Infobox Officeholder, Post-nominals and HTML

This is a quick enquiry and I have read Infobox officeholder documentation & Formatting of name & honorifcs.

I can understand the need to remove customised html code which complicates use of Wikipedia in media other than a web browser. I've found span tags in a group of articles and attempts to remove the tags are reverted. Can you tell me the wikipedia policy/basis for removing html that caused all of the work you undertook in Formatting of name & honorifics? - Karl Stephens (talk|contribs) 12:56, 15 April 2014 (UTC)

This was a great start and exactly what I would have suggested: by using it you can better discover what it needs to work. The red warning on the page you edited ("Editiere hier bitte nicht von Hand. Gehe stattdessen zu Wikipedia:Persönliche Bekanntschaften/neue Anfragen.") translates to: Please do not edit this page. Go to de:Wikipedia:Persönliche Bekanntschaften/neue Anfragen instead. Although the bot fixed it you can help improving the English manual (that I now boldly launched to WP:Personal acquaintances) in this respect. Perhaps some of the Screenshots should be added, with English explanation.

Infobox animal breed

Hi, Andy! There seems to be something wrong with {{Infobox animal breed}}, where the "Horns" parameter appears not to work. An example is at Charolais cattle, where the field appears to be correctly filled, but the result does not display. I'm not sure if this is the only field that isn't working. Racecourse boxes

Andy, I think that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Infobox_racecourse is actually the most often used box for horse race tracks. It would be a really bad idea to merge it with the motorsports ones. I'd prefer some kind of dab linking to separate ones for motor sports and horse racing. Not sure where the discussion is on it though, the links are messed up. Montanabw(talk) 18:02, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

FWIW, on the horse race infoboxes, I thought I was making things simpler. One beats two, two beat four, but dirt and turf sure as heck don't need separate boxes and they should be combined into a single one with a "surface=" parameter added if needed. JMO Montanabw(talk) 23:45, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

I've tried to maintain a healthy attitude towards COI, so I'm thinking that won't be an issue The festival is covered every year in papers and the likes, but the information there is never complete. Opera singers

Example: Katia Plaschka, I like infobox person, but certain parameters for classical singers are missing, such as voice type, field (opera, oratorio), label. See also. Can those be included from a different infobox, if yes, how? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:03, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

A group of editors (you can image who) have been very resistant to allowing the inclusion of such key information. A work around is to use {{Infobox musical artist}} (or to use that as a module of {{infobox person}}, and put, say, "Soprano voice" in the |Instrument= parameter, or, in {{infobox person}}, "Operatic tenor" in |known_for= or |occupation=. Hi Andy,

Sorry for being curt, it's a bad habit of mine.

The only two people responding, you and Tony, were both reframing the issue into one about me and my personal preferences. I honestly don't think it has anything to do with that.

In the discussions that I've been involved with, the effect of a lot of links on readability has been seen as a problem that affects a large percentage of readers --- enough of them to make it something worth discussing. And it hasn't been just about overlinking. If I misinterpreted those discussions, I'm prepared to drop the button issue with my apologies for wasting people's time. But I've yet to come across anyone who feels that a lot of links improve readability. Those who don't have a problem with readability could simply ignore the new button. I can't understand why anyone would oppose, except perhaps the developers who might feel they have more important things to do. That would be a separate issue, and not for us to debate.
