Help

Hello, Red Director, How can I change my present username? Thanks. --SmileyBrown (talk) (talk) 01:14, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

Hello, Red Director!

I am recently new, however, I am trying to learn as much as I can about editing and following the guidelines. I am looking to add the name of a Mountaineer and Poet named Mekael Shane, who attended Central State University, but I have no idea of how to add his name to the Central State University article. When I Googled Central State University Notable Alumni, I see that Mekael Shane is listed there. When I Googled Mekael Shane, everything I read about him online, states that he "attended Central State University." I have no idea about how to write an article on Mekael Shane, but if I have to so that he is not deleted from the Central State University article, I'll gladly do so. What I'm curious about, is if there are smaller article styles whereupon an article about a subject can be written, like perhaps a smaller, more brief bio article or something similar? Is it possible if you could either create one on Mekael Shane, so I can see how it's done, or if you could guide me through the process? Either way, I'd appreciate your input and help.

Canadohta Lake

I just wanted to reach out to you about 11 months ago you edited Canadohta Lake, I wanted to reach you if possible to allow the community's history be shared, by my representation of small rural communities that their history is not recognized. I just want to ask if you could assist with any links to other wiki pages? If not I would consider the following, "History that is not shared shall stay in the dark forever, bring it into the light and let the story of origin be shared." Consider my words carefully, help me with any pages that I edit with historical data and information that is accurate, I want to surround myself with experts in making links to other wiki pages. Help

Hello again, Red Director!

Because I am new to Wikipedia, I appreciate your continued help. Thank you for your suggestion that I have my biography reviewed by a good biography editor. How do I find such an editor? Or do they automatically look for contributions in every new member's Sandbox? If so, how often do they look?

As you know, I have finished editing my first biography, which is now waiting in my Sandbox. Please let me know if I have to move it to another page so that a good editor can review it and hopefully approve it for publication.

Sincerely, Michael H. L. Hecker. Michael H. L. Hecker (talk) 18:00, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for including me!

Hi! I'd just like to thank you for including all my hard work on the Volume and Booster Series pages by including them in your Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game sets Template. It took a while, and it's nice that someone appreciates all that hard work! I'm adding the templates to them right now to those pages, so you don't have to worry about that.

Sorry for editing your template, but I just wanted to save some time while I was thinking about it. It was just a minor addition.

Richard Bull (musician)

The article Richard Bull (musician) has been or soon will be deleted from Wikipedia. This happened because the article seems to be about a subject but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. You might also want to read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles. See WP:MUSIC. Note regarding reverts

This is a friendly note regarding reverting vandalism. This revert of yours to South America reverted to the last version by an IP which had previously vandalised the page and which had also changed statistics without explaining why in an edit summary, nor citing any reliable sources for such a change. Please make sure that you are reverting to a good version by checking the "history" of a page. Cheers and happy editing! Jpeob 03:53, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

No worries. It's easy to do. Checking the history is a good habit to get into, however. By the way, feel free to respond to talk messages where the conversation starts. I'll watch! Cheers, Jpeob 03:58, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Hey, I noticed you beating me to a few reverts while I was using VandalProof. You don't seem to be using any tools, so I thought I'd give you some. VP is good, but Lupin's anti-vandal tool is excellent. Since you're working with us, we might as well make you more effective and efficient, eh? Oh, and here's a gift for you too.

Have a good day, and leave me a note if you have any questions! Xiong Chiamiov :: contact :: 05:14, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Vandal tags

Thank you for reverting vandalism on Wikipedia!

Be sure to put warning tags on the vandal's user talk page (such as {{subst:test}}, {{subst:test2}}, {{subst:test3}}, {{subst:test4}}). Add each of these tags on the vandal's talk page, in sequential order, after each instance of vandalism. Adding warnings to the talk page assists administrators in determining whether or not the user should be blocked. If the user continues to vandalize pages after you add the {{subst:test4}} tag, request administrator assistance at Request for Intervention. Again, thank you for helping to make Wikipedia better.Darry2385 04:49, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Diphenhydramine edit

Why was my edit in the "recreational use" segment on diphenhydramine reverted? It is extremely common for the drug to be taken up to 900mg and some daring individuals have taken well over that. It is also common knowledge in the diphenhydramine abuser underground that full hallucinations and interactions usually start after ingesting about 550mg.

Walrus

Hi Red Director, I assume you're trying to stop vandalism with your reverts at the Walrus page - seems like people like to vandalize it. However, take a look at the comments on the article discussion page I made (under etymology, IP address 192.168.2.102). There you'll see that my changes reflect the OED etymology, as well as the etymology to be found at http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=walrus. Do you have any info supporting the old etymology ("shore-giant")? If I don't hear back from you I'll just revert it again. Rosenkreutzer 07:33, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

You recently did a rv on several edits on Zune. The rv was large and you marked them as minor and you did not then start any comment on the discussion page. You may want to read Help:Reverting which states, in part, "If you feel the edit is unsatisfactory, improve it rather than simply reverting or deleting it." and then laster, "Do not revert changes simply because someone makes an edit you consider problematic, biased, or inaccurate. Improve the edit, rather than reverting it." You may also want to read Wikipedia:Assume_good_faith. 70.17.92.51 21:54, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Mountain rescue, individual mountain rescue teams articles?

I volunteer in a local mountain rescue organization, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group in the "real world." Our group has around 70 volunteers, and in numbers of emergency operations we are most likely the busiest volunteer mountain rescue team in the US (60 operations/ year). We are also one of the oldest volunteer mountain rescue teams in the US (founded in 1947). Some of our members have suggested that we should write an article for wikipedia on our team. I see that a one organization has already done this Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team. What do you think? Is a Wikipedia article on Rocky Mountain Rescue appropriate?DriveBy27 02:58, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Yu-Gi-Oh! Expansions

Hi R.D., I explained the reasoning for the format on my talk page in greater detail if you want to check. In short, it was to make the articles more encylopedic, comprehensive and organized, rather than just list every card in a set (which includes the infobox, release dates, mechanics explanations, etc.) The only reason that there is inconsistency between the formats is the fact that I haven't gotten around to introducing the new format to all the expansion pages, though I was intending to (I mentioned this on the Force of Breaker discussion page when someone else questioned the formatting a while ago; I was working backwards from Tactical Evolution, and got as far as Power of the Duelist the last time I found time for it). Anyways, I'll leave the pages as they are for now, but I do think the newer format is more precise as an encylopedia article (vs. a mere list, which can be looked up elsewhere). Drop a reply on my talk page. Ciao. --Benten 23:33, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Edit: Just thought I'd mention this. Since the previous versions of the pages that you reverted to are incomplete in terms of info and have some sp/grammar errors from before which I fixed while working on them, I'm going to change it back now (it doesn't really do much harm given that they've had the new format for quite a while already). If you want to continue discussing the matter, leave a message on my talk page. Cya. --Benten 13:29, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Got your message. I'm fine with there being a "+/-" range for sets in terms of notable card number, but I think there still has to be a reasonable maximum, as to prevent other editors from going all out and listing any number of cards. For the cards to be notable, I think there has to be a valid reason for them to be in the section, but aside from that, I'm in agreement for changing the format of all the articles to match the newer one. Ciao. --Benten 23:49, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article JaJuan Smith, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Thanks for your work in doing all those minor cleanups. God knows our NFL pages are littered with poor wording and grammatical errors that often go unchecked for years. Looks like you were a fairly prolific editor at one point. What made you decide to pick Wikipedia back up after nearly a decade? Lizard (talk) 16:56, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for the kind words. I used to love doing this a long time ago. I was part of various communities and got to know a good group of users. I just stopped for a while after some minor things here and there. I have had some free time over the holidays this year and have really enjoyed picking things back up. I was a constant lurker editing under IP addresses for a while in my hiatus. When I saw something, I would just fix it. I wanted to create an article a little ways back but could not under my IP so I just thought it was time to bring back the old account. Red Director (talk) 17:00, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
Well, I hope to see many more of your contributions in the future. Lizard (talk) 17:20, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

Sometimes i'll go 20 minutes or so between checking my watchlist and i'll come back and see your name 8 to 10 times with these fixes and that's just the articles on my watchlist. I've brought it up with an administrator. I have a pretty good idea of who it is, an IP hopper who's been stealthily creating havoc for a few months now. Most of their edits appear legitimate at first glance, and some of them actually are legitimate. It's becoming a pain. Lizard (talk) 02:08, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
Well, thank you for bringing with up with a higher up. I wish those with the abilities to be productive on here would actually do so. Red Director (talk) 02:15, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi! I probably should have dropped you a note here rather than reverting your edit, since I did not not know what the actual phrase should express. I think the phrase should be from the mid-50s to the mid-60s. The rise of the Black Power movement beginning in the mid-60s and the associated cultural changes fits as the end of the "Hughes' popularity among the younger generation of black writers varied..." period. I'm going to make that change now, and put a citation needed tag until I have a chance to find a reference. Perhaps you can find a better phrase. I appreciate your thanks message. — Neonorange (talk) 17:32, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for the explanation. I thought how the layout was presented required just a quick minor edit not intended to change the structure of the sentence. I appreciate you providing some information here. Red Director (talk) 19:00, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
I think it's how we are wired—one detail catches our attention and masks others. I find myself automatically assuming a sentence, paragraph, or section makes sense; that only a detail needs tweaking. But the nature of Wikipedia, with hundreds of editors with this same approach, is that articles slowly drift from coherence. Eventually, minor rewrites should be considered—the Hughes Career and Political views sections, perhaps.
Good to have the chance to talk with you. — Neonorange (Phil) 19:33, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Are you adding these commas to communities in all states? If not, please start — it's going to be confusing for future bot-runs if a huge number of communities have the comma and a huge number don't. Nyttend (talk) 04:26, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Will do. Red Director (talk) 06:54, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the response, and thanks very much for the edits. It's quite important for all the Rambot-created demographics sections to be of uniform style, simply because other people have done mass wording updates in the past and we can expect other mass wording updates to be done in the future — someone who's doing a wording update ought not to encounter slightly different formats in different articles. You're basically guaranteed to encounter these sections in articles about places that were municipalities or CDPs in the 2000 census; Rambot generated these sections from Census Bureau data for all municipalities and CDPs in 2002, and it's quite rare for someone to have added them manually to any articles that were created at other times. Therefore, your typical non-CDP unincorporated community won't have them, and probably the most common scenario for when they'd appear in an unincorporated non-CDP is when a 2000 census CDP was de-designated for the 2010 census (e.g. Mack North, Ohio or Midway, Washington County, Tennessee) or when a municipality has disincorporated (e.g. New Rome, Ohio or Columbia, Virginia), although a municipality that disincorporated before 2010 sometimes had CDP status (e.g. Alvordton, Ohio) for the 2010 census. New Page Reviewing

Hello, Red Director.

As one of Wikipedia's most experienced Wikipedia editors,
Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, Red Director. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Stephanie Johnson (Survivor constestant) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Phillip Fulmer, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page 2004 Peach Bowl (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

See also's

In your edit at Brett Hundley, you added see-also links at the top of each of his college subsections even though there were already links to the same seasons in prose. Per MOS:SEEALSO, see-alsos should not duplicate links that are already in prose. Please be careful to check the prose first before adding a see-also. Perhaps consider incorporating the season links into the prose in lieu of a bunch of see-also's mechanically added to begin each section? Thanks in advance.—Bagumba (talk) 08:28, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi Red Director and thank you for the message, your tips and encouragement. I am fascinated by Wikipedia, I mean the collective achievement and high quality it represents, and I appreciate your advice to be more compliant with rules necessary for the sustainability of this project.

I hope I can better contribute, although I am lacking time and maybe discipline (I am French, you know) for that. I am spending hours every week on Wikipedia ! Learning so much and having fun for free - I make donations at each request. This collective knowledge project gives me hope for the future of mankind.

Interlanguage links photo question

Hi Red Director and thank you for your comments. I have read WP:IUP, and WP:UPIMAGE. My question is about using public photos from Interlanguage links (links from a page in one Wikipedia language to an equivalent page in another language). If I provide interlingual links and use the exact same photos (including format, content, and copyright issues) is there any reason to prevent publishing these photos on the English language version of the page? Do I need to put photos into the Wikimedia Commons, if not there already? In some instances, the JPG file naming language is not the same ... what do you suggest? Cannot login to old account

hello. and thank you for your welcome message on my talk page. i used to edit before a lot many years ago under the name Dungbeetle, but when i tried to login to start editing again, it says, no email is associated with the account. so it will not allow a password reset as such. i did nt find anything to address that on the help pages, so i had to start a new account from scratch. but i would nt mind having those old edits added to my new account or vice versa. but because i do not want to give out my email, perhaps i forfeit the right to the aforementioned privilege, which is fine too. Hi Red, here's the problem I'm having over and over: I only edit 1-2 times a year, and the signature process is arcane at best. Census comma changes.

That was an interesting fix you added to the census paragraphs of various articles, to add a comma. It would be nice if all those boilerplate paragraphs could be rewritten to remove stuff like the population being "spread out," which makes no sense at all. Anyway, it is nice that you are keeping an eye on the details. Sincerely, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 19:33, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Orlicz-Pettis Theorem

There is a stub with this title. I produced a full entry for this stub. Everything is fine, with one exception: The crucial line that follows does not print and the reference to Pettis article does not show. What should I do? Below those three lines I copy my full entry from the Sandbox. The missing line is in the source just before the sentence starting Also Dunford... Math45-oxford (talk) 20:21, 21 May 2018 (UTC)

Pettis directly referred to Orlicz's theorem in Banach's book. Needing the result in order to show the coincidence of the weak and strong measures, he provided a proof. [1].
