today

See my talk today, - it's rare that a person is pictured when a dream comes true, and that the picture is shown on the Main page on a meaningful day. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:54, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

Any interest in a future collab on this, ideally with User:SeoR also in tow? Have been hovering around it since the International Museums Day thing. Also would give me an excuse to finally splash out on the Dublin Pevsner. Ceoil (talk) 21:50, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

Oh definitely! I have Elizabeth Crooke's book on the early museum which mostly focuses on antiquities, and a few other bits and pieces including a few journal articles, I would be happy to get stuck in. It would be great to get all the NMI articles up to a better standard overall. Fair play for nominating Gallagh Man for DYK, literally just went to check it was in there - well worth the nomination. Must make an effort to build up a few reviews to bank for the future. (Sorry I didn't reply over the WikiProject Ireland, been a hectic week!) Smirkybec (talk) 22:09, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
Sounds like a plan. Have some amazon credit still from birthday presents, so will order the Pevsner. Also I find academia.edu very good for NMI related articles, though their own website is a bit of a dead loss...for eg they don't have dedicated pages for specific objects, and no accessible archive of research - presumably they are holding tonnes of the stuff. Ceoil (talk) 22:21, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
I'm in too! There is so much potential in all the NMI articles, but materials need digging. I have a couple of journal articles, and two of the guidebooks, and think I've 1-2 more bits in the attic. The Pevsner sounds like a great acquisition. It's a shame how little the NMI sites contain - but as I hear, there was never enough spare staff capacity for more than work done for own-interest by a few staff. And this is not unique to the NMI - beyond the catalogue and some special projects, only a tiny share of NLI material is online, the OPW and Heritage Council post nearly nothing, and sites like Dublin Castle contain *less* information than 20 years ago. Great work on Gallagh Man and beyond, Ceoil! SeoR (talk) 23:09, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
Delighted to hear SeoR, would be a pleasure to work with you. I'll scan and email the relevant bits of the Pevsner to you and Smirky when it arrives (2 weeks I'm told). Who knows we might even get to visit the place again before 2021 is done :) Ceoil (talk) 00:29, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
