Speedy deletion of Teresa sue bratton[edit]

A tag has been placed on Teresa sue bratton requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 17:07, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Bratton fails notability guidelines because she is only a candidate for a mid-level office and has not actually won election to any notable office as of yet, and does not meet notability guidelines for any other reasons. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 17:09, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you look more closely, you'll see that what those stories show is that some reporter at the News & Record uses her as a source of allergy-related quotes, or at least used to. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:59, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, she's just a favorite source for a particular reporter. (I've fallen into that habit myself in my journalistic career.) It really would not help much here. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 05:20, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain[edit]

I would love for someone to explain to me why they feel Teresa Sue Bratton is unnotable, yet Larry Kissell (also a candidate for US Congress) and Jay Ovittore (Bratton's former opponent in the primary, now not even seeking elected office) are. Both of them have Wikipedia entries. Rootsdj (talk) 17:50, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That argument is known as WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, and is not a valid one. Kissell has not only been a nominee, but almost won his election; the closeness and the vote count, along with his reputation as a Daily Kos contributor, put him (marginally) on the notable side of the ledger. If you feel he doesn't really belong, you're welcome to do a "prod". I'll look at Ovittore. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:53, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've also marked Jay Ovittore for deletion on the same grounds as Bratton. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 18:18, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
