I don't understand why you make it so hard for people to post genuine information on Wikipedia that'd be of benefit to other users. That has been well researched and academically peer reviewed. I'll be putting a separate complaint in, and will not be donating to Wikipedia ever as I've found this whole experience utterly appalling Sefton 2023 (talk) 12:46, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sefton 2023: - there is no issue with adding genuine information to Wikipedia per se, the issue is that you have copied the text word for word from another site where it is clearly marked as "copyright, all rights reserved". As mentioned above, Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously and cannot contain information copied verbatim from external sources per the site's copyright policy. If you use the external site as a source upon which to base an edit, that's OK, but you cannot copy the content of a copyrighted external site directly onto Wikipedia -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 12:55, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Chris, noted. I'd added this information on behalf of my father 'Paul Sefton' who is the author of the article.
Instead I've now referenced the article within the existing text that was already approved. As I think having this link on the page would be of benefit Sefton 2023 (talk) 12:59, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate that your father originally wrote the text, but unfortunately as the university published it as copyrighted to themselves, that means that they control all subsequent use of it and that precludes copying it verbatim onto Wikipedia. With a (slight) vested interest in the subject as a Gillingham supporter, I'll see what I can do about expanding the article..... :-) -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 13:04, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so so much Chris! We're just really proud of Ernie and all he achived and wanted to share more information about his football career for those who would find it of interest.
I've also uploaded a photo of Ernie as it'd be great if we can get this on. Let me know if you can't as I do have some of our own family collection photos and you could quote Pinkney Family collection as the source if that's easier.

Unfortunately photographs which have never existed outside of a private collection are unlikely to be copyright free, but I've replaced the image with one which can be categorically proven to be out of copyright because it is shown in the British Newspaper Archive (to which I have access) to have been published in the Athlectic News newspaper in 1910 -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 13:18, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Chris, you're an absolute super star. Im with my dad and we've just seen this photograph update and we are both utterly delighted, its made our day that the page now has a photo of Ernie on it =) Sefton 2023 (talk) 13:21, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Great this all worked out :) GraziePrego (talk) 13:37, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just to say, I have been spending a lot of time recently working on 1912–13 Gillingham F.C. season, which I just nominated for Featured Article status. I now plan to create the equivalent article for the following season and as that was Ernie's first season with the Gills, I plan to add his picture to that article too -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 07:46, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Chris,
I just wanted to say a big thank you for your time and efforts in improving Ernie's page on Wikipedia. My dad and I are delighted and have tweeted about it (@faye_eliz and @PaulioBear). That'd be amazing. I have a photograph that may help also I will link it now.
