Mavis Wilton

Meaning to ask you....

Right, I remember far back you deleted the image of Lydia.S of Heather.C's article. So the image on Abi Branning, is a free image and can be used anywhere right? Stop me if im reallly wrong! Well anyway, couldnt we do that with the image of Lydia? MayhemMario 07:31, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

The image I removed from Heather Chasen's article was a non-free screen shot, which cannot be used as a free alternative could be found. Neither image in Abi's article are free, so they can't be used anywhere else. - JuneGloom Talk 11:53, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Sure. I'm looking for a project (just babysitting my latest FAC and waiting for a book for my next), and I can always find time for a redhead. I've been thinking about an overhaul for a while. The biggest problem is the lack of sources, or rather the abundance of tabloid drivel but not much of encyclopaedic value. Still, we can see what we can do. Where do you want to start? The first time I saw here was in her first Doctor Who episode in that police uniform. I think my jaw dropped! The article seems to attract random bursts of editing, even when she's not on the telly, and then it goes quiet. Most of my edits so far have been cleaning up the result. I've been working on this for a while, but I seem to have writer's block and need something else to do. Where to start? Hmm, I guess we could create a userpage, where we can work on the article and start to find some new sources (I have a habit of just dumping them on the page and then organising them like here). Shame! But I live in the arsehole of nowhere (but hopefully not for much longer!) and can't afford to get to London. That sounds like a good idea. One of the things I've found when I've taken over half-written articles is that they never seem to get the best out of the sources, so it's probably worth going through the sources we already have as well. That and writing FAs has taught me to distrust any source I didn't put there! I'd be surprised if there was enough for a GA, but you never know. Libby Kennedy

Hi June!

Firstly, I've only just realised that it was your birthday last month, so a belated Happy Birthday! I hope you had a lovely day.

Secondly, Libby Kennedy is no longer listed as a character on either the channel 5 Neighbours website (http://www.channel5.com/shows/neighbours/characters) or the Australian Neighbours website (http://neighbours.com.au/characters-by-street-number.html). I've searched online to find out more information, but couldn't find any that definitively says that Kym is no longer a member of the cast. I just thought I'd keep you updated, in case you didn't already know and you want to change the list of characters on Wiki! I'd do it myself, but the Neighbours page is yours and RaintheOne's thing, so I don't want to interfere! :)

As for Libby, it is weird they've removed her profiles from the websites. Though both sites have recently gone through a revamp, so it could be an accident or they could be waiting until she comes back. She is still in the credits (not the end ones though, but then Tom Oliver isn't listed either and he's still part of the cast) and there's been no word about her not returning to the show. Neighbours, H&A and W&L

Hellorr. A new section, now how about that. What do you think of this ref for W&L reception? [1] Or are they too amutuer? Now, The W&L's cast looks a little messy. What kind of small table would you suggest to put them in? Fields could be "Character, Actor, Seasons and Ref" .. ? Then for Miles Copeland, what more do you think needs to be done? Can you make a sortable table? I'll leave the blog out then. I've got a scenario for you. Say Declan returns played by James and it turns out Erin's Declan was his evil twin named Bob. Would you think it is a good idea to create an article for Bob. If you did what would you do about all the development sections applying to Declan whilst Bob was imposting? Sorry, I went to bed early on Weds and Thurs, so I forgot all about this. I'm working on the table now. That situation kinda sounds similar to the Robinson twins in Neighbours. It's tricky, I guess I'd create an article for Bob if he was notable after the deception came to light (otherwise a list entry would be fine). I don't know what to do about the development info though, possibly put it into Bob's article, but amend it to say things like "While Bob was impersonating Declan he set fire to a house" (or whatever he did). - JuneGloom Talk 18:10, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Actually add the season column when season two begins. It seems a little redundant (However you spell it) to add it atm with their being one season. I might move Miles now then? Tables are done. I don't think Miles is quite finished. We need a lead and there are still three sources on the page that either need adding or removing. It failed because I got disheartened about a couple of things raised and then forgot about the whole thing. It's poor form, which is why I wanted to get back in the saddle as it were. I've started writing about three or four lists, but Atonement is the only one that hasn't given me any trouble yet. Just remember there is no rush and Miles can wait a little longer. Yeah, I've got a lot of work offline, lol. I suppose I could start putting it all together in my userspace and then find a friendly admin to move it for me. The thing about Kyle is he spent a lot of time being a recurring character and they don't often get written about. I had a similar problem with Sonya, even when she became a regular, there wasn't that many sources around. It's not until they're given a big storyline or become part of one, do they get noticed. The exception to that rule are characters like Chris, Diana and the upcoming Martin Chambers, have you seen how development info he has already? This is where I'm confused. I cannot find a home and away images category. I can create a category for these cast, but I was thinking more of a gallery too, like this one. I'm guess we could give it a go, I like his article too. :) I would hold off on adding another image to Ruby's article. You don't want it to become too cluttered with images and quote boxes. Yeah, exactly the same as Hollyoaks are doing with band Daytona Lights. We included the actors name, but because we do not know the names of their characters - we just used a TBA field for all of them. Red Cotton are lucky enough to have a debut date of January though. Basically E4 Hollyoaks first look of Mondays episode aired tonight. Out of no where Daytona Lights members Louis and Lawrence make their debut in the show. When the credits roll it said Louis as the character, the actor was listed simply "As himself". So what I did was have Louis and Lawrence in the character column of the table, and "As themselves" in the actor column. But Danny said it sounded like the I got it the wrong way around and that "as themselves or as himself" should be in the chartacter field. But I didn't think it made sense because you read as himself first, then the actors actual name after. I did not want to set it out as "Louis Souyaye played by Louis Souyaye" because I wanted to make a point they are playing themselves in the show. Confusing. But I listed it like I did because HO credits did, and often movies list Cameo appearances as "Eminem - As himself".RaintheOne BAM 00:49, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
If I've understood this right, then I think I agree with your method. If the band are not playing characters, then they should be credited as Themselves/Himself. I noticed they have a section on the 2011 list, and you may not like this, but the table in the middle of the prose does not look good (to me). One of the sleepers Checkuser found on the last request uploaded the image to Jacqueline Jossa's page. I asked HJ Mitchell to take a look at the image and he's in agreement with me - he thinks it looks like a copyvio. I googled it before and I did find it on websites like Facebook, am starting to think that the editor simply copied and pasted the image from there and wrongly uploaded it on Commons giving it a false certificate to say it's free when it's not. I've asked him to look and see if the editor that uploaded the image to Commons is related to the one that actually added it to the article.

Request checkuser, got it. It wouldn't surprise me if Jossa's image is a copyvio. While you're here, Dweeby was around earlier on Rainie Cross' article I believe. To me her image just looks too posed, well for a photo that has supposedly been taken by a fan. I did wonder if it was a photo or something from her agency but when I looked the image she has is totally different, at least the image she has now is. That's not to say this isn't an old image lol but the only way I'll find that out is if I ask and I can't do that because if it is I'll land Wikipedia in trouble!

Random question

Hi this is totally off your usual subjects as i wanted to find somone who is neutral that knows nothing about the situation but is well aware of wikipedia and referencing etc, I have someone in another article that is editing it and has a problem with me editing it. There is proven evidence from a reference i have provided that backs up my edit but cause this person hasnt read the book they are unaware of the evidence. This is random. Well, when you add an offline source (like a book) to an article, other editors are supposed to assume good faith and trust the information is correct and present in the book if they do not have a copy. I notice neither of you have taken this to the talk page yet, so I would go there now and start a discussion. State what information you would like to add to the article and what your source is. Ask why your edit wasn't accepted, there could be a good reason. The last thing anyone wants is an edit war. You will never be able to change the fact that some articles are related to Bank Hall. I suppose it could really be either way in that article. The COD is a publication of the Oxford University Press, which of course is a U.K. publisher. It lists a generally-preferred spelling first, which in this case is "-ize", so I believe "-ize" should be acceptable in British English. However, it also lists "-ise" secondarily, so neither is really wrong. The Wikipedia article that you referred to says that in the U.S., "-ise" would be considered incorrect, but both seem to be acceptable elsewhere. I also note that the sentence in question was about U.S. publication, and the referenced source used "-ize" and was a U.S. newspaper, so perhaps that sentence could lean toward U.S. usage. To me, it's not really so important (and I won't revert you again if you choose to repeat your edit). I am not a subscriber to the dogma used by some people for some articles that I edit, where some people say that if it is produced in Scotland it must always be referred to as "whisky" and if it is produced in Ireland it has to be called "whiskey". —BarrelProof (talk) 20:40, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

The subsection entitled "British usage" in that article section at American and British English spelling differences#-ise, -ize (-isation, -ization) is interesting reading. It says that while Oxford strongly prefers -ize, Cambridge prefers -ise, and -ise is more common in mass-market publications. It also says that "-ize is often incorrectly viewed in Britain as an Americanism". It points to the Greek root as the distinction of when to use which, as I did. Words not from the Greek are suggested to use -ise. Neighbours External Links

Just a quick question - I've seen that you have improved the external links on Neighbours. However, whilst you have fixed a few links and added some new ones, I noticed you removed the tours, nights and Perfect Blend. Could you clarify why these have been removed, as they all appear to be active and relevant still?

Hi. It did kinda seem like we were promoting the tours and the nights. The tour is vaguely mentioned in the article itself, but the nights aren't. I also couldn't see how they enhanced the reader's knowledge of the subject. The Perfect Blend is essentially a fansite, so I removed that per WP:ELNO. - JuneGloom Talk 15:04, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
An argument could be made that The Perfect Blend provides a unique resource beyond what an encyclopaedia article can offer, but it's very much a case of editorial judgement and trying to keep the linkfarm under control. While the ELs are under discussion though, I'd be inclined to remove "TV.com", "What's on TV", and "The Soap Show", and I'm not entirely sure what the "Official Erinsborough News" website is adding. I don't really have any objection to PB being added back. I did question The Soap Show, I'm not entirely sure where that one came from (it's been there for a while though). I thought the What's on TV one would be okay. They have a history of the show, get exclusive interviews with the cast and provide episode summaries. Apologies for not coming back to this - I wasn't aware anyone had replied. Whilst I do feel they are beneficial, I appreciate your views on the tours and nights links. However, Perfect Blend is a good resource and in my opinion, better than some listed. What's On TV seems slightly questionable, as clearly, lots of other websites provide similar content. The Erinsborough News website is a little odd, as the content is minimal and will be confusing to most readers, due to its in show setting. I've been thinking about it the other day. We've got a reference to support that her contract ran out in October - but with Libby being removed from the credits, it adds to that. I know that there is info on his birth episode, something about Dan, he had a storyline in 2009 in which he was bullied (not looked for anything yet though) and through Leah's storyline's last year, Nicodemou described the effect it had on VJ. Who did I ask? the sock puppet? Well it was initially about the gallery sure, because yet again AU soaps cannot make one and the others can. The 'help desk' made me think about making one, but then I thought it could be helpful considering what I mentioned yesterday. A big discussion. I also thought it could combat other issues and set a rule about reacreating articles etc without consensus. WP:SOAPS is outdated and it is too much hassle to try and change a bunch of fansite editors minds. WP:EE started off with just a few active members and grew. Atleast open your mind to the idea, I know it is something you have obviously thought about in the past and formed an opinion on, as have I. I originally thought it could be a good idea until it become too obvious it was just me and you interested in improving them. We could recruit more hand. I don't really see the need for a gallery, you can just link to the one on Commons. I have opened my mind to the idea in the past, now and probably sometime in the future. Well the commons people have been moaning at me latley and removing the H&A cat so more are going missing from the main page... So thats what made me want one with them all grouped together. You know, it probably won't create enough interest anyway. It could be something new, it could work, it is likely to fail - but I've never tried before. I know me and you could make it work hands down, but I'd like more editors. Imagine if someone knew came to help after seeing the project and learning from it. There would would be a guidelines, maybe new editors or IP's may read them - could even start to follow them. I dunno, but I guess I do not know because I haven't tried yet. Atleast if it failed, we could say it didn't work. A lot of discussion is scattered a lot - we have like a good idea of how these things should be set out - but it isn't a consensus based one. We could get that there. I was going to say that they usually list list the issue number on the contents page. They described him quite a lot. I think I'll use that information for reception and maybe something on Quin. I've been researching archives. IPC Media sell back issues of Soaplife, TVTimes and WoT. I found those links using Trove - [42] - They have every AU newspaper until 1982 (grr...) and list journals and archived websites. Two pay ones are the Irish Archive [43] Wich have hundreds of potential sources and the pressonline [44] - I'll certainly consider buying a day pass when I get a job again. They have some pretty great development information too don't they. Like the stuff Dan Ewing said about Brodie could be used in his list entry and Colleen got a good run down. Some of it has already been said in interview, but there are quite a few points like what Ryan and Eve said about Toadie's job. So we could use them in development sections right? There was an extra reception already at the talk page, I remembered there was one link in the free library - but it is so thin on opinion. Apart from that nothing. I think the only hope really is TV Weeks and Inside Soap and Jaci Stephen - that is assuming they did talk about her.
