself, i (think i) know this or that type of user when i see them. In Cazorla's case, i'm pretty sure he was not going to engage in any type of conversation with me or anyone and just keep "correcting" the player position (now he may play as a #10 on occasion certes, but the person had no business removing the winger position), so why bother trying? As i said in my reply at the project page, i still have no excuse for rollback actions when not fighting vandalism, but i find it much easier than just "undo", the only thing i'm guilty of is being (very) lazy. Also, when "rollbacking", i save the site in general another one of my hysterical summaries.

Kind regards from Portugal - --AL (talk) 23:58, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

  • Speaking of rollback, i apologize for my actions in César Azpilicueta, but last two or three edits consisted in giving him one game for Chelsea when he has not yet played in the Premier League, thought they were at it again.

If my rollback rights are taken away i won't protest, since i am not using them wisely. Cheers --AL (talk) 14:10, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

  • if i do it again when we have only one or two edits, which makes it easy for me to see what needs to be undone and provide a summary (if a change is needed of course!), then it will be clear i can't control myself, the rights will have to be revoked. But i am 100% serious, next time it happens without a reason (today, tomorrow) actions need to be taken.

Regards - --AL (talk) 14:55, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

  • First obstacle was hurdled with success, in José Bosingwa, where the player is called a monkey (!) or similar prior to my reversion. Since we can't use the kind of language these punks deserve in summaries, i was extra careful as you can see. --AL (talk) 17:17, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Sorry, unfortunate observation/comparison the one seen above, it's OK to use rollback when reverting obvious vandalism as was the case. Man am i ever confused! --AL (talk) 14:35, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

How were my edits 'disruptive,' and how did they constitute 'vandalism?' They were factually accurate! 95.147.211.92 (talk) 17:41, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi there STRU, AL here,

regarding this player's article, first i don't understand the "removed without explanation" accusation when the "source" provided - and subsequently removed by me, WITH SUMMARY, and not an idiotic one as i tend to - was blank (it consisted of the words "Garde, Luis; in spanish newspaper ABC 25 October 2004", no URL no nothing). You did an incredible job afterwards, credit be given my sir.

You would want to know that after your work, a similar IP to that who added the storyline about Alfaro's 1984 debut in the first place has removed your new additions, deeming them as "media factoid". It would be interesting to state that BDFUTBOL.com (reliable as they get) does not mention him in the matchsheet against Barcelona (please see here http://www.bdfutbol.com/en/p/p.php?id=15410), but another thing's a given: you added TWO reliable sources that say he made his debut on that day, BDFUTBOL is only one.

I had to make some storyline adjustments, as Mr.Alfaro was not the youngest player ever to feature in a La Liga game as you wrote, Sansón (footballer) of Celta de Vigo was, beating him by an inch.

Regards, happy week - --AL (talk) 23:51, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

  • I start with the END: yes, totally my bad in mathematics, Alfaro is the youngest not Sansón. I will have the storyline unaltered for now because i have contacted User:Mega60, "top-of-the-list" when it comes to Spanish football database and one of the "forces" behind BDFUTBOL.com in the last one or two years (he told me so). Let's wait for a day or so, then i'll immediately message you.

About the rest: not sure i understood it well, but are you saying the other user was correct to remove your additions and call them "media factoid" because he had two sources that did not mention Alfaro? Well you had also two that did! Not sure why he got the upper hand, could you elaborate if i'm in the right?

Later, cheers --AL (talk) 15:07, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

  • So much for a "day or so", he answered immediately. Just dropping by to thank you both for your great teamwork - in Spanish in English we understood each other! - i have reinstated the due page "valuables". Keep it up - --AL (talk) 16:44, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Javier Patiño - Bits and pieces

Hi there STRUWAY, AL (or a different name if you prefer) here,

could you please enlighten me? After you made all those changes in the references' display, i have to ask: why do we have to have the authors and the agencies (i thought URL/TITLE/PUBLISHER (or NEWSPAPER)/LANGUAGE (if needed)/DATE/ACCESSDATE sufficed)? Moreover, why do he have the authors and the agencies in SOME refs not ALL? Kind of baffling...

Regarding the headers, i thought we should have the first paragraph as the last, titled INTERNATIONAL CAREER (sans the family part of course), but i'm not going to change it because i know i'll get reverted.

Last but not least: i swear that last time i checked on that reference you now reinstated, it was dead (as one of my anon summaries reads, i was about to reinstate part of what i had reverted, to no avail). In a related note which explains my reversions, User:Kolins continues to do a good job overall i believe, but does not talk to anyone (even in summaries) and continues to insert FACEBOOK/TWITTER profiles in players' pages, even though it's not encyclopedical.

Keep it up, happy week - --AL (talk) 13:20, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the reply. 1 - i don't know if you noticed it, but i meant "relocate the bit of him being a possible PHI.NAT.TEAM addition to a section called "International career", WITHOUT reference to his family (that, of course, belongs to EARLY LIFE or PERSONAL LIFE); 2 - i meant "baffling" especially because of the two refs from Marca: given it's the same source, i only found it strange one had the author and other did not.

Oh, and i just noticed i unduly removed an agency in the last ref of Patiño's piece, i apologize. About Kolins it's another matter but, after i explained this same situation to User:GiantSnowman, he said "keep warning", you chose another approach, that's OK. --AL (talk) 13:51, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

  • But surely, even without reading the same guideline you just sent me, you must agree with me that with all the links with stats and references in newspapers and official webs available nowadays, the Facebooks and the Twitters and the whatnots are 100% expendable? Be honest without hesitation in your reply mate. --AL (talk) 14:02, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Interesting scolding (but i stay true to my sentiment that you and Snowman are my two strongest allies here), with the "cleanup" reference. Regarding the newspaper, it's an abbreviation, it's called DIARIO DE CÓRDOBA OK? About the father of the player i agree, it was not sourced, but it was User:Kolins who wrote it first. --AL (talk) 14:15, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Well can't know everything can you? I am quite familiar with Spanish newspapers since i started using them as sources here, but i have most surely mistaken the one above with this one (please see here http://www.eldiadecordoba.es/), my bad thus. I have already reverted myself on the father stuff and the newspaper's name. Sorry. --AL (talk) 14:23, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
  • How about an official website? Many many sportspeople have it. I think that would just about cover it. If they did not have one, tough luck, as you very well said the social networking pages are pure crap 99,9999% of the times. Cheers - --AL (talk) 18:09, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

Elliott

Cheers for the message - I didn't even look at the source to be honest, there's definitely no such DGC in the Football League. Maybe the people on the Birmingham website still think they're in the Premier League ;). Same thing happened with Charlie Austin this season, according to Burnley the club applied to the Press Association to have the stats changed after the statistician at the match gave it as a Peterborough own goal. Hi there STRU, AL "here",

much as it cost me, have messaged this user regarding my WP:FOOTY report. Last time i do this (mentioning another user when i have no intention of warning them i did so), can't be saying all the time "oh i don't care for WP guidelines, i'm a free spirit", lesson learned.

Attentively - --AL (talk) 14:26, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Ah, which brings the following technical question: in cases where we DON'T KNOW the stats, which is better: leave the fields blank or insert the question marks? Thanks in advance --AL (talk) 18:20, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
  • Another example, in Fabrice Olinga. This kid is 16 YEARS OLD, and he continues to play with the juniors whilst appearing/training with the main squad now and then, at least until the end of this season 2012/13 it's logical to think he will remain in that predicament, hence the infobox youth field must read "2011-" and not "2011-2012" am i not correct? What's your opinion? He keeps reverting me, i do the same.

So, why do i write this message to you and not Mr.Fingers? Because, i repeat, i'm tired of being called names for a difference in opinion, "broke my promise" and engaged in contact once after my WP:FOOTY report, but won't do it again. Mark my words, without proof, i am 100% SURE he was the one that directed that shouting in Ángel Guirado's article, getting a bit annoying this attitude.

Cheers, happy week - --AL (talk) 00:17, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

  • Makes no sense man, and i've just checked Olinga's official profile at Málaga's web, he's still there with the juniors (and the A-team and the B-team as well). But if i must comply i must comply, will revert myself (partly) in the player's article. Cheers as well --AL (talk) 16:20, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
  • Just thought of this: what if Olinga wins a junior national championship in the next three years (he can still play with them until 2015), do you think the box will be coherent in that aspect? I don't mate, maybe we should alter that WP:FOOTY consensus, or at least propose it if you agree. --AL (talk) 16:23, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello,

You created the G.D. Chaves kit in which I used it for the 2010 Taça de Portugal Final page. Is it possible to make the F.C. Porto kit of 2008-09 season. It will help me create two new articles. I have left two links of the kit to help you create it.
