Jester/Fools

Hi, I wonder if I could ask your advice, please? I noticed that you keep an eye on the Jester article and you mentioned on the talk page about possibly doing an article on 'Fools' so thought you might be the best person to ask! I've been playing around with an article for Jamie Fleeman, the Laird of Udny's Fool and he is frequently described as the "last family jester in Scotland". I think the article is getting near ready to be moved from my draft to main space. Do you feel it would be appropriate to include a link under the 'Notable jesters' section of the Jester article? Washington Monument

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you on this discussion. You may be right about how the Washington Monument isn't the tallest obelisk in the world and I know that Wikipedia shouldn't be used as a reference itself, however Wikipedia shouldn't contradict itself or be redundant. Giving two different facts on the same topic in an encyclopedia isn't right. It needs to be either one or the other. And the San Jacinto Monument article names it as a column. So there are some really contradicting articles here and I want to get this right. Leoesb1032 (talk) 16:30, 29 August 2014 (UTC)

Robyn, I hoped this could be avoided. There is a system introduced by Wikipedia where a term of larger interest, which does not have an article yet (no contradiction there, it happens a lot), is introduced nevertheless and it appears in red, signalling that it needs to be addressed. This system usually works, somebody sees it, "What, no article yet?!", takes the time and deals with it. The more "red flags", the more likely it is to happen. It is part of Wikipedia. On the very page you keep on stubbornly deleting this tiny detail, there are two more "red flags" which don't seem to bother you - and rightfully so (the Great Stele of Axum and the Jupiter temple of Baalbek). I hope I didn't give you any wrong ideas now, Axum and Baalbek are great places :-) Usually people older than 16-17-18 learn that they don't possess all wisdom. That truth isn't black and white. That you can have the last word and look silly, or let go and look smart. That your explanation "It hasn't got an article, so I remove it" doesn't stand up to ration. Often you can either have the last word, or be mature. It's all yours from here on. PS: Not all "terms" are juggling clubs or stone monoliths. Dan Bahat is a HIGHLY regarded, accomplished, kind and relatively old person. He deserves to be popularized, professionally for sure and otherwise also. I've made the same intervention on a dozen other pages in more prominent places than the list of references on an overview list on monoliths. Nobody else removed him. Draw your own conclusions. Unicycle Links

Yes you are right. No limits on Wikilinks. Was doing a clear out on various articles of external links which were dead, incorrect or promotional and I was too keen. However a list a manufacturers is not very informative without a link at all. Maybe those that aren't Wikilinked should go -Robynthehode (talk) 17:58, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

For what it's worth, I entirely sympathise with you. You have been bullied by a long-term editor who should know much, much better and who is enjoying a kind of immunity that many other editors never see. The gratuitous and overt personal attacks on you were something that many editors would be blocked for, and it's an interesting insight into his behaviour that, once warned by a couple of people, and despite his "eleven years" of experience here, he suddenly redacted his abuse. He has spent a long time criticising me for being "a jerk" and "one of the worst admins on Wikipedia" but I'm proud to say that I have never stooped to his gutter-level of personal attacks and indignation. I hope you aren't entirely put off by the experience, needless to say you should feel encouraged to continue to work here collaboratively, and not be dissuaded by the few bad apples. All the best. I wonder why you removed my contribution to the page Darth Vader. Maybe the information should go in some other part of page, but it is not true that it is not relevant. In fact, many America people are confused when they heard of "Darth Fener" because they do not know where it originates. They think is a character of a spin-off of the series. It is not. I don't believe you actually checked what changes I have made to the page List of tallest structures in the world by country. They included expanding several of the sections, removing buildings that were under construction and under 100m, and removing tables so that the article was consistently formatted. I have contacted User:Hexafluoride and requested the assistance of an administrator. Thanks for your message. No problem with sources but the source you used seemed to be unreliable because it was a Q & A website and you used an aggregate from this source to support your argument. The changes I made previously had already fixed the problem - WP:SOFIXIT was a description of the changes I made. It showed up as an undo because I used undo, then changed the citation before publishing. Now, I don't have a page number, since I don't currently have access to the Bodleian (opening hours). Australia (continent)

In the continent infobox, I added Ashmore and Cartier Islands as a dependency within the continent of Australia, to go along with the 3 countries in the continent (Australia, Papua New Guinea, and part of Indonesia). This was to parallel the infoboxes in other continent articles. For example, Africa lists 54-56 countries and 7 dependencies; Asia lists 49-55 countries and 6 dependencies (note that Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands are considered to be within Asia); and similarly for Europe, North America, and South America. I think Ashmore and Cartier Islands are clearly within the continent of Australia. I'm not sure about the Coral Sea Islands since they are not on the continental shelf (Sahul Shelf). Hi, I've noticed you reverted my accurate edit at The Terminator. If you have a doubt regarding why action should be listed, you should first check the credibility of the sources attached. I'm not trying to force an opinion, but facts are facts that it's an action film first and action covers most of the duration of the film. There is no point in taking it to the talk page because the editor who started this has everything set up along with his friends who always side with what he says. Another user like me had a debate over the right genre but they simply shut him up.

You just reverted an edit I made to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Red_Pill.

It's very seldom that I edit Wikipedia. Years ago I read the "5 Pillars of Wikipedia" article, but other than that I'm unfamiliar with how governance works on Wikipedia. So I need to ask a preliminary question first, before I ask my main questions.

Preliminary question: I don't know what roles Wikipedia provides for those who read and or edit articles. So, I don't know if you have some formal role regarding editing Wikipedia, or if you're simply another user like I am. Do you have some official role?

Main questions: When you reverted my edit, you added the comment, "Rotten Tomato audience ratings are not reliable. This is accepted across Wikipedia".

1. Is this an official Wikipedia rule? If so, is there an article like the "5 Pillars" article that specifies that Rotten Tomatoes Audience Scores are not permitted? And where can I find it?

2. What is the evidence to support your claim that "Rotten Tomato audience ratings are not reliable"?

3. When you say, "This is accepted across Wikipedia", it makes it sound like it's a convention rather than a formal rule. Is it? And again, what's your evidence that to support the claim?

Thanks for your comments and queries and for not immediately reverting my edit or yours (you'd be surprised how many editors do that). I will answer your queries in turn. However please be aware that the best place for these discussions is on the article talk page so all editors can see them.

1. There are no 'rules' in Wikipedia. All 'guidelines' are created by consensus. Having said that consensus decisions do become firm guidelines that (until successfully challenged by consensus) editors are expected to abide by. So the place to see the rule about Rotten Tomatoes audience scores is WP:UGC 2. The evidence is that the reviews are user generated. Any user generated content on a website is inherently unreliable (although it may accord with reliable sources WP:RS). Other user generated content not allowed is IMDB, personal blogs, almost all 'wikis' and even Wikipedia itself 3. I think I have explained this above

I have no formal role in editing Wikipedia. In fact no editor is above any other editor in deciding what content is included in Wikipedia. Decisions are made by consensus with editors following the 'rules'. There are administrators and others who act as mediators but no content editor makes final decisions. Please read this links they may be helpful WP:5P, WP:V, WP:BRD, and WP:HEP

That is what I put on an article. It is not something obvious, the English Wikipedia is the most read Wikipedia worldwide. It is not only read by people from English speaking countries. The editor who added the content is a sock who has been promoting this person for many years. The reason for reversion is Wikipedia:Blocking_policy#Edits_by_and_on_behalf_of_blocked_editors. This contortionist has been spammed for many years (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/VRAJESH SHAH) and is not notable. They won't be getting a page soon, as the title has been salted indef for around 2 years. Therefore, they shouldn't really be in "List of notable contortionists".
