Userpage

I'm giving you the Excellent User Page Award for inspiring me to rebuild my User page.

Your userpage is awesome. Now, Im going to rebuild my userpage using your userpage format. If Im going to have problem doing my page, I'll just give you message. Thanks! Awesome page :) Hedwig0407 03:49, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Ok, your page really awesome. It takes me minutes to find the source of your main userpage. (I hope you know what Im talking about). I've seen other userpages you made for others, and I like the page of Mkdw. Would you please make me starter code for my page? Use the layout of Mkdw (but I dont mean exactly) and your page (like the borders in your page). Include: About Me and Contact Me. Then make separate table for my userboxes (refer to my userpage for the different categories of my userboxes). Thank you.

By the way, how/where did you put your http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mets501/Content? Hedwig0407 05:23, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Never mind the message. :) You may delete that. I've manage to know. Thanks. Hedwig0407 05:51, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Good day again! Thank you again for inspiring me to rebuild my page. I'm now in the process of putting finishing touches, but it's 99.9% done. If you have time, please visit my page and have a look. It's my pleasure if you put my name on the Userpages who "designed by me or inspired by this page". Also, I want to put something on my page that gave you recognition or acknowledgment of inspiring me but I can't think of what it is. If you have simple idea on how I can acknowledge you, please leave me a message in my talk page. Again thank you. :) Hedwig0407talk 02:25, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Everybody Votes Channel

Could you please protect this redirect page (along with the similar page called "Everybody Votes")? There was an AFD and the result was "redirect and protect", but it wasn't protected since an anon IP just vandalized the page by restoring it back to how it was before the AFD. TJ Spyke 06:41, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Can you please UNPROTECT this redirect page and revert it to the full page? There was indeed an AFD, and the outcome was "redirect and protect". And then there was a deletion review, and the outcome was "redirect unprotected; undoing the merge, adjusting it, or leaving it be is an editorial decision for the two article's talk pages". There is a topic on the talk page for such a discussion. TJ Spyke took part in the deletion review, so I can't quite see how he's forgotten about it already. Tim 14:15, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Wikiproject Scouting userboxes

Your bot has been moving the various userboxes associated with Wikiproject Scouting. I am not sure what prompted you to do that, but we would have preferred that you initiate a discussion on the project talk page first. If nothing else, the wholesale movement has caused some consternation and possibly engenders antagonism where none previously existed. Anyway, we are considering other options. If we come to a consensus, can we employ your bot to help us implement our proposed solution? Let me know. --NThurston 21:08, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Scouting project userboxes

(pasted from project talk page) Hi, I'm the owner of MetsBot, who moved these userboxes. If people here would prefer, I have no problem with moving all of the scouting-related userboxes in Category:Scouting user templates to a subpage of Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting; just give me the word and I'll have those templates moved and their references on Userpages updated. —METS501 (talk) 21:57, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

I like this best of all...please them here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/Userboxes. Thanks. Rlevse 22:05, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Delete link when moving pages

Hello Mets501. I see you removed the link to delete redirects from MediaWiki:Pagemovedtext, providing JavaScript on the talk page that dynamically builds the delete link for administrators instead. This method is relatively clumsy; it requires that administrators find the MediaWiki page, notice the JavaScript code on its talk page, and install it before they can have a delete link. This will not work if they disabled JavaScript, which is not uncommon.

It is far simpler to add a link directly to the message and hide it with CSS from non-administrators (<span style="display:none;" class="admins">). Administrators can add a line (.admins { display:inline; }) to their CSS file to enable all such admin-only content project-wide. Does this alternative CSS method sound reasonable? —{admin} Pathoschild 02:02:44, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

That was actually the method I supported, but it was rejected by the community (if I can find the discussion I'll give you a link to it). It's much superior, but not acceptable to people (for some reason or another). Actually, maybe we can do something with the new wgUserGroups array in the sitewide javascript? Like the delete link would appear automatically if the user is a member of the "sysop" group. What do you think? —METS501 (talk) 04:04, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
I've found the discussion you're referring to in the common stylesheet archives. That array makes things much easier. We could write a single script for administrators that generates content on all forms, with nonstandard attributes to pass data to the script more efficiently (ie, <span id="admins" placeholder="deletelink" title="$2"></span>). Coded properly, non-administrators will only have to parse the condition check. How does that sound? —{admin} Pathoschild 23:02:13, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. Are you up to writing it? My javascript skills are less than I'd like them to be :-) —METS501 (talk) 23:49, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
I'll write it sometime soon, then. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 00:02:40, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Automated message to bot owners

As a result of discussion on the village pump and mailing list, bots are now allowed to edit up to 15 times per minute. The following is the new text regarding bot edit rates from Wikipedia:Bot Policy:

Until new bots are accepted they should wait 30-60 seconds between edits, so as to not clog the recent changes list and user watchlists. After being accepted and a bureaucrat has marked them as a bot, they can edit at a much faster pace. Bots doing non-urgent tasks should edit approximately once every ten seconds, while bots who would benefit from faster editing may edit approximately once every every four seconds.

Also, to eliminate the need to spam the bot talk pages, please add Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard to your watchlist. Future messages which affect bot owners will be posted there. Thank you. --Mets501 04:19, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Once every four seconds? People have connections fast enough to do that? Lucky them... – Qxz 08:34, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

User:UBX migrations

Hi Mets501, when I noticed all your activity moving userboxes, I posted some questions at Wikipedia talk:Userbox migration#User:UBX. Even though you reference the UBX migration, none of the "old timers" seemed to know what you were up to. Maybe you can enlighten us about what's going on at that thread.

Let me say that I support your actions. In fact, I have two requests for you to do:

  1. move all userboxes at User:Rfrisbie/Userbox to User:UBX, bypassing the created redirects; and
  2. move User:Rfrisbie/Userbox with its related subpages to one of your user areas. Ideally, IMHO, User:Rfrisbie/Userbox would go to User:UBX, but that would be up to you.

In any event, I am going to have all these pages removed from my user area. Based on your recent activity, you seem to be the perfect recipient. No matter what you decide, please make your reply to these requests at this thread. Thanks, Rfrisbie 23:29, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

I have absolutely no opinion where all the userboxes should go, but I don't quite understand why (only?) {{User Bosnia and Herzegovina}} was moved to User:UBX/Bosnia and Herzegovina, when no other Category:Nation of origin user templates was? WP:GUS still refers only to controversial userboxes, and it has the clause "If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. " right? Duja 16:27, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Educational userboxes

You recently said "All the templates regarding...educational experience...are staying in template space." at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Scouting#WikiProject Scouting Userboxes. Yet you recently userfied {{User ISU Cyclone}}. Someone complained on my talkpage about it because my bot was changing links to it, and I quite agree with him. The education-related userboxes should stay in template space. Please put it back.--Dycedarg ж 16:10, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

AWB Notification Area Icon

Hi Jeremy, Was just thinking, we could setup AWB to be able to be 'minimised' to the notification area?

Do you think that would be a useful feature, of course, at the users choice.

Cheers

Sam Reedy Boy 19:43, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, that would be cool. Do you know how to do it though? :-) —METS501 (talk) 02:28, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Yup, i know how to do it, i've only really done it with it displaying at form load, ie its set in design mode, but i thin i'll be able to sort it =) Reedy Boy 10:23, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

AWB Bug: %%key%% includes namespace

I've got a fix for that one, ie if "Author:" is in the string, it replaces it with ""

That should solve it i think

Its just the other namespaces.... I'll commit it, but im not 100% sure

Any ideas?

Reedy Boy 22:51, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

RE: Bot Bug

Thanks for pointing that apostrophe problem out and fixing it. I did notice that soon after that particular run was done. I fixed the bug in the bot and all the instances of the error I could find, but I guess I missed a page. Plugin Settings Saving/Loading

Jeremy, Can steve and i borrow you at some point, and see if we can get this worked out for his plugin?

As it is getting a bit of a pain, steve did manage to save/load a string, but didnt get much further

Then when thats done, we can update the Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Plugins page, with some examples!

Ta,

Reedy Boy 14:37, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

I've found the problem and am currently trying to solve it by altering AWB to recognise the types that the plugin is attempting to save. If this doesn't work I'll go for the simpler route of having AWB provide some generic settings objects for plugins to use. Either way, I'd like commit access please.
Am hoping Sam will be online soon as I'm a bit stuck on some probably simple C# syntax! :( --kingboyk 18:23, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Encyclopedia-helping userboxes?

Could you perhaps explain why seemingly innocuous, beneficial-to-collaboration userboxes like User:UBX/pagan are being moved out of templatespace? Are we going to see WikiProject userboxes moved out of templatespace next (i.e., I don't see a significant distinction between "This user is interested in paganism" and "This user is a member of WikiProject Paganism")? -Silence 22:50, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Move requests at South Tyrol and Trentino-South Tyrol

Hello Mets501, I remember you were familiar with this debate. Also, I'd like to get some more native English speakers to weight in, so this doesn't turn into an Italian vs. German speakers vote. Request: Please revisit "Data Matrix" vs. "DataMatrix" title debate

Hi Mets501,

A few months back we had a brief discussion on the correctness of title for the article currently named "DataMatrix" (see original message at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Mets501/Archive_11#Are_you_sure_you_want_to_move_.22Data_Matrix.22.3F)

I suggested my opinion that "Data Matrix" (two words) is the official and correct title for the article, and you reopened the conversation on the Discussion page of that article. It appears there are other people on the Discussion page of that article that agree with me, but I don't think anyone has weighed in since I made my first comment.

Are you comfortable renaming the article back to the "Data Matrix" title? If not, please let me know if there's anything I can do to help explain my reasoning.

Thanks, Mblaughton 20:01, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Trentino-South Tyrol

In the straw poll those against the current title of the page won 6-2, in the survey those proposing Trentino-Alto Adige are winning 9-8 (but pleas note that between those 8, there are 2 users who explicitly said that they dislike any title not comprising both Alto Adige and South Tyrol, so they oppose the status quo too, making those against the current title win 11-6).

Thus there is a clear majority of users against the current title. This is a point of no turning back. From this point we won't need to discuss anymore about Trentino-South Tyrol, 'cos this option has been refused by 11 users out of 17.

Now we need to move the discussion on only 3 options: Trentino-Alto Adige, Trentino-Alto Adige/South Tyrol and Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol. If none of the 3 options reaches the majority, we'll have a second round with the 2 most voted ones. What do you think about it? --Checco 17:17, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Help with a template

Hello! I am the Lead Coordinator for the WikiProject Paintball, but unfortunately I am not much of a "Wikipedia programmer." I'm simply not familiar with the Wiki markup, although I'm fluent in HTML and ActionScript, so I learn quickly. I've tried to understand the source code, but I simply don't "get" how templates work in Wikipedia. If you could show me a link to a helpful guide, or give me a little crash course, it would be VERY MUCH appreciated! Thanks, RavenStorm 01:29, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
