This is to let you know that the John Tyndall (far-right activist) article has been scheduled as today's featured article for July 24, 2022. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/July 24, 2022, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:36, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

john tyndall[edit]

hello, Midnightblueowl! i had a question regarding this article and the associated blurb. had tyndall specifically called for the use of military means to reëstablish the british empire? he clearly had taken part in paramilitary activities, but i could not find anything either in the article body or in the cited copsey source that stated that he had envisioned a recolonization of africa through "military conquest". dying (talk) 19:57, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I did not see this prior to the article being TFA; I've been on a Wikibreak and am not active here much at present. Midnightblueowl (talk) 17:56, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

TFA[edit]

Thank you for John Tyndall (politician), "about one of the most prominent fascists in British history, a man who went from an involvement in various Neo-Nazi militia groups in the 1960s to becoming leader of the National Front in the 1970s and the founder of the British National Party in the 1980s. Although Tyndall is dead and the parties that he was involved with now drift around in political obscurity, he remains a central figure in the history of the British far-right, ranking alongside Oswald Mosley and Nick Griffin. The article is particularly topical given the recent media interest in fascist and Neo-Nazi groups in both Britain (particularly National Action) and the United States."! This man put a curse on my family, I need help tracking his living decedents to lift the curse. My family is the Antrobus family, the one who owned Stonehenge and got cursed by him. 72.33.2.46 (talk) 00:23, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Recent changes throughout Wikipedia[edit]

Hello Midnightblueowl,

You might be interested in this recent change which has annulled the choice you made a few years ago, based on academic usage, of uppercase "modern Paganism" to distinguish the modern new religious movement(s) from "ancient paganism" (lowercase), thus abolishing the distinction between the two categories.

As one of the most productive Wikipedia contributors, editor of some of the most well-written articles of the encyclopaedia, you might also be interested in the upcoming Vector 2022 changes to the Wikipedia interface, which, in my opinion, by eliminating the table of contents below articles' ledes will impair many articles' layout and obliterate the very important function of the table of content as a clear "mapping" of articles' structures and contents.

I have also left a pair of papers here that might be useful sources for further developments of the Heathenry article. Æo (talk) 15:28, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message, Æo, and for your kind words about my editing. I'll look into the two issues that you have brought to my attention. Midnightblueowl (talk) 11:45, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

East Asian religions[edit]

The Shinto article has to be one of the most thorough and readable articles I've seen on WP. I am curious, have you ever given thought to working on other East Asian religions? If you don't mind me asking, what drew you to Shintoism anyways? Aza24 (talk) 04:30, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Aza24: Thank you for your message - it's nice to hear that the work I've put in has had some impact. Shinto is a fascinating religion, and yes I would be interested in trying to improve other articles on East Asian religions in future, although in recent years I've been focusing more on improving coverage of African diasporic religions here at Wikipedia (Santería, Haitian Vodou, Palo (religion), Nation of Islam etc). I need to get around to doing some more with the Shinto article, hopefully to the point of taking it to GA and FA status. Midnightblueowl (talk) 11:08, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I admire your African diasporic religions focus—certainly an underdeveloped area (that is, before you additions). I have long been interesting in the hodgepodge which is so-called Chinese folk religion. I've have played with the idea of working on it, mainly because it is so easy for a topic like that to accumulate meaningless cruft, since its classification into a single 'cohesive concept' is so problematic in the first place, it would take serious consideration to present properly. I will probably work on more Confucian topics first though, which I am more familiar with. I would be glad to help/review if you tackle any East Asian religions in the future. Aza24 (talk) 05:23, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Aza24: Thanks again. Both Chinese folk religion and Confucianism are important topics and it will be great to see coverage of them improved in the coming months and years. Midnightblueowl (talk) 16:03, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm at a loss for words—well done so far! Should be in nice company with the terrific article on Korean mythology that became a GA a few years ago.
I wasn't aware that Korean Shamanism was so suppressed by Confucianism, though I can't say I'm surprised. A lot of writings by Mencius, Xunzi etc. spend half the text simply attacking other Taoism, Mozi or Legalism. Then when Buddhism came to China, Confucian scholars suddenly became hugely prolific again, just to attack that tradition! Aza24 (talk) 21:32, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Aza24: Thank you, again. Obviously, there is still a lot to do on the Korean shamanism article, but hopefully I've knocked it into a shape where it is more useful for readers unfamiliar with the topic. How are you getting along with the Confucian topics? I agree that there is quite a bit of work needed on the Chinese folk religion article too, so perhaps we could both spend some time tackling that at a point in future? I've always found both Chinese folk religion and Daoism to be particularly interesting; I know less about Confucianism, as interesting as it is. Midnightblueowl (talk) 09:49, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I usually like to tackle one big Chinese-related topic at a time, so I'm still trying to finish up User:Aza24/List of Chinese monarchs, which should be done in a week or two. My WP contributions to Confucianism are fairly limited, mainly Xun Kuang; thankfully the main Confucianism article is decent enough (though probably not completely worthy of GA status).
Both the Chinese folk religion and Daoism articles are rather strange—they are very well sourced, but poorly organized. I'd be certainly willing to work on either, but would have to read up more so on Chinese folk religion than Daoism. Aza24 (talk) 21:20, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
