Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

Welcome OLYMPICHAMMER!
Hello OLYMPICHAMMER. Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions!

I'm Ad Orientem, one of the other editors here, and I hope you decide to stay and help contribute to this amazing repository of knowledge.

Some pages of helpful information to get you started:
  Introduction to Wikipedia
  The five pillars of Wikipedia
  Editing tutorial
  How to edit a page
  Simplified Manual of Style
  The basics of Wikicode
  How to develop an article
  How to create an article
  Help pages
  What Wikipedia is not
Some common sense Dos and Don'ts:
  Do be bold
  Do assume good faith
  Do be civil
  Do keep cool!
Do maintain a neutral point of view
  Don't spam
  Don't infringe copyright
Don't edit where you have a conflict of interest
  Don't commit vandalism
  Don't get blocked
If you need further help, you can:
  Ask a question
or you can:
  Get help at the Teahouse
or even:
Ask an experienced editor to "adopt" you

Alternatively, leave me a message at my talk page or type {{Help me}} here on your talk page and someone will try to help.

There are many ways you can contribute to Wikipedia. Here are a few ideas:
  Fight vandalism
Be a WikiFairy or a WikiGnome
  Help contribute to articles
  Perform maintenance tasks

Become a member of a project that interests you
  Help design new templates
Subscribe and contribute to The Signpost
Translate articles from Wikipedias in other languages

To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}} on your user page. By the way, seeing as you haven't created a user page yet, simply click here to start it.

Please remember to:

  • Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes ~~~~ at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp.
  • Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.
The best way to learn about something is to experience it. Explore, learn, contribute, and don't forget to have some fun!

Sincerely, Ad Orientem (talk(Leave me a message) 02:30, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Help me![edit]

Please help me with... Will somebody review Draft: Art Venegas and help me with what are being called unreliable sources? I am using publications LA Times, Track and Field News and other independent articles and YouTube interview videos OLYMPICHAMMER (talk) 02:34, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you were editing Draft:Art Venegas while logged out, since there is nothing to show that you've edited that draft with this account.
You can request that a draft be reviewed by using the submit button (or WP:SUBMIT), not by using the {{help}} templates.
You are not using the <ref></ref> tags as you should to create footnotes. You could probably benefit from looking at: User:Nick Moyes/Easier Referencing for Beginners
Once you fix the referencing, it might be time to submit the draft for review again. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 03:24, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have made extensive changes to comply with the Wikipedia editorial rules as they have been explained to me, can you take a look at Draft: Art Venegas? OLYMPICHAMMER (talk) 00:38, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

January 2024[edit]

Hello. I wanted to let you know that your recent edit(s) to Bill Green (hammer thrower) have been removed because you cited the information you added to another Wikipedia article or an external wiki. As discussed at WP:CIRCULAR and WP:SPS, Wikipedia and other wikis should not be used in citations because they are not considered reliable sources. You are welcome to re-add the information using a different reference, perhaps from the article you originally linked to. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. AntiDionysius (talk) 00:32, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I noticed that you may have recently made edits to Art Venegas while logged out. Please be mindful not to perform controversial edits while logged out, or your account risks being blocked from editing. Please consider reading up on Wikipedia's policy on multiple accounts before editing further. Additionally, making edits while logged out reveals your IP address, which may allow others to determine your location and identity. If this was not your intention, please remember to log in when editing.

And again, you have a COI so should not be editing the article directly. Consider this a warning. Continuing may result in both your account and IP being blocked. S0091 (talk) 18:57, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, OLYMPICHAMMER. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. S0091 (talk) 18:21, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Art Venegas[edit]

Just letting you know that I accepted your submission of Art Venegas. BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:50, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, are we close to approval for posting? OLYMPICHAMMER (talk) 17:52, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's what @BeanieFan11 means by "accepting". It is now an article and part of the encyclopedia...for real!
Oh, and for record Beanie, I agree with removing the COI tag. Had you not removed it, I would have as it was only meant as a temporary notice after the draft was resubmitted. S0091 (talk) 20:11, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to all the editors for the education on the Wikipedia quality control process.... OLYMPICHAMMER (talk) 20:13, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi OLYMPICHAMMER, given you have a conflict of interest you should not edit the article directly including logged out, other than small copy edits, but rather make edit requests. You might find the Edit Request Wizard handy. S0091 (talk) 15:20, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
